Shy Kedmi (1985) is a composer of Israeli music and a classical pianist, who has released two albums: Shy Kedmi (2015); Trio Improvisations (2021). He is especially enamored of Scandinavian music and aesthetics, artists such as Björk and Sigur Rós being particularly strong influences. He obtained his BFA in Classical Piano from The City College of New York, where he specialized in 19th-21st century music. His work has been acknowledged with the ASCAP-Chappell/City College Gershwin Award for Classical Composition presented by his teacher, the renowned composer David Del Tredici. Shy’s music often merges modern Scandinavian aesthetics and the French impressionist compositional approach. This combination sets the tone for all his creative work: composition, piano performance, and arranging.

Shy Kedmi is a NY-based pianist and composer. Influenced by both Israeli and Scandinavian music, as well as Impressionism and French aesthetics, he writes music in both the experimental and classical genres.
Recorded on 7/24/2018 at Shapeshifter Lab in Brooklyn, NY, this was the first attempt by Shy Kedmi (Piano), Glenn Grossman (Drums) and David Meer (Contrabass) at Free Improvisation, despite being longtime collaborators.
This was intended to be a performance, that ended up being very poorly attended, and the question arose of whether this should be recorded or not. Given that this was the first time the trio was doing anything of the sort, this could have been a hit or miss - but Kedmi decided to have it recorded last minute.
Right before the performance, Kedmi mentioned to Grossman and Meer what he'll be trying to do: think of an idiom and play to it, without letting them know what it is, and asked them to react. The only other stipulation was to allow an improvisation to end rather than be continuous.
This Trio's chemistry is showcased in this recording for the first time with its profound sensitivity, musicality, synergy, listening and communication that have always characterized it.
