August 2011 REM GENRE Indie ----------------------- [CUETools log; Date: 01.06.2024 17:44:19; Version: 2.2.4] Lorraine’s recent EP release “Haunt me” has been attracting some very well deserved attention, with Lorraine and her band being selected to perform live on BBC introducing Radio 1. This award winning show for best new platform to discover music has brought to light such acts as Florence and The Machine, Biffy Clyro and The Drums.
An invitation to play on the Celtic Connections newcomer stage at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall has also highlighted the exceptional songwriting talents of Lorraine McCauley. A warm and engaging performer Lorraine has been invited to play at some of the most beautiful locations in Scotland namely, Edinburgh Castle and Rosslyn Chapel featured in Dan Browns “Da Vinci Code” novel. Since moving to Scotland in 2007, Lorraine began working with a fantastic trio of musicians and formed her band, The Borderlands, who are Jonee Duggan on accordion, Nick Jenkins on viola and mandolin and Billy Hamilton on cello & glockenspiel. As bands go, they are of the most subtle and intuitive kind and shine for the sensitive and elegant arrangements which they weave around Lorraine’s melodies and lyrics. “Haunt me” the debut EP from Lorraine and The Borderlands has received glowing reviews with Coda Music, the Contempory Folk Specialists commenting ““Haunt Me” swirls its magic in the manner of the finest folk music. That subtlety – for want of a better word – gives these four songs a timeless quality. They don’t really belong in today or yesterday but they still seem relevant. No small feat, I’d say” 2010 has seen Lorraine and The Borderlands playing gigs across Scotland, England and Ireland and performing at music festivals - sharing the line up with Jesca Hoop, King Creosote and Lunasa. With a UK & Ireland tour in the pipelines and an anticipated debut album on the way, 2011 is shaping up to be a very promising year for Lorraine McCauley & The Borderlands.
