![]() ![]() But profession and further education did not allow him to get in touch with the synths again until 1989. Initially only for his own archiving on DAT tape and audio cassettes, his music found its way into the practice of a non-medical practitioner. The great demand of his patients prompted him to commission a small edition of audio cassettes. Here contacts to musicians and record labels were established. And so on June 21, 1997 the first work "Let there be light" was published. On November 18, 1998 Rainer Klein gave his debut concert in Essen-Steele. He was able to gain further stage experience with Bernd Braun, also known under his stage name Arcanum, at the concerts "Klang-Raum-Wort" and various performances with the musicians Mario Schönwälder, Detlef Keller and Bas Broekhuis. Motivated and spurred on by 2nd place in the competition "Literature and Electronic Music" with the title "Symbioses" in 1998, he worked on the next album "Evolution", which was released in 2000 by the English record label Neu Harmony. Under the same label the CD's "Creator" and "Faces of the night" were released afterwards. With the release of new music Rainer Klein consciously takes his time and tries to critically evaluate his compositions himself. The album "Out of Eden" was thus created over several years. Here the listener notices a stylistic advancement whereby the musical identity of Otarion always remains. He continued this with many high class albums until today.- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Стиль: Berlin School Год издания: 1997 Тип издания: CD, Album Издатель (лейбл): Manikin Records Каталожный номер: MRCD 7025 Тип рипа: image+.cue Продолжительность: 01:03:19 Треклист: 01. es werde licht ...... 04:15 02. der himmel ...... 07:05 03. die meere ...... 04:53 04. die pflanzen ...... 04:23 05. der kosmos ...... 06:43 06. die planeten ...... 08:12 07. die tiere ...... 09:16 08. der mensch ...... 08:41 09. die vollendung ...... 09:42 Exact Audio Copy V1.0 beta 3 from 29. I have to say that the other albums are not inferior to "Creator" in terms of quality. Otarion's debut album was released in 1997 on Mario Schönwalder's Manikin Records label, so it's also an interesting address for electronics lovers. Compared to his other releases, this is probably the quietest album. However, this is by no means to be equated with boredom. The theme of this album is "The creation, creation and emergence of all being". Back then, "Schwingungen" by Winfried Trenkler was a compulsory radio program for electronics fans. At some point, this show was finally taken out of the program. Although this continued in a different form, I had missed the connection at the time and did not pursue this further. The annual Schwingen elections were apparently also held after the end of radio. In the 1996 edition, Otarion came second in the election for Newcomer of the Year, a top result for the winner. Which also finds a good introduction to this album, because the opening title track offers the finest electronic sounds. Broad synthesizer surfaces, a few small mellotron-like inserts - that's a good start right away. Already on his debut, Otarion puts a lot of value on melody and harmonious sound worlds, hectic sequences and avant-garde sound collages are not his thing. Rather, atmospheric parts and piano or synthesizer melodies form a fine symbiosis and make the album a pleasant listening journey. Quiet - yes, pure relaxation New Age music - no. A special feature can be discovered at the end, because on the almost 10-minute final track "Die Vollendesung" Rainer Klein gets support from a guest musician, namely Detlev Wabner, who brings in a few excellent electric guitar parts. It would have been nice if there had been a little more of that. There are no techno-like rhythms to be found on "es wird licht" at all, instead the listener is enveloped in a wide, symphonic world of sound. For me, a prime example of how beautiful electronic music can be is the title "Die Tier" with its wonderful arrangements. A great album that is now very hard to come by.

Otarion continues on the path taken on the debut, but there are slight shifts in terms of sound design on "Evolution". Here it can be a bit more experimental as well as livelier. Klein refines his arrangements here, again with great attention to detail. The motto of this album is (quote from the booklet): "Evolution is a journey, it starts from out of nothing with the very first breath of eternity and it ends up far beyond imagination". The atmospheric opener "Twilight" offers a fine introduction to this all-round successful album. Which title stands out from "Evolution" for me as a Prog fan is clear: the 12-minute "Fusions", which leaves an impression with partly powerful arrangements (e.g. church organ sound or "Shine on crazy diamond"-like broad synth pads). Great number. But also the remaining titles offer a nice mixture of quiet, symphonic and melodic as well as somewhat more experimental numbers. Here Rainer Klein has already found his typical Otarion sound and it comes as no surprise to me that he was able to make a name for himself in the electronic scene and end up on the British label Neu Harmony. By the way, the very nice cover design of Driftin' Thoughts matches the music.

His extremely imaginative and tasteful compositions were the reason to take a closer look at this musician, which ultimately resulted in the interview in this issue. As a suitable example from his oeuvre, I have picked the album "Creator" as a representative, which will be described in more detail at this point. The following motto is quoted in the inlet: "Music is the language of our world, it speaks in different colors but always reflects our feelings". Of course, it is always in the eye (or better: ear) of the viewer to what extent the music that is being consumed reaches him/her. For my part, I can say that as a fan of the symphonic-prog genre, who also likes to deal with electronic music, I was immediately gripped by this work. Presumably, because in this kind of electronic music exactly those elements are integrated that directly appealed to the symphonic prog fan in me. These symphonic components, this orientation, sometimes ending in bombastic arrangements. The whole thing in the basic structure of electronic music, using the usual technical basic equipment of the EM scene, without simply copying all possible references such as TD, Vangelis or Jarre to a large extent, but finding his own interpretation of electronic music - all that seems to the Siegener musician to be successful. The total of nine compositions on "Creator" are varied and have an emotional depth that is definitely able to reach me. Exactly what is addressed in the guiding principle mentioned above. It's not about constantly repeating sequences and broad atmospheric parts without recognition value, but about compositions in which synthetic melody lines are in the foreground, which are embedded in atmospheric keyboard surfaces and always know how to fascinate me. With great attention to detail, electronic numbers were created here that never get boring, because you can always discover new little details. A wonderful album that Rainer Klein alias Otarion has delivered here, which I would like to recommend to fans of symphonic electronic music. Merely a few almost techno-like rhythm underlays cloud the listening pleasure a bit, but that takes up so little space that you can confidently ignore it. It all adds up to a whopping 13 on my electronics scale.

Access to this album seemed a bit more difficult in this case. This time some tracks are a bit more rhythmic and the earlier symphonic euphony approach shifts a bit towards a more sombre direction. This time the album is based on a sci-fi concept, and that also corresponds to the listening impression I get after the first listen. So it's a plus point that the artist has succeeded in further developing his style and not just quoting himself. Now that may mean that a fan of "Let There Be Light" might be disappointed by "Faces of the Night", for example. I have to say that I can live with both orientations quite well. On the current work, for example, I really like some of the dark passages that almost come across as goblin-like. The arrangements with horn-like sounds also make the album interesting. As I said, a bit away from the beautiful sound towards occasionally a bit menacing soundscapes. A new way, an interesting, by no means unexciting thing. It's also somehow no coincidence that my favorite track on this album is entitled "Nightmare", a soundtrack-like piece of music that reminds me of Goblin's "Suspiria". Only a few seemingly simple rhythmic arrangements can also be heard here, but - as with the other albums - I find that irrelevant.

The symbiosis of nature - and classical instrumentation with the EM take the listener for 71 minutes in exciting head cinema. ----------------------- foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 The Siegerland Rainer Klein alias Otarion has already been presented in detail in this magazine. This happened in issue number 73, which is now almost 3 years ago. And even then it wasn't on the occasion of a current album, but more of a retrospective. Because his last album was from 2004. There was a longer break without any signs of life, but now he's back with a current album. And very active again, because another long player is already in the can and a live performance is also planned for this year. In the meantime, Otarion has ended up on MellowJet Records, Bernd Scholl's label, which has already made a name for itself with many excellent electronic releases. And "Out of Eden" also fits well into the overall picture. On eleven titles, Klein presents melodic electronic music that is presented well to the point. Only in the title track the atmospheric part is laid out a bit broader, so you end up with a playing time of 11 minutes. Otherwise the songs are almost short and sweet for electronic standards. Everything was recorded single-handedly on various synthesizers. Especially in the second half, elements that he has already used on earlier albums come into play again. So there are occasional passages that show a slight medieval influence and are finely implemented in the electronic landscape. A dash of romance is also integrated again. And there are also slightly progressive echoes, for example in "Seduction", which shows very slight Pink Floyd influences. Melody-emphasized electronic music, which is categorized as "File under: Soundtrack" in the booklet (in which, by the way, the printed seasons were mixed up incorrectly) and which also shines through ingenuity. I'm already looking forward to the new album, but until then I can enjoy "Out of Eden" because there's a lot to discover.

For me, staying true to your own style means: Variety paired with goosebumps.” - Rainer Klein, Mai 2015 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 Rainer Klein from Siegen took on the name Otarion as a solo artist and released his first album “Es Werde Licht” in 1997 on Manikin Records. From 2000, three more high-quality EM albums followed every two years, which were released on the renowned Neu Harmony Label. After that it was quiet for a long time about the Siegen electronic musician. In 2013 a kind of comeback album was released, this time on Mellow Jet Records, a label owned by Eifel musician Bernd “Moonbooter” Scholl, which is extremely popular for electronics fans. This marks the beginning of a very creative phase for Klein – he has now produced his third album within a relatively short period of time. Also now recorded again completely alone.
On "Monument" the diversity of the offered varieties in the field of electronic music is striking. He doesn't limit himself to a specific orientation on the total of ten titles, but is on the move in various subgenres. It may be more or less appealing, but it can hardly be accused of being monotonous. And the courage to try out a few new things has been rewarded in view of the successful overall work. The opener 'Movement' starts out rather cautiously and with slightly dark features, but then picks up speed as the song progresses and sometimes sounds like a soundtrack to a sci-fi film. In the second track, an electric guitar in the style of a steel guitar blends into the synthesizer world. All in all, it is a contemplative, calm number and this basic mood also prevails in the following title. On 'Hidden Place' memories of Vangelis are awakened, the fragile arrangements with glockenspiel sound know how to please. As with the previous album “Genius”, Otarion also likes to play with human voices. Towards the middle of the album he treads other paths, the music becomes more rhythmic and has similarities to the sound of Schiller or Blank&Jones. Then it goes back into symphonic realms, especially in the almost 15-minute title song, the highlight of the album, he brings everything up again, including the guitar. This is where the Prog fan is most likely to be served, because certain Prog tendencies can occasionally be heard. This becomes particularly clear in the following 'Lost Past', a very nice number that has clear reminiscences of Pink Floyd's 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' intro. Otarion's music is very melodic, atmospherically dense and sometimes quite powerful in some symphonic sound structures, just "monumental". The Berlin school is represented as well as excursions into rhythmic, modern areas, which show another facet of the artist, about whose instruments one can find excellent information on his homepage. Synth freaks might like to get smart here. On the EM scale, that's a loose 11 points - with a tendency towards 12. betreutesproggen.de ![]() Стиль: Berlin School, Ambient, Modern Classical, Progrock Год издания: May 6, 2016 Тип издания: WEB, Album Издатель (лейбл): Mellowjet Records Каталожный номер: cdr-ot1601 Продолжительность: 01:08:15 Треклист: 01. look up Your eyes ...... 07:15 02. follow the thread ...... 05:45 03. the constellation ...... 10:21 04. reverberation ...... 07:43 5. break out ...... 07:14 06. flames ...... 10:41 07. inspired ...... 12:06 08. the mysterious ...... 07:06 What Otarion had already hinted at with his last three albums is now being consistently thought through to the end on his latest work "Constellations and the red Thread". So his typical electronic sound with the famously distinctive natural swabs is more and more carried by rock elements. Thus the album changes from song to song. Nevertheless you always know where you are and which disc is rotating. Spacerock paired with a hint of disco sounds unusual, but works wonderfully. Otarion uses certain themes, which return skilfully and hold the whole concept album together. Spherical women's choirs, snotty electric guitar, staccato like sequences, wild organ solos and an ever wider and warmer sound make "Constellations and the red Thread" an epochal masterpiece, which despite its rocky elements shows an unequivocal electronic origin. ----------------------- foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 Behind Otarion is the Siegen electronic musician Rainer Klein, who was already mentioned here with the previous album "Monument". In recent years, since releasing his albums on Bernd Scholl's (aka Moonbooter) label Mellowjet Records, he's upped the ante in terms of output. Not only that can be observed, but also an increasingly clear affinity between the musician and the prog area. Although the present album is still a work from the electronic music genre, more and more traces of Prog are recognizable. For example, Klein unpacked his guitar and used it comparatively often on “Constellations”, which sometimes gave the whole thing a rocky touch. This fits together very well in connection with his partly orchestral keyboard mountains.
In addition to prog approaches and the genre-typical references to the Berlin School, modern uptempo numbers like 'Break Out' are represented, which don't necessarily want to fit into the booty scheme of the common prog fan. At least that's how it seems at first, but what sounds like danceable Schiller-like music at first actually enters Prog realms towards the end, when electric guitar and keyboard instruments provide a corresponding sound pattern. The eight songs with playing times between six and twelve minutes are well to the point and varied - not least through multi-layered keyboard playing and the addition of the electric guitar, which now plays an important role in the sound spectrum. For example, Matthias Quitadamo makes a guest appearance with his electric guitar on 'Flames'. The interplay of keys and strings is excellent here. The keyboard playing has become even more varied, piano and organ sounds are also added here, at the end of the song it even gets rocky with a fine organ interlude. This type of composition will probably be what Rainer Klein means in the booklet when he wishes the listener a lot of fun with his new music - also new in the sense of further developing his sound. As on the predecessors, the occasional inclusion of female voices is one of the characteristics of his music. The electronic music offered here occasionally has soundtrack character, the musician works less with long, drawn-out, purely atmospheric excursions (exception: the very quiet, fine closing track 'The Mysterious') and more with symphonic key arrangements, which sometimes create a quite voluminous sound. In addition to almost radio-ready excursions, it also shows clear prog influences. Church organ sounds appear on 'Inspired', which in the arrangement evoke memories of the music of Anna von Hausswolff. All in all, the electronics scale is pleasingly high. betreutesproggen.de ![]() 01. The music is a mixture of many different genres. These not only alternate within the individual songs of the album, but also within the songs themselves. Some songs start as a dreamlike sound collage and end in rhythmic prog rock. Other songs start with natural instruments and turn into purely electronic pieces. It's unpredictable what comes next. This makes "Decide" extremely exciting and varied at the same time. Otarion has also succeeded in inserting calm passages, which then serve pure relaxation. Thus "Decide" is all about the last album "Constellation and the red Thread", which is also supported by rocky but also purely electronic parts. Otarion never falls for classical spacer rock. Rather the complete album Otarion carries its own handwriting: Dreamy, poetic, epochal but also fast and jagged. The arrangements are demanding and sometimes chaotic. An album of contrasts. But decide for yourself. ----------------------- foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 Otarion is the name of the electronic musician Rainer Klein, who regularly releases his albums on Bernd Scholl's Mellowjet Records label, alias Moonbooter. Just under a year has passed since the last work "Constellations And The Red Threat". Since the 2013 album "Out Of Eden" he has released his albums in this high number, so his fifth. Four more albums were produced between 1997 and 2004, so the man from Siegen already has a lot to show for it.
As the musician writes in the booklet, the criteria for selecting his pieces are clearly defined. They should be powerful and with feeling, reflect their own personality and create a new listening experience with each new album. This was also the basis for "Decide", on which Klein decided against this background for these nine titles - and then also the reference to the album title. The melody factor always plays a major role in Otarion's music, long, purely atmospheric compositions are obviously not his thing. And so the compositions presented here also know how to convince with beautiful melody lines. Sometimes laid out calmly, then again powerfully and spiritedly. The fact that Klein has a certain soft spot for progressive rock is also occasionally evident. For example in the longest track of the album, the twelve-minute 'Unpublished', which isn't that anymore. Here he sometimes picks up the guitar, uses a lot of e-piano, and towards the end a pinch of mellotron sounds and organ. A fine, airy number that is a lot of fun. Prog approaches can also be heard in the following 'Seven Chapters'. 'Decisived' is again far away from Prog, here it's fast with underlying beats, which also applies to the concluding, albeit somewhat more moderate 'Alternate'. 'Contemplate' is a title that illustrates well what kind of electronic music Rainer Klein has to offer, because there are scattered Prog elements here, such as the organ playing, which should have come into its own. But elements of the Berlin School are also included. All in all a brisk, entertaining electronic album with prog tendencies. Wonderful melodies, sometimes in Progrock, sometimes in electronic style, alternate inaudibly. This music touches, seduces and tears you along. Because this music comes from the heart. Rainer Klein shares a part of himself with "Under Surface". What has already been inimitably hinted at in his last albums is now being perfected on "Under Surface": a symbiosis of dream, reality and something in between. I'm really excited and proud to release this album. "Under Surface" is just great. - Bernd Scholl foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 In recent years, the Siegen electronic musician Rainer Klein has released new albums every year with great regularity, including the current six in a row on Bernd Scholl's label MellowJet Records. He always acted at a high level in his genre and was therefore presented several times "on these pages". When albums are mass-produced in this way, there is of course the risk of a certain degree of wear and tear. Especially when they are stylistically very similar.
It remains to be seen whether Klein had this in the back of his mind or whether he simply wanted something new. In any case, he is obviously breaking new ground on “Under Surface”, which the artist explains in the booklet. Now a significant portion of post-rock is added, and in a way that even the reviewer who is more averse to post-rock knows how to please. Otarion claims that this element has brought even more emotionality into his music, and that can definitely be confirmed at this point. It's still primarily an EM album, otherwise it probably wouldn't have ended up on the label specializing in electronic music. The guitar had already found its way into Klein's compositions on the previous albums, and a development towards progressive rock became apparent. Now a portion of post-rock is added. A title like 'Refractions' is a prime example of Otarion's approach to stylistic correction on "Under Surface". Even the intro draws attention, a wonderful, calm piano piece, embedded in an intense atmosphere, opens an extremely emotional, varied progressive-post-rock-electronic-ambient album, with which Otarion sets a bold exclamation mark! Beautiful choral arrangements are just as much a part of the Otarion sound as elements from the Berlin School, which, however, have to take a back seat here. And Pink Floyd can also be heard as a source of inspiration again. 'Under Surface' definitely represents a certain reorientation - and a thoroughly successful one at that. From time to time You listen to that special one, that touches instantly Your heart. The new album "Extensive" from Otarion is such an album. It is full of emotions in different ways. Its euphoric, melancholic, dramatic and in between positivly relaxing. Any note, any song and any instrument is perfectly arranged. All is combined to one piece. Natural instruments dominate, in between there are maintaining hints from electronic genres plus some sacral elements. Dark and mysterious soundscapes hold everything together. "Extensive" is 100% instrumental. Without one word it tells an exciting story of emotions. Of life. Of craving. The music is deliverd in a bombstic and high dynamic sound. "Extensive" is a perfect soundtrack for mind and soul. - Bernd Scholl foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 Otarion alias Rainer Klein is now one of the regular guests on this site. He produces new albums with reliable regularity, the last one ("Under Surface") was presented here about a year ago. Beautiful regularity sounds like a high risk of wear and tear and the danger of sounding the same over and over again. But the musician from Siegen knows how to minimize this, because he is constantly developing his music. What was pure electronic music in the early days has now acquired additional facets. This is shown, among other things, by the fact that he no longer only relies on various synthesizers, but increasingly also takes up the guitar.
Progressive rock is also one of the Siegen's sources of inspiration, which has been evident in some guitar parts reminiscent of Pink Floyd in recent years, for example. At the latest with the previous album, a good portion of post-rock was added, which is an important factor on the current album. A song like 'Unpredictable' is a prime example of Klein's work on this album. And it's actually quite unpredictable what he'll do next. Here he impresses with an extremely intense, atmospheric song in which - as on other numbers - organ sounds play an important role. This alternates between dark, mysterious and scary. The 'Crucial Now' that follows is another fine example of his approach to creating intense moods through the use of the organ. The album is packed with titles with emotional depth, so that even the playing time of 75 minutes, which is actually too long, is so filled that there is no boredom. A great development that the artist has taken. The expectations for future works are therefore very high. betreutesproggen.de ![]() 01. Simply enjoy - Rainer “Otarion” Klein foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 The introduction to this album can be written like in the other previous reviews, because Otarion is still the synonym of the Siegen musician Rainer Klein, who has not let up in his activities and has brought us a new album this year too, although even another is also in the pipeline. The reviews so far have been consistently positive and there is no reason this time will not be the case. He creates his own sound and has also developed stylistically. This applies in particular to "Prayer from the Deep", because here he has consistently continued on the path already taken by the predecessor. And it's not for nothing that you won't find the term Electronic Music or Ambient or Berlin School on the back cover this time, because it says: File under Progressive Rock. The term Post Rock should certainly also be used in this context.
What originally started with keyboard-heavy electronic albums has now largely discovered the guitar as a sound-defining element. It is also striking that the winner often begins quietly and lets the music swell steadily, finally culminating in a loud finale. The album contains a total of ten tracks, most in the seven to nine minute range. The nine-minute opener 'Son of Amittai' is a prime example of the current Otarion sound, which starts very slowly and steadily increases. A very upbeat, percussive number, 'The Residence of Nimrod' was placed in the middle of the album. The fine title track also starts off rather calmly, is initially determined by keys, and then transitions into a fast-paced Tangerine Dream-like phase before it ends melancholically again. Otarion, who once again recorded everything on his own, did a great job with these mood changes. And so the album finally ends with the rather short 'Salvation From The Lord', very atmospheric with almost sublime sounding keyboard sounds. This instrumental album is based on the story of the prophet Jonah, a short story from the Bible. As already indicated above, his fortunes are not told to the end here, because the story will be continued on the next album entitled "No Time Was Lost". We are curious. betreutesproggen.de ![]() 01. Many thanks to Marcus Hildebrandt for creating the cover images and to Bernd Scholl for the artwork and audio mastering. Simply enjoy - Rainer “Otarion” Klein foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 Rainer Klein, who is known as Otarion in the EM scene – and now maybe also in the circle of some Post Rock fans – really didn't lose much time when it comes to the production of a new album. The predecessor ”Prayer From The Deep” is only a few months old and already a new work is available. But this doesn't come as a complete surprise, because the artist had already announced this and so it can be seen as a kind of double pack. The very similar color design already suggests that this somehow belongs together, and this is also confirmed by the given form of the music, because the Siegen multi-instrumentalist consistently continues on his way. And that suspicion becomes a certainty when you research the relevant pages, because the two albums refer to the Bible, the story of Jonah to be more precise. He has experienced certain parallels in his life and implements this musically in these two works.
This is also a pure solo album, because the protagonist once again recorded everything completely on his own. You don't need a huge guest list, no, the man from Siegen implements all his ideas, and there are quite a few of them, himself. Ten titles are spread over 70 minutes - mostly medium-length, only the 13-minute 'Call To Repentance' exceeds the 10-minute mark. Already the six-minute opener 'The Shore of Japho' spreads a very own atmosphere, almost sacral at times, and the following tracks don't drop at all either. Slow start and increasing in the interplay of guitar and keyboard instruments, that is a typical element in the Siegener's music. The background mentioned above may be a major reason why both albums have a pronounced emotional depth and can captivate the listener. At the risk of repeating himself, the writer is an outspoken Prog fan who, due to his early immersion in the EM scene, also feels at home in this genre. And so it came about that contact with Otarion was there very early on, since his pure EM albums from his early days, which were still released by AD Music, were very appealing and the further career of the artist was therefore followed closely . There was then a kind of transitional period where the guitar became a bit more than just a splash of color and brought in certain Floyd elements. 2018's Under The Surface could be seen as a turning point as guitar comes into play as a key feature and he also moves towards post rock from now on. Not necessarily the favorite musical orientation of the writer, but if it is done so well and sensitively, this step is also convincing. And so from this time on, everything that followed could also be called Otarion 2.0, if you will. "No Time Was Lost" is once again a very intense, atmospherically dense work that knows how to fascinate. A steady flow of emotional music to dive into. betreutesproggen.de ![]() 01. His incredible path, pure grace of love for people I implemented this in my music in 12 compositions. Feel the emotions and enjoy listening to my music. - Rainer “Otarion” Klein. foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 In the recent past, fans of Otarion, alias Rainer Klein from Siegen, have been truly spoiled, as album after album followed in yearly intervals. The current release, "Logos," took a little longer, so the keen listener had to make do without an Otarion release in 2022. But the break really wasn't that long, which shows how diligent the musician has been in recent years. And his consistently high level of work is also evident in his current work, which is once again based on biblical themes. The musician's development has already been described on these pages. After the typical electronic albums of the past, he has increasingly developed towards progressive rock and post-rock, which is also evident in the fact that, in contrast to his early days, the guitar now takes up a much larger space. What were already the strengths of the last albums also come to the fore on "Logos," namely the very intense atmospheric images created by his quite emotional music. Twelve purely instrumental tracks add up to a playing time of well over 70 minutes. Some pieces are decidedly calm and thoughtful, with no trace of hectic activity anywhere. The interplay of keyboards and guitar works just as well in the quiet passages as in the phases where it literally erupts, such as the nine-minute 'Exaltation on the Cross'. 'The Spirit of the Lord is Upon Me' and the immediately following 'The Transfiguration' are good examples of the subtle, thoughtful moments that impress with their intense atmosphere. Rainer Klein has found his very own style, which clearly distinguishes him from many releases on electronic labels such as MellowJet Records, Spheric Music, Synth Music Direct, and the like. And that's precisely why it's such an excellent idea by MellowJet boss Bernd Scholl to give his label a certain breadth. As with Spheric Music, the back cover bears a label, which in this case reads: "file under Progressive Rock." This is a kind of instrumental progressive rock that occasionally incorporates post-rock elements and, of course, electronic music, but not in the form of Berlin School compositions, noise, or dark ambient. Rather, it's a keyboard-heavy accompaniment that perfectly matches the mood, with the electric guitar repeatedly providing a subtle counterpoint, yet everything harmonizes beautifully.
Another emotionally charged album from Otarion, with which he certainly won't disappoint his fans; on the contrary, he might even attract new listeners. The album certainly deserves it. betreutesproggen.de ![]() Стиль: Berlin School, Modern Classical, Symphonic Rock, Progrock Год издания: May 2, 2025 Тип издания: WEB, Album, 24bit Издатель (лейбл): Groove Unlimited Каталожный номер: GR-384 Продолжительность: 01:16:21 Треклист: 01. jeremiah’s warning ...... 07:29 02. daniel’s gift ...... 08:18 03. nebuchadnezzar’s dream ...... 07:06 04. the statue ...... 10:33 05. the hand on the wall ...... 05:48 06. belshazzar’s fall ...... 05:44 07. visions of daniel ...... 10:39 08. cyrus calls ...... 06:49 09. time of silence ...... 05:56 10. the savior is here ...... 07:54 king nebuchadnezzar was the renowned second king of the neo-babylonian empire. he is a historical figure who ruled from 605-562 bce but also appears in stories in the bible. the eldest son of nabopolassar, nebuchadnezzar led the babylonian army to several important victories while also restoring the greatness of the city of babylon. according to the bible, while nebuchadnezzar was a pagan, he came to understand and accept the power of the god of the israelites through daniel. but in his power, nebuchadnezzar believed that he should be worshipped like a god. for this hubris, god humbled him by making him live as an animal for seven years, causing him to become a king of men and beasts before restoring him to his former position.
