FRANK DORITTKE (F.D.Project)
![]() ![]() Источник (релизер): Bandcamp, QoBuz, RuTracker, 2olega.ru, обмен-German musician Frank Dorittke, aka F.D. Project, is originally a guitarist from the Dinslaken-based band Imagine. He got interested in electronic music around 1991, and became influenced by the music of Tangerine Dream (“Stratosfear”) and Jean Michel Jarre. Frank couldn’t resist stepping into the deep, and started composing his own electronic music, which would end up as his debut album “Electronic Dreams”. To his own astonishment, F.D.Project was chosen "Best Newcomer" at Schallwende and the German Schwingungen Wahl 2003, and in the following years he won other prices on that same occasion. In 2004 he made “Blue Vision” on which some fine electric guitar would compliment his electronic music. That same year, he did his first live concerts, and he won the third place as “Best Electronic Musician” at Schallwende while “Blue Vision” was chosen second “Best” cd at the same occasion. In the following years, more successful cd and dvd releases would follow. Frank also released a free downloadable album through Pharmacom Records under the moniker “Mare Tranquillitatis“. This double album pays a very nice tribute to the old Berlin-School, offering over two hours of groovy, rhythmic and quite cinematic music. The expertly played electric guitar plays an important part here, reminding of the part of Tangerine Dreams’ "Encore" and some vintage work from Pink Floyd. The versatile and accessible music of F.D. Project is not that simply to depict as it’s influences range from Tangerine Dream to Mike Oldfield, at other occasions keenly blending elements from the Berlin School and guitar riffs. At times it can be melodic and up-tempo, then switching to captivating atmospheric textures and soundscapes, but in live-settings one can count on it some great guitar playing will show up.- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Стиль: Berlin School Год издания: October 1, 2003 Тип издания: CD, Album Издатель (лейбл): Not On Label (Frank Dorittke Self-released) Каталожный номер: none Тип рипа: tracks (no log, .cue) Продолжительность: 01:08:33 Треклист: 01. A soft album where the guitars of FD Project are very silent except for Acoustic Nature, letting all the room to synths with vaporous mists which shape beautiful dreamlike structures on lighter than dynamic rhythms.
Intro / Endless Dream begins this 1st work of Dorittke with a slow and somber procession to prismatic sparkles from where escapes a metallic droplet in a sinister cosmic nothingness. A wind roars among the decorative arcs of a monastery bell tower, activating the movement of those which resound around delicate chords to draw a sober rhythmic to nuanced hesitations. Intro / Endless Dream is the start of an album filled with very accessible musical pieces which guzzle between ears without too many difficulties. An album of light rhythms which modulate soft cadences on of beautiful ethereal strata which furrow and waltz on moderated rhythms, as Jarre and Yanni, as well as on the Celtic approaches of Enya. There are small jewels; New Day, The Last Sunset, Wonderful Morning and Land Of Magic who soak in a soft musical atmosphere. Galaxy 2002 is the only title that has an approach systematically electronic where a synth throws its solos among beautiful slowly keen sequences and a keyboard with a symphonic rock approach. As 1st opus, Electronic Dreams is not naughty. Its a beautiful album filled with tracks as romantic as dreamlike of which slow and waltzing synthesized strata stake hardly away from an approach more into New Age than progressive and electronic. The kind of album which listens the eyes and head full of love! 2010. While the keyboardist and guitarist limited himself to synths on his debut, the cover of the new CD already shows that he's now making more use of the guitar, and this is clearly beneficial to his music.
We'll start with the very electronic "Harmonie In Space," because Frank offers some beautiful synth chords in this piece that first launch you into orbit and then slowly float you around our planet. After a good two and a half minutes, the electric guitar sounds for the first time, giving this track a rockier and more varied feel. This track is really fun right from the start. We move on to "Dreamless World," although I have to say that I also find this track – despite its name – simply dreamy. Frank has composed a very beautiful, slow-moving melody here, which transitions into another great part after a good minute and a half. Great song. Frank seems to be a fan of sequels, because track number three on the current CD, titled "Galaxy 2003 ... The Next Generation," is a sequel to the piece "Galaxy 2002," which he released on his debut. He then continues this in the sixth track, titled "Galaxy 2004 ... The Long Way." All of these pieces have virtually the same basic rhythm and synth loops, which Frank then varies and plays different melodic lines. While "Galaxy 2003 ..." is 6 minutes long, Frank even extended the 2004 version to over 15 minutes. I like this long version best because it contains different parts in which different melodic lines appear, and Frank also picks up the guitar again. "Memorys" begins like "Tubular Bells" and, with its very rock-inspired guitar playing, offers a foray into the works of Mike Oldfield. I get the impression that Frank is paying homage to one of his musical idols with this track (see also the name). With "Sealife - Whale And Dolphin," the journey now takes us into the vastness of the oceans. The sound of waves and a dreamy melody, featuring acoustic guitar sounds alongside synth loops, dominate this piece for much of the track. After a good five minutes, the track culminates in a rock section, as Frank unpacks his electric guitar again. There's something for all prog and krautrock fans. "Two Times In One" also offers wonderful sequencer loops, to which Frank once again plucks the strings in a very rock-inspired way. A slight hint of the Alan Parsons Project wafts through the air here. "Endless Dream Part Two" is another sequel to a track from his debut CD. In this new part, he has retained certain melodic structures from the first. However, the new version, played at a faster pace, seems much more relaxed and cheerful than the somewhat more sedate sounding first part. Finally, the album's title track, "Blue Visions," comes to a close. This very romantic song begins with acoustic and electric guitar. The title is a fitting closer, leaving you with the knowledge that the disc will be spinning in the CD player many more times. The second album is always the hardest, as is well known, but Frank has managed to top its predecessor. The individual pieces sound even better structured and feature dreamy melodies. In addition, the guitar simply enriches the sound. Although Frank hasn't created a concept album, as he himself writes in the booklet, I find the CD to be very coherent and seamless. I recommend it wholeheartedly to all lovers of electronic music. Fans of symphonic rock and progressive rock should also take a look and listen to the CD; they'll discover a lot for themselves. What you will hear on this CD is stunning guitar work and rhythmic sequence work with incredible dynamic added.
It can best be described as cross between progressive rock & basic electronic music with a twist. But if we mix those elements and put some of the most gorgeous guitar work in the mix we will find that this CD (according to me the best one) is such an emotionally driven masterpiece, and not a day pass me by without having heard something from this extremely nice disc. I have all the F.D.Project CD’s in my collection, and this is by far the best out of them all, and I have heard them all several times. And judging by my review it can tell that I’m quite into instrumental guitar based music, but even so, this is something that has everything for both lovers of ‘basic’ New Age electronic music and experimental electronic. But I would still say that this release is more for the fanbase of instrumental guitar driven music such as ‘Maxxess‘. Go check it out! Highly Recommended!! 2009. Project opus with a nebulous short intro strewn with static chords on melodious flutters. A light sequencer draws a curve with a soft galloping dandling which is harmonized on its echo, giving a suave and sensual tempo. The movement evolves under synths with enveloping layers, filled with slightly symphonic pads and languorous solos, whereas the harmonies dominate over few atmospheric complexities.
This introductory part of Timeless is a truly reflection of Frank Dorittke melodious approach. Surfing between structures with varied progressions and limpid tonalities, F.D.Project offers an extremely harmonious music which approaches the universe of Mike Oldfield and Software. Beyond these harmonious approaches, F.D.Project works out a psychedelic approach near Pink Floyd on Echoes and Mind Over Matter for the guitar and synth fusion. Without being completely neither dark, nor hyper progressive, Timeless offers a very interesting structural variety. Titles with progressive structures, like Time Traveller and Another Places, mix well with more conservatives titles as White Clouds, Daylight and Timeless. The hypnotic Berlin School model is also present on tracks like Daily Dream and The Blue Place which are besieged by a guitar with corrosive riffs. Daring, F.D.Project even goes into a very sensual electro blues on Final Improvisation, while paying homage to Mike Oldfield on The Return of O. Much different from conventional EM albums, F.D. Project offers a more progressive music, while remaining close to accessible structures from the last releases of Software and the counting minimalisms rhymes from Mike Oldfield. A beautiful cd for those who are looking for a more musical EM, with a zest of audacity. 2007. A very melodious opus which revolves around beautiful sequences, beautiful synths and a corrosive guitar. The keys in suspensions which, are grafted to a synth with reverberating sonorities in opening of The Journey To Another Place, compare with the approach of Time Traveller. Static, the atmosphere awakes gently on fine arpeggios with floating resonances, which filter a soft melody on synths with more accentuated sound arches. Circulars, the chords crystallize a soft ambiguous waltz which whirls with lightness on a beautiful rotary sequence, whereas the rhythm becomes silkier to accentuate its cadence on a melodious and hooking beat. This composition, where ambiguity and melody cogitate under the same tuning fork, is the essence of F.D. Project.

October 2020 REM GENRE Electronic foobar2000 1.5.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 I like FD Project. His music always flows with a harmony which the premise is a skillful dosage of guitars, as electric than acoustic, and synths whose oscillate between the territories of Berlin School, the new kind as the retro one, with a sweet Oldfieldian influence. On Heavensgate FD Project charm as ever, with a long magnificent epic track which worth itself the purchase of the CD. A true good old Berlin School well sequenced which FD Project throws between our ears and who thrones among a magnificent collection of titles all so harmoniously attractive.
A slow droning shower opens Mandarinentraum (The dream of the Mandarin). The intro is spatial, with its analog sound effects, under a fluty mellotron with a very Mergener-Weisser (Software) flavor. Quietly, Frank Dorittke, the man behind FD Project, immerses us in a sulphurous Berlin School post 70 with a crystal clear tone and a sequence to crystalline keys which turn delicately in a sea of synths to spectral breaths, wave-like and sharp. A hypnotic fantasia which is lulling in a cosmos to starry background filled of shooting streaks in order to fit a delicate rhythmic with a hopping keys sequencer. A bloody great track very well structured Mandarinentraum gets perfumes by Tangerine Dreamian several musical influences with puzzling rhythmic approaches, quite as we hear on Blue Planet. Approaches which destabilize the listener with unexpected rhythms, as we get around the 15th minute. A segment where the tempo is illuminating under good tam-tam percussions and a synth with sharp whistles. Constantly Mandarinentraum evolves on rhythms in constant permutation, but which overlap with subtlety, as rarely can offer a track that length without falling into some atonal sources. A magnificent piece where synths and guitars have a pleasant complicity, especially towards the finale with sequences to stunning inversions. Some very good Berlin School, Mandarinentraum is certainly one of the beautiful track written in 2008. Galaxy 2008 flows languishingly on a wavy mellotroned vocal and a beautiful line of bass. The tempo is pleasant and marries a sensual movement under a thick cloud of loopy guitar solos.A title of a delicious sweetness, quite as November Day and its melancholic melody. Spaceball is for guitar fan. A heavy guitar which grips a cosmic serpentine intro, on good percussion strikes from where are winding good electric six-string solos. A guitar which becomes heavy and incisive, on a pounding pace hypnotically weighty coated with a zest of interstellar sound effects. Shy, Heavensgate (the title track) moves nervously, as a clock which looks for its tick-tock, before taking the shape of a hooking sequenced nursery rhyme. A beautiful intro which engenders a rhythmic more supported with a guitar phase which hangs on ears to be in hiding there, as worm ear. Spectral does not betray its naming with its sinister mood on a hopping bass line. Fine keys hang on to this line, unwinding a melodious spectre which furrows a more robust movement, kissing a funky touch. Heaven Must Be Proud encloses this FD Project 6th opus of with a beautiful melody starring the fine voice of Brandon Michelle which sensualism and virginality are tying marvelously the laments of an electric guitar. Heavensgate got lost in the mazes of EM albums which abound in profusion in 2008. Nevertheless, it is one of the pearls of that year. A magnificent album which should parade among 2008 top ten. 2009. October 2020 REM GENRE Electronic foobar2000 1.5.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 T And Y is FD Project new-born of. An album divided into 2 parts: Today with 6 new tracks and Yesterday with 5 unreleased titles written since 2003. If Heavensgate surrounded us with a very Berlin School aura, this Frank Dorittke‘s last opus leads us into a musical world dominated by the influence that Mike Oldfield had on the German multi-instrumentalist. An album with rhythms organized on beautiful sequences sometimes unpredictable, sometimes minimalism, into languishing layers dominated by an electric guitar sometimes dreamy, sometimes explosive.
And that begins with Stars and Sky who opens as a new Tubular Bells. A dark linear opening tinged with fine scattered keys which wave on hardly perceptible oscillations from where appears an innocent nursery rhyme on a minimalist piano, coupled by the wavy and sensual bass line which ground Mike Oldfield‘s 1st version. Except that around the 5th minute the rhythm changes end for end with the appearance of a violin on wild lively percussions, feeding a furious incursion in an Irish clan soil. A folk dance for gnomes which becomes milder before sinking into an ambient darkness, streaked by lamentations of an electric six strings and a mellotronned voice which extends over a melancholic piano. Languishingly, the movement gets back to life with a heavy guitar which draws the pace under an orchestral choir, before switching towards another stroboscopic rhythmic, depicting the whim and the taste of FD Project for permuting rhythms which puzzle constantly the listener. A beautiful title which paves the way to a multitude tracks to very different structures which respect the diversity of cadences in a dense and well fed sound universe. Planet Earth offers a minimalism intro as Big Ben tick tack keys. An intro which pounds slowly on a jerkier sequencer, but which the fury is held by a mellotronned cloud. The title soaks in a statism to boiling tones with fine crystalline sequences which are beaten by heavy guitar solos. Tinkled keys flicker around the dark line of Polarstern. Vocal add an intriguing dimension to a rhythm which grows as a clock which wants to outstrip its movement in a veiled atmosphere of mellotron layers and with solos of guitars which spin passionately. A title near the Berlin School style quite as Fearless with its loopy sequences which hem in an ambient universe in spite of a feverish sequencer which surrounds a pulsation that wont explode. All the opposite of Remember with his hatched circular rhythm which swirls on an ascending sequence fiddle by heavy solos and by caustic riffs. After the sweet nursery rhyme to chiseled guitars which is Dream with me, we penetrate into the vaults of the first FD Project compositions that privileged the big guitars on fine rotary sequences. Dream in a Dream begin with hesitation. A sweet composition where the premise is a guitar which rolls on a circular movement with of sulphurous solos. A piece near the Oldfieldian soil. Around the World presents a more syncopated structure which spins circles on guitars solos. Waterfall amazes with his foggy intro tinged with argentine keys which cavort on a structure to slow crescendo on a bass sequence to light caper. A bewitching synth wraps the track, accompanying us in dreamland, with illusions and with fantasies. A very beautiful title, forgotten on Frank Dorittke‘s tablets. Early Years has a very Kraftwerk approach with a zest of Neu and Michael Rother. A nervous title on an unbridled rhythm, punctuated with big incisive guitar solos which become muddled in rather shy synth solo. Wishes concludes this retro actual work with a beautiful sequence la Michael Rother which emphasizes an introverted tempo, but with an effective melody. T And Y represent the very parallel visions of FD Project. From yesterday to today Frank Dorittke exploits a musical universe which winds between Berlin School, the teutronic rhythms and the clan gnomish approach of Mike Oldfield. An audacious mixture which flows into sometimes complex, but always harmonious universe, where the guitar is a master key in a sphere filled with interchangeable sequences bubbling synthesized mellotron. 2009. October 2020 REM GENRE Electronic foobar2000 1.5.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 This last FD Project work is of superb minimalism tenderness and this in spite of some jolts with technod flavors. Time to Remember is in the lineage of these albums which scroll in loops and that each listening brings a new beam of musicality. A nice album, with soft passages weakened by a somber nostalgia, where mesmerizing and charming Frank Dorittke‘s dodecaphonic world is in constant evolution and torn between soft melodies with flexible rhythms and curter cadences which touch lightly a kind of zombie techno.
The Dream Goes On… Mandarinentraum is a superb track and the cornerstone of Time to Remember which begins by a suave lamentation as sensual as ethereal falling with a light crash on a delicate note. As if it awakened a cosmic world, this note makes resurfacing synth waves which ripple over a soft sequence in formation which turns with delicacy, such as an oniric nursery rhyme. A hypnotic sequence which turns as a slow musical carousel beneath streaks of a spectral synth. Between the mystic world of Legend, the sensual and lyrical synths of Le Parc and melodies of Underwater Sunlight from Tangerine Dream, The Dream Goes On Mandarinentraum unfolds as an ode to Tangerine Dream, a little bit as on Heavensgate, with this delicate voice of Matzumi of which sensual and melancholic breathes are mixing with synth exhalations. Synths with vocals breathe which are entangling in a perfect symbiosis to laments and ethereal vocalizes sighing in a musical universe with multiple crystalline notes of a nostalgic piano. A poetic softness trapped in minimalist sequential carousels which spin criss-cross and sparkle such as ditties for young imps in a luxurious electronic world with analog flavors la Schulze and Jarre. A very nice track which increases appreciably its crescendo to ends with a guitar la Oldfield which sings its long solos filled with excitability on a beautiful line of piano. Delicate, mesmerizing and melancholic, The Dream Goes On Mandarinentraum is a long melody which goes astray in the analog cosmos and suave lamentations of Matzumi. One of the most beautiful melodious tracks that I heard in 2010 and which is going to please fans of TD, Legend, The Park and Underwater Twilight areas, as well as Mike Oldfield fans. Dualist, Sternennacht begins with a tenebrous synth line which blows a somber sigh with romantic fragrances. Fine piano notes roam in this syncretic cosmos where brief studded breezes sparkle. The synth embraces guitar sounds shape, bringing Sternennacht bends towards a sequence to soft resonances, which is melting to another sequence with more candid jolts. This sequential juxtaposition forms a tempo which increases its pace beneath by filiform synth solos. And Sternennacht falls into rhythms of a heavy space rock with a tempo sustained by good electronic percussions and a guitar of which chiseled solos are merging with more sinuous synth solos, unique to the very mixed musical world of Frank D Project. After an atmospheric intro where synth layers remind those of the melancholic sweetness of Pink Floyd on Wish You Were Here, Evolution shakes its rhythm with a hybrid sequence where bass notes twirl in spiral and hem in cascade with chords closer to glass tones. The tempo is supported by its sequences which hammer a muffled technod movement in a nebulous electronic atmosphere with sinuous synth solos which are criss-crossing in a heavy electronic ambiance which is not without recalling Software in Electronic Universe. Heavy, incisive and striking Le Culte beats the pace on heavy pulsations which act as steady percussions, leading Le Culte in a weighty whirlwind of pulsating rhythms where sulfurous solo of symphonic synths abound in hypnotic zombie pulsations. Le Culte rhythm isnt still completely form that it crosses its only quiet moment where random sequences spin among beautiful layers of a hum and hawing synth, melancholic vocoders, percussions with rattler tones and solos of guitars which scratch this floating atony on a cadence on alert and on a point to explode. And this is whats happening some 2 minutes farther with an infernal rhythmic, structured by heavy hypnotic pulsations and minimalism percussions which hammer a techno rave, ragged by explosives guitar solos to striped dance floors. Time to Remember explains itself Mike Oldfield‘s influences on Frank Dorittke and the worship of this last one for the universe of Tubular Bells. We would believe to hear a remix, so much it is near the reality, of this delicious intro that fascinated the music lovers throughout the world, with a guitar to hatched riffs and a synth to spectral loops which cross this soft minimalism piano / bass fusion. Beautiful, but it doesnt surpass the original although it gives a sudden need to listen to it… which I did! After a nebulous foggy and galactic intro, After the Rain gallops on a nervous line of bass which skips with delicate crystalline arpeggios. Percussions mold a steady pace which pounds beneath cosmic synth streaks. A brief atmospheric insert divides the rhythm, just to let guitar riffs filter and scroll in loops caressing Manuel Gttsching‘s very minimalist universe, beneath suave layers of a synth with cosmic aromas, sculpting thus After the Rain in a very cosmic rock structure. Desire encloses Time to Remember by a beautiful strummed ballad. A soft lullaby with a synth to tribal violin laments that a guitar bites into its deepest furrows with acuteness solos, dividing the musical world of Frank D and the one Oldfield of a delicate musical Ariane’s thread. A divine ballad where shrill daydreams of guitars cross the tears of violin on crystalline sequences with a heavy final where drum and bass bring us back in Mike Oldfield‘s tribal world. October 2020 REM GENRE Electronic foobar2000 1.5.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 It’s with a lot of emotionalism and passion that Frank Dorittke undertakes Water and Earth, a great album where melodies are charmingly moulded by superb sequential movements. Multiple sequences which crisscross under synth layers at once caustic and oniric, as well as a guitar with riffs always so heavy but with solos sometimes violent and sometimes melancholic.
"Under Water" opens with oblong and sinuous waves of a synth to hybrid tones which intertwine, whereas fine crystalline arpeggios hop and dance in a light zigzagging movement. These chords of glasses form a nice sequential movement which undulates of an approach slightly jerky, supported by a bass line by fine throbbing pulsations. This very good sequential spiral increases the tempo with the arrival of percussions that Frank Dorittke manipulates with strength, hammering a hypnotic tempo which follows the ascending arc of its sequences. The rhythm permutes slightly when the electric six-string wakes up to release sulphurous and languishing cosmic solo which chase away sinuous metallic waves and transport "Under Water" towards a warm cosmic rock which dances at the beat of its sequences. "Norway - My Heart is with You" is a real small jewel. Its intro dances with keyboard keys which jump, undulate and intertwine in brief and suave solos of a guitar which dreams beyond a fine quixotic fall. Everything is magical in "Norway - My Heart is with You". The fall metamorphoses into a cosmic wind where discreet celestial voices blow among scattered keyboard keys. The sadness and solitude can be felt with slow guitar solos which cross over the sweetness of an undulatory movement, swept by cosmic winds of a vaporous ambiance where a mellotronné veil encircles of a restrained passion and repressed on the borders of melancholy. Piercing, FD’s guitar floats as shouts of tearing under a synth line which sweeps the horizon of its dark and threatening tone. And the intensity of "Norway - My Heart is with You" reaches its peak with the arrival of percussions which shapes a lascivious sensual structure and draws the lines of a curious bolero where guitar solos abound with passion and acuteness among riffs which become heavier, shaping a sensual electronic rock shaken by powerful drum rolls. With "Sunday Afternoon" FD offers us a jazz/blues fusion on a sensual structure where twinkling arpeggios and dusts of stars shine around slow and sinuous solos of a guitar sometimes sober and sometimes shrill. A nice track à la Software, "Earth" offers a delicious spatial ballet with shimmering sequences of glasses which dance of a hypnotic tempo on a beautiful oscillatory sequential movement. Sober percussions, a bass line and strange pulsations with duck tones accompany this delicate oniric dance which lulls its sequential movement in a nice mellotron mist and increases a bit its tempo under beautiful synth solos. "Sonar" is another brilliant track where FD demonstrates its dexterity to handle as much sequences as guitars. Tones of sonar emerge from the depths and forge an ascending sequential movement, of which the strikes sound as knocks of anvil, under a sky stuffed by resounding winds of a dark synth. Another sequential line is forming. Its chords are more delicate and are answering to the echo of the sonar resonances. Twisted synth solos encircle this static circle where heterogeneous pulsations dance on a sequential movement which grows rich of another line, whereas synth solos cross with indiscipline an arrhythmic movement which turns indefatigably in the whirlwind of its sequences. The percussions plunge "Sonar" in an infernal spherical movement with heterogeneous pulsations and powerful solos of a guitar which drops heavy riffs on a structure swirling ceaselessly. More fluid, "Nightwalk" flies of a beautiful oscillatory sequential movement. Sequences juxtapose on a melodious structure where cosmic winds are very musical and go alongside beautiful guitar solos on a beautiful rhythmic permutation. "Evolution" is a nice electronic ballad composed by John Dyson. A fluty synth sings among stars drawn by synth chords. A melodious synth which releases delicate solos, in accordance with the fine sequenced approach. But FD has fun with the drum and hammers a wildly undisciplined rhythm where furious guitar solos stow to bedazzled beatings while the structure of "Evolution" returns to the musicality of its point of origin. "Live Studio Recording for Satzvey Castle Concert 2011" is a bonus track written for this festival, but played and recorded in FD’s studio. It completes this 11th opus of FD Project with the same musical approach that we find almost everywhere on Water and Earth; a progressive movement encircle by reverberating and twisted waves which coo in a dark sky while sequences dance on a circular movement. Fine sinuous solos float over this movement which will have a descent into vaporous ambiances before being reborn of a more lively and curt tempo with chords to hybrid tints which slam a delicious movement as musical as hypnotic. We can view the integrity of this track, which lasts about 35 minutes, on YouTube. Between his influences for Mike Oldfield and Tangerine Dream, Frank Dorittke continues to forge a name by aligning robust albums. To me, Water and Earth is his best album to date. We feel in it a FD more mature and surer of its means. A FD which undoubtedly learnt of its sessions with Ron Boots, because he likes surrounding his compositions of complex and evolutionary rhythms where melodies and atmospheres are besieged by sequences and synth lines to multiple musicality. The whole thing is always surrounded with a mordant and incisive guitar which sings as much as it cries, in the shade of its hypnotic structures. October 2020 REM GENRE Electronic foobar2000 1.5.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Frank Dorittke, aka F.D. Project, completed his dozen studio recordings in the fall of 2013. In addition, two live recordings and numerous collaborations with other musicians, such as MorPheuSz, have also been released. Frank is already a busy person/musician and has a prodigious output of music to offer, which hasn't had a negative impact on the quality of his releases so far. And his twelfth studio album, Moments Of Life, is in no way inferior.
Frank presents us with eight tracks with running times between 4:13 and 11:34 minutes on his new album, which he dedicated to his father. The CD begins with the track "Unlimited," in which the synths initially glide through the room like a harsh breeze. Gentle pads follow. After a good minute, more synth sounds are added. There's also twirling and hissing, and slowly Frank develops a melody line. Initially somewhat monotonous and uniform (but not boring), the speed builds as the rhythm picks up a notch and further harmonies are added. Next comes "The Return Of O... Part Four," the album's longest track at 11:34 minutes. Here, Frank can't resist once again highlighting his love for the music of Mike Oldfield. But that's not meant negatively, because no one else manages to integrate the Brit's spirit into their own music the way Frank Dorittke does. Gentle surfaces and a reminiscence reminiscent of Oldfield's Tubular Bells open this wonderful track. This piece, too, develops slowly, as Frank plays with dynamics and volume. These wonderful sounds quickly creep into the listener's brain. Like a virus, this music takes hold and doesn't let go. Frank then offers us rocky variations when he picks up the electric guitar, turning the reference to Oldfield into something completely new. Great, as always. Paradise is a gentle track, carried primarily by the atmospheric electric guitar, which has Gilmour-like characteristics. In the background, Frank lets the synths chirp and pads chase through the room. The second part of the six-minute piece becomes rockier and more song-like. This is where it becomes clear that Frank also plays in a rock band. The next track, "Perfect World," continues in a similarly dreamy manner. Here, the electric guitars sound like those of acts like Nautilus. But Frank has his own unique style, and so this track then shifts back into a very rocky section, where the atmospheric, progressive electric guitar takes center stage. The synth parts that Frank intersperses once he's put the guitar aside are also top-notch. A dreamlike piece. Solar World is a sequencer-accented piece that takes on a considerable volume thanks to its somewhat threatening sound. In Tiger, Frank then runs the sequencer like in Tangerine Dream. Here, the sounds of the Berlin School are most clearly evident. The atmospherically dense Dreamcatcher, with some wonderful guitar interludes reminiscent of Ashra & Co., and the dreamy, piano-melody-driven 6 Minutes Of Silence complete this CD. Even after a dozen studio albums, there's no sign of wear and tear on F.D. Project aka Frank Dorittke. The album once again offers the high quality that their previous albums have had. A fantastic work that I can once again recommend without reservation. 2013. Live in Germany 2014 ...... 17:26 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.5.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 It's been three years since Dinslaken-born musician Frank Dorittke, aka F.D. Project, released his last solo album. It was released in the fall of 2013 under the title Moments Of Life. His latest, now tenth, album, Timeless II, will be released on December 15, 2016. With it, Frank follows up on his 2006 album Timeless. Once again, he has solo-recorded seven pieces of timeless music containing basic electronic structures, upon which Frank then conjures his harmonies and melodies via synth or electric guitar.
For years, Frank has created a style all his own, embellishing it with sounds and harmonies from the greats such as Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield, and Alan Parsons. This can also be heard on the new album, which, whether consciously or not, also reveals elements of John Dyson and Brainwork. Six studio tracks and one track recorded at a concert in Germany are included on the disc. It starts with the six-minute piece "Space Fields," in which Frank mixes Berlin School-style sequencers with modern sounds. After just over a minute, sounds emerge that are very reminiscent of the Alan Parsons Project. A very nice melodic introduction to the new album. This is followed by the 6:41-minute "Lost Ship." This piece showcases his collaboration with Ron Boots on their joint project MorPheuSz. Starting at the third minute, he contrasts this sound, reminiscent of the Dutch electronic musician, with a very beautiful, sometimes rock-infused electric guitar. This is the sound we've come to expect from Frank and that we love. The first long track on the program is the 12:43-minute "Elemental Movement." Spacey synths set the tone. After a few moments, the piece then transitions into a sequencer-oriented track with a slight Jarre influence. Ten years ago, on the album Timeless, he first released a piece titled The Return Of O., in which he incorporated sounds by Mike Oldfield into his music. On Timeless II, he now releases The Return Of O… Part V, which follows the same path. A beautiful variation on the Oldfield theme that's fun to listen to. In Spectralis, he then chose some sounds and harmonies that are also familiar from John Dyson and his Wavestar project. Frank has recorded a wonderful melody here to sparkling synth rhythms. Four minutes into this six-and-a-half-minute piece, he returns to his electric guitar and gives it his own personal touch. The title track also goes into a second round on the new album. Here, it's six minutes long and initially shows a calm, floating side. After about two minutes, Frank adds a gentle rhythm. Halfway through, a rocking guitar joins in, and the synths even shimmer. The final track is "Live 2014 Germany," which—as the title suggests—was recorded at a concert in Germany in 2014. At 17:26 minutes, it's the longest track on the album. Spacey synths circle around in the first few minutes before transitioning into a sequencer section. The track becomes increasingly rhythmic until, at the 9th minute, it takes a different turn. The Berlin School sound dominates in the final section. Once again, Frank Dorittke has presented a fantastic album that explores various stylistic avenues while still maintaining its own unique style. A highly recommended work. 2016. Project, from Dinslaken in North Rhine-Westphalia, released his last studio album, titled Timeless II. His eleventh album, titled Roots, will be released in fall 2018. On this album, he returns to his musical roots and pays homage to his electronic music heroes. He composed and recorded a total of seven tracks, each lasting between 6:30 and 11:51 minutes, independently. His combination of electronic sounds and atmospheric guitars once again emerges.
Pulsating synth sounds introduce the first track, "Roots." Frank initially adds some electronic effects, allowing the synth rhythm to take center stage. After a few moments, harmonies emerge, and the piece gains increasing dynamics and momentum. As always with his productions, this is highly exciting. This first track drifts quite stoically for more than nine minutes, constantly evolving through changing sound patterns. In this first track, which only features a light melody in the second half, the rhythm is clearly the focus. The second track, "Revolution" (the name is reminiscent of Jean-Michel Jarre), sounds a bit chilled. After a few moments, a pounding beat meets some very beautiful harmonies. This piece derives its fascination from the interplay of electronics and the electric guitar, which comes in after a while and is so typical of Frank and no one can place it as well as he does. I think I can detect a few sounds reminiscent of Jarre, but it is above all Frank's hypnotic style that characterizes this track. Deep Dream is the name of the third track, which is sequencer-oriented and could thus be a homage to Tangerine Dream. But here, too, Frank's musical style clearly dominates, characterizing this very rhythmic track. After just over two minutes, a bright synth voice takes over the melody. This also has some elements of the Eindhoven School in the style of Ron Boots. The next track, in its title "50 Years Of TD," already reveals who it's dedicated to. With this piece, Frank recalls the 50-year success story of Tangerine Dream, and in particular the 70s and 80s. Wonderful sequencer patterns (chugging, wafting, shimmering), as we know them from the Berlin band, dominate the scene. A piece that never gets boring over its entire length of almost twelve minutes and constantly evolves. His admiration for the Brit Mike Oldfield is well known, and he shows this to some extent in the track "Bells." Some elements in this piece are also reminiscent of John Dyson, for example. And yet, Frank hasn't created a clone of the aforementioned figures, but rather shows his very own style here too. The track titled "B.T.T.R." means nothing other than "Back To The Roots." It's a driving piece of music with a wonderful rhythmic structure. This gives it a drive like a speeding steam locomotive. In the final third, Frank enriches this track with a captivating guitar passage. In this piece, he blends electronic and rock music perfectly. Frank concludes the new album with "Open Land." This piece begins very atmospherically, with synth pads to which Frank adds a few touches of sound. Rhythmic and dreamy at the same time, Frank then releases us from his musical memories. Frank Dorittke always manages to record albums that you can buy blindly and that don't disappoint. As with "Roots," he always takes a very diverse approach. A great album. 2018. Project, a native of Dinslaken, released an album under his own name last year, another album under his pseudonym F.D. Project will be released in early August 2020. It is titled Lunaris and completes the dozen albums under this project name. The guitarist and keyboardist once again recorded the ten tracks on his new album, entitled Part One to Part Ten, single-handedly.
Six of the ten tracks have a running time of more than seven minutes. The remaining tracks are between 3:46 and 6:37 minutes long. The individual parts all stand alone and do not constitute a long track. Frank's music has always oscillated between purely electronic and lightly rocky music. The latter always comes to the fore when Frank plays guitar, which repeatedly elevates the tracks to the spheres of Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd, and the like. But he has such a unique style that you recognize after just a few moments. This is also the case with the opening 8:18-minute Part One. Roaring synths open this piece, paired with wonderful, voluminous pad sounds. Then the sequencer kicks in, followed shortly by electronic rhythms, and you already recognize the typical Dorittke sound. It sounds familiar, yet new. Frank then adds a very appealing melody line, which is the icing on the cake. In the final section, he adds an atmospheric, melodic guitar solo that sounds so unmistakably Dorittke. A great introduction to the new album that begs for more. The 7:28-minute Part Two, in contrast, is spherical, with vocals (probably samples) also incorporated. The track seems like a collaboration between Frank and the electronic pioneer Klaus Schulze. The soundscapes float mystically through the space, underpinned by rhythmic elements. The harmonic arches placed on top initially support the spacey approach, only to be spiced up by a drum rhythm. A gently drifting track that invites you to take off. The nine-minute Part Three also begins spherically, with light hymn-like elements. It initially sounds like a soundtrack to a space adventure. But as soon as the electric guitar kicks in, it quickly moves towards Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" phase. A dream piece for Floyd fans, as Frank perfectly conveys the spirit of David Gilmour while still allowing his own style to shine through. The synths and keyboards also evoke a touch of David Wright and Code Indigo. It gives you goosebumps and is on constant rotation for me. Part Four then clocks in at just under ten minutes. Frank now has some Asian-inspired tones in his repertoire. He layers various sounds on top of each other in this piece and then gives it an irresistible rhythm, which frees the track from its seemingly Asian structure. After just over two minutes, a melody line emerges. The spice of this piece, however, lies in the diverse and sometimes unusual tones. Frank also lets it hiss or chirp, as if an alarm had been triggered. The harmonies, however, are irresistible. The structures and sounds change as the piece progresses, thus maintaining the suspense throughout. This track should definitely be enjoyed loudly on headphones to fully appreciate its radiance. That Frank is also capable of Schiller-esque sounds is demonstrated in the 8:21-minute Part Five. The tones seem to have been borrowed directly from the instruments of Christopher von Deylen. The wonderful harmonies are further underpinned by a driving rhythm that transforms into a danceable beat after a few moments. Frank hasn't delivered a pure Schiller copy here, but rather expanded the style with additional, partly rock-influenced elements (rhythm and electric guitar). This is brilliantly executed. The five-minute Part Six, on the other hand, exhibits a romantic vein, with wide expanses meeting a beautiful electric guitar melody line. The guitar lies at the intersection of David Gilmour and Gary Moore. This demonstrates that Frank is an excellent rock guitarist—no wonder, since he also plays six strings in the rock band Imagine. Part Seven then clocks in at 6:37 minutes. It's a lively electronic track that captivates with its rhythmic patterns. It sounds like a fast-paced version of the Berlin School in the style of Klaus Schulze/Wahnfried. Part Eight, at 3:46 minutes, is the shortest track on the album. Here, electronically generated pads meet an electric guitar in the style of Nautilus & Co. The guitar tones again evoke a slight Asian flair. Sounds reminiscent of a large underground cavern greet the listener in Part Nine, lasting 5:46 minutes. Frank then combines great sounds like those of the Ozric Tentacles with pumping synth rhythms and a piano line. This is rhythmic and catchy. Part Ten, lasting almost eight minutes, concludes Lunaris. Especially the emerging melody line in the second part and the wonderful synth harmonies give you goosebumps. With his twelfth F.D. Project album, Frank Dorittke has once again recorded a very melodic and diverse work. With excellent sonics, he once again oscillates between the worlds of electronica and atmospheric rock. As usual, Frank maintains a high standard of quality on his latest output. 2020. A shimmering shadow effect fluttering like a hummingbird is grafted onto its strobe-like momentum that lasts a full 90 seconds before the first synth waves begin to gravitate around the beat. Orchestral pads and resonant arpeggios come in shortly before the percussions restructure the rhythm into a good electronic rock with staccato violin strings that match its shape. The track approaches its transition phase about 30 seconds into its 3rd minute for a short atmospheric passage. One hears arpeggios tinkling on a suspended bass-sequence line where the synth injects a first harmonic solo and its layers of mist. The percussions redraw a new rhythmic introduction with hand-clapping effects some 30 seconds later. Still in its remodeling phase, Orange navigates in a form of rhythmic uncertainty before returning to its base under good synth solos and electronic chirps. The tone is thus given to an album more melodious than complicated where FD Project reminds us how much the influence of Mike Oldfield dictates his way of composing 9 good titles in a firmament of a very diversified electronic music (EM). Frank Dorritke gives it his all in this album where synth-rock, ballads and even Berlin School live together. A CD which also proposes a musical texture increased by various sound effects, some organic like in Blue, and percussive elements which give a greater depth to a very accessible music. The German synthesist-guitarist makes a great use of orchestrations, some honeyed and others in rhythmic staccato, which give more colors to this pastel album from its emotions and its strong melodious orientations which could please an audience liking the New Age. But Frank remains resolutely stuck to his style of rock and ballad with this zest of Berlin School in the lines of the sequencer.
It’s in hollow and even gloomy win ds that White lies down on a thrilling bass-pulse line and another one whose luminous marbles undulate under the caresses of the winds. The percussions fall some 80 seconds later, structuring a heavy and slow rhythm where a spectral melody of the synth settles in. The guitar comes to deposit good solos on this structure which hardly modifies its rotary axis. A good heavy and slow cosmic rock, full of solos! A guitar pierces the hollow winds of Red. Its bucolic harmony makes us think right away of Mike Oldfield’s style. And when the acoustic guitar puts down a ballad structure, a folk rhythm fills our ears with the flavors of this great Irish musician. It’s not just Red which is in this area of influences. There is Grey (City Lights), as well as a few other openings and guitar solos, I’m thinking of the beautiful Purple (Over the Time), that also has that Oldfield guitar essence. In a slightly more cosmic texture, Black (Berlin Night) follows with a superb circular rhythm structure t hat unravels with a curtly jumping key effect on a finely spasmodic sequencer line. The percussions plough a more rocking rhythm, slowing down this perfect Berliner carousel, under good orchestrations of a synth that multiplies solos and melodious airs. Methodical, not to say narrative, the music comes back with its tunes and verses in bursts of passion that are at the origin of these nice solos. A great Berlin School with a spasmodic sequencer and good percussive effects. Well set on a buzzing bass line, Yellow follows the curve of the sequencer that goes up and down a soundscape decorated with orchestral layers. The percussions pound the rhythm and take the shape of this strong bass line, structuring a duel between the rock and the Berlin School where solos, of guitar as of synth, abound on another narrative structure. Blue like water lapping in an opening that lulls itself with sibylline synth waves. The layers of its opening cast a dramatic aura that is overlaid with seraphi c vocals, putting even more emphasis on an orchestral structure that leans on the New Age. Except that the croaking bass line sweeps away this perception as the track crawls with pain and misery towards a circular rhythm that is layered with morose synth solos. This longest track on COLOR OF LIFE ends up being a heavy, slow ballad with good percussions as the guitar blows its solos on a light ambient trot that ends Blue’s adventure, in a good moody blues. We enter a more melancholic phase of this album. After the very Oldfield Grey (City Lights), Green (Silent Garden) plunges us into a radiant garden with the chirping from a variety of charming birds. The title proposes a rhythm as slow as the ticking of a clock where the acoustic guitar scratches a sad chorus under the faint ahhh of an astral Diva. A beautiful ambient track which takes slightly of tonicity in its last third with a guitar and a synth exchanging solos under the sparkles of stars and of this voice which whispers subm i ssion until making us melt with Purple (Over the Time). And if by any chance you feel sad, nostalgic and down in the dumps, avoid listening to Purple (Over the Time). This high level electronic ballad has all the ingredients to make you cry. Concluding a very nice album from FD Project. Different certainly, but very beautiful and musical without preventing it from being also very good! 2022. Project invited its fans to watch an intimate performance with familiar music that exudes its new sonic flavors. And the word sober is not too strong. Simply titled “E-Live 2013,” this CD/DVD set is an unpretentious witness to an inspired and inspiring performance where we see a somewhat solitary, shy, and above all very focused Frank Dorittke gradually emerge from his bubble to offer a show where EM dons the dark black clothes of furious cosmic rock. For over an hour, F.D. Project shares with its audience the cradle of its influences, which caresses artists as dominant as Mike Oldfield and Tangerine Dream, by way of Pink Floyd.
And it begins with "Unlimited (E-Live Version)." Taken from his latest studio album, Moments of Life, we hear the same structure but with a long, more melancholic introduction. The same delicious melodic refrain rolls like a magnetizing earworm for 4 more minutes before the taciturn winds silence it and carry us into the spheres of Tangerine Dream, Ricochet periods to Stratosfear. As comfortable on a rhythm sequencing machine as with his guitar, Frank Dorittke forges a nervous rhythm that skips and hiccups in the mists that initially concluded Unlimited. Synth pads spread a harmonic haze that gently follows the melodic paths of Stratosfear while "Unlimited (E-Live Version)" brings the listener into a sonic landscape as familiar as it is unexpected with good twisted synth solos that sing over a rhythm structure that is very reminiscent of Chris Franke's signature. "Part of Quadea" presents an interesting reworking of the 67-minute piece, The Other Side of F.D. Project... Quadea, which F.D. Project presented in 2012. "Norway" is a superb interpretation of Norway - My Heart Is With You, released on Water and Earth in 2011. It's a superb electronic ballad where Frank Dorittke's guitar chops up atmospheres whispered by Eric van der Heijden on the flute. Emerging from his little stage cocoon, Frank Dorittke degenerates behind the blaring solos of his six-string guitar and dives headlong into his "PF Medley," a beautiful electronic version of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. "Encore" concludes this very sober performance, and video recording, with a more or less ambiospheric track that leads into a kind of psychedelic ambient trance with guitar loops à la Manuel Gottsching. “E-Live 2013” is a good CD/DVD set. You have to live with what you have, and that's what Frank Dorittke does. There are no surprises, except for the musical incursions, no special effects, no bonus features, no making-of. The images are beautiful, well presented with close-ups of the artist who feels more at ease as the show progresses. It's primarily aimed at F.D. Project fans. But it's also a very good way to enter a universe whose secrets are the prerogative of its charms. 2014. Nocturna ...... 01:11:15 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.5.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Do you remember FD Project's last album, Water & Earth? As an extra track, the German guitarist/synthesist included an excerpt from a long improvised track he played during a concert at Satzvey Castle on May 7, 2011, entitled "The Other of ...FD Project." Well, this other side of Frank Dorittke is called Nocturna, and it's this long composition, reworked in the studio, that fills Frank Dorittke's latest opus on the Syngate label. Nocturna is a long, minimalist carousel of over 71 minutes divided into five parts, tormented by scintillating arpeggios, choirs, and astral synth breaths throughout a hypnotic spiral procession fueled by fine sequential movements. Strongly influenced by Mike Oldfield and Tangerine Dream, Nocturna bursts forth like a pact with gentleness. Like a door opening on its creaky hinges, the long polyrhythmic tunnel of "Nocturna" opens to the tones of caustic and reverberant waves. The synth layers that wander in suspension creak among howls of twisted metal, hiding the few harmonious chords that contrast with a heavy intro where metal engenders coldness. But in the distance we hear a delicate carousel spinning its glass chords, embracing a superb refrain that is reminiscent of the enormous influence of Mike Oldfield and his Tubular Bells on Frank Dorittke. Dark and meditative synth layers lament, like violin sighs, and caress this delicate floating spiral that a bass line with ascending jolts comes to cover. From note to note, the intro of "Nocturna" prepares its first mutation. This bass line opens the ball with crystalline arpeggios that only pass through while the percussions shake up this innocent waddle somewhat. This new permuting rhythm accelerates the fragile flow of this soft dreamlike intro that swirls with more heaviness under good synth solos. The 2nd phase of "Nocturna" begins around the 22nd minute with a warmer approach. Waves and morphic choirs push a fine sequential movement to skip stealthily on a still circular structure. The flow is more fluid and melodic. Arched on neutral percussions it gravitates under solo synth breezes, which are reminiscent of the melodious approaches of Tangerine Dream and the Schmoelling era, and beautiful shimmering arpeggios whose scintillation blends harmoniously with angelic breaths. This delicate, somewhat dreamlike tempo brings us to the 31st minute, when Frank Dorittke takes out his guitar. This third segment is a beautiful, unexpected passage that breaks the spiraling magnetism of "Nocturna." It offers a strange, abstract western structure with lone cowboy chords lingering among sequences hobbling like ill-fitting hooves under a sky twisted by guitar solos as incisive as they are poetic, competing with a synth with aromas increasingly influenced by Tangerine Dream.
We're at the 40th minute, and "Nocturna" begins to shed its skin like a burning snake. A sequenced bass line emerges from the astral crystalline breaths. Its ascending movement echoes the swirling structure that sets the tranquil rhythm of "Nocturna." More fluid, the twisted refrain rolls its sequenced chords beneath ethereal breaths and prismatic keys. After a brief black passage, limpid sequences dance beneath the heavenly breaths of a suave synth. A synth that hears the sequences subdivided their keys and clings to this ascending bass line that had evaporated earlier, while percussions fall to draw a short rhythmic turbulence. And little by little the silence of the stars returns. Poetry settles in with waters flowing from nowhere and forgotten breaths in a musical labyrinth where illuminated keys shine. And the frank rhythm returns. Hammered by sober percussions, it bends its spine under the winds and iridescent arpeggios that constantly radiate around the permutations of "Nocturna". We reach the 58-minute mark and the swirling crystal notes draw more fluid arcs as the sequential movement widens its musical tangent, letting its sequenced keys multiply and intertwine, to dock with another bass line as hesitant as it is gently thrumming. From fluid to jerky, the rhythm of "Nocturna" continues its accelerated permutations over a brief period of time, ending its polyrhythmic procession in the air of a slow morphic techno where the strokes of the sequences and percussion are coated with a synth with the scent of Vangelis. Composing a long 71-minute suite without losing any of its central theme is an ambitious project that FD Project carries out very well. Forgetting his guitars and focusing more on the sequences and musical effects of the synths, Frank Dorittke molds a beautiful melodious universe that follows in the footsteps of Mike Oldfield and his series of virginal chords that debauched his cult work Tubular Bells. I liked it. It's beautiful Berlin School music. Poetic and dreamlike, without jolts or complexities, flowing like a beautiful soporific tale keeping us awake, our eyes closed to daydream on the winds of the chiming spirals. 2012. Like the superb musician from Reading, Frank Dorittke harmonizes his rhythms and atmospheres with a magnificent minimalist approach. In doing so, his works infiltrate our ears with a delicate dreamlike approach. And Quadea is proof 10 times that even if the German synthesist/guitarist has been following the same melodic paths for almost 10 years, there is always that little something that seduces. Divided into 6 parts, the rhythmic story of The Other Side of FD Project... Quadea evolves with each of its acts. Moving from slow and waltz-like to heavy and intensive, this rhythmic structure nevertheless maintains its desire to settle on a main minimalist sequential line that throws us melodies based on chiming spirals. Night lullabies that swirl and weave through rhythms and atmospheres, like innocent refrains, over slowly evolving rhythmic structures.
Heavy reverberations give rise to fine, clear sequences that creep forward. Hesitant, they take time to define the puny rhythm of "Quadea Part One," which beats beneath the suave layers of a Mellotron synth. Blown by ether winds, the sequences accelerate the cadence with an uncertain harmonic trace that percussions seize with symmetrical strikes, supporting the minimalist linear movement of "Quadea Part One," which breathes the soft breaths of a misty Mellotron and the beautiful soaring solos of a synth with a vintage analog flavor. Do you like the hypnotic and harmonic rhythm of "Quadea Part One"? Then you'll devour the other five parts. Emerging from the raucous breaths of a Didge, "Quadea Part Two" follows the precepts of "Part One" with a harmonic sequential movement that swirls in a semicircle and flows under intense synth layers that subdivide choirs and solos. The second part awakens the soul with a beautiful cello approach that covers a kind of clannish oration. A delicate torrent of limpid and fluid sequences are born from the introductory crackles of "Part Three" which presents a more lively rhythmic structure. One of Quadea's charms lies in its minimalist sequences that embrace the same melodic tangents, regardless of the modifications in the rhythmic structures. On "Part Three", the spell is striking. Especially with the biting guitar of Frank D. Project who launches heavy riffs and incisive solos on a rhythm that has become heavier. With the efficiency of the drum machine, we feel like we are entering progressive rock territory. After an intro imbued with a mysterious veil, where pulses threaten beneath spectral lamentations, "Quadea Part Four" swirls in a superb sequential movement. Sequences that twirl in perfect hiccuping circles that solid drum hits frame with a heavy rotary movement ennobled by tortuous synth solos. A synth that also releases harmonious layers with the airs of a 70s Tangerine Dream. "Part Five" opens to our ears with guitar chords wandering among caustic breaths. This very musical intro is cradled by iridescent breaths that smother in a canvas of percussions and pulses whose uncertain strikes drum towards a dry and jerky rhythm with circular keys that swirl under suave and tearful solos of a synth as poetic as it is melancholic. Howling synth breezes moan in blue breaths, spreading the morphic intro of "Quadea Part Six," the pièce de résistance of The Other Side of FD Project... Quadea. Melodious synth layers shimmer and sway through these salty breezes, tracing a hypnotic sequenced movement that skips beneath superb waves of a warm Mellotron. The fragile rhythm of "Part Six" gradually caramelizes, clinging to another string of sequences that roll like a discreet train beneath the dense layers of a synth as dark as it is harmonic. And it's in Mellotron clouds and silvery breezes that the anvil-like rhythm of "Quadea Part Six" sinks into our ears with all the nostalgic reminiscences of Tangerine Dream's vintage years. The Other Side of F.D. Project... Quadea is from the seed of beautiful albums from an analogue Berlin School. Frank Dorittke is a master in the art of minimalist harmonic magnetism with his limpid sequences, forged in the distant corridors of Tubular Bells, which weave earworms into electronic crusades with aromas of Tangerine Dream from the Baumann years. And Quadea is indeed the answer to Nocturna. It's a logical continuation of the last opus of F.D. Project which will certainly captivate us again with its incessant harmonic structures which have just that little something different, from album to album, to lull us between two universes. It started with Electronic Dreams (2003) and it has continued ever since. 2012. October 2020 REM GENRE Electronic foobar2000 1.6.11 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 Happiness is in music! It’s when I receive an album from an artist that I love as much as Frank Dorittke that I repeat this sentence to myself. And so, it is true.In an album that wants to be neither more nor less to be a sequel to The Other Side of FD Project … Quadea and The Other Side of FD Project … Nocturna, THE OTHER SIDE OF AND MORE offers a hybrid approach where a long river-track goes alongside 3 shorter ones with more rock dimensions, even technod. A music where the scents of Mike Oldfield always remain at the heart of its charms and make a very beautiful album that this synth-guitar duality so unique in the universe of FD Project always makes much more beautiful …
And it begins with a polarizing wave and its undulating shadow in a murky universe where chthonian whispers lurk. Luminous streaks are added to this backdrop of shadows and of muddy tones, creating a sonic magma that winds up constantly widening th e gap between its beginning and its end. The movement is therefore slow with sounds of percussive echoes in a cave from where we can hear the movements of rattlesnakes’ tails. The echo of a sequence vibrates some 210 seconds farther. A minute later, that distant shadow of rhythm takes on a more lively form with the combat of a lone key and a bass-line of pulsations. Encrusted in a minimalist approach, the rhythm of The Other Side Of … Part 1 literally comes to life around the 6th minute. Playing cat and mouse in a more musical choreography, the sequencer and this line of bass-pulses form a hypnotizing rhythm under a first dark sky with a heaviness that sticks our shoulders to our ribs. But beware of you! Pay attention to the many enchanting traps that punctuate the 4 parts of this long title-track. The first one to take us by surprise is this series of percussive elements stolen from the tails of rattlesnakes which will quietly condition our cortex to hear these Gothic chains whi c h opened the doors of the immense underground gutters in this period when torture was the national sport of the barbarians. The ambiences around these effects take on a sinister appearance with moans drowned in distortion and prismatic chants as the fatal march of the monks who own these dungeons evolve from corridor to floor. In return, we feel a more reassuring vision with these clearings in the timbre of the voices and these radiant waves which guide us to these percussions which revive this quiet rhythm just before the 12th minute. This slightly more heightened flow takes place over a little 90 seconds before the 3rd form of The Other Side Of … Part 1 is taking its ease in Techno-rock for limp legs. The Other Side Of … Part 2 falls lifeless with a pack of breezes and dark woosshh so fused together they form a dense and compact tonal body with the possibility of progressing by implosions. The echo of a percussive sequence resounds in a layer of celestial voices which joined this slow movement, while other layers of percussion introduce the first riffs of a guitar. Everything remains ambient and everything remains frozen up until the 30th minute, where the sequencer activates a first draft of electronic rhythm to THE OTHER SIDE OF AND MORE A pulsing bass-line outbids for a more lively presence to which Frank Dorritke adds an organic effect that radiates even more under the guitar solos. The synth also puts its touch while remaining less convincing than the guitar whose incisive solos try to polish the fluidity of this spasmodic rhythm. And after the amplified silence of the void, The Other Side Of … Part 4 modifies this spasmodic structure to inject some clumsy keys into it in a rhythmic scheme which ogles the frontiers of Electronica. The dazed zigzags, which trace these lines of rhythms exceeding the 0.8 limit on the resonances of solid bass-sequence hits, are as charming as these fascinating solos of a guitar-synth fusion which gives a r e gurgitating talk-box effect in a too short lapse of time for all the charms of this last part of The Other Side Of … The desire to hear again this long segment of 47 minutes having become stronger than to hear the rest of the album, it’s thus with 2 or 3 listenings late compared to The Other Side Of … that I undertook this section that Frank D names And More A staccato effect enshrouded of electronic reverberations brings Polarlight out of its introductory limbo. A more lively rhythm emerges from the reverberating layers of a synth-accordion, giving birth to a rhythm structure la Edgar Froese’s Stuntman, Drunken Mozart in the Desert. A slight ringing is heard between the multiple cascades of the synth layers. It guides the now minimalist structure of Polarlight in a very Mike Oldfield’s vision where are floating many guitar solos unique to FD Project’s touch. And if we concentrate enough, we can even hear distant scents of Tubular Bells on Polarlight. A guitar that h as become more symbolic in this second part of FD’s new album. She pulls the best of the German musician in the very flamboyant Black Mirror, an aggressive techno with its dance floor vision and where the guitar multiplies its solos in another thought for Mike Oldfield. But not as much as on La Mmoire where the heavy and slow rhythm really breathes by Tubular Bells. As good as it’s beautiful! I would write that too in order to properly situate this last album by an artist who is still so very attractive … 2021.
