This album featured 39 artists from around the globe, including Jamaican Ragga artist General Levy (in the song “Struggle”), Indian singers Kiren Sambhi and Sonal Varsani (respectively on “Heaven”, “Tears” and “Desert”), Sardinian voice virtuoso Tenores di Neoneli and Trio Cocco (respectively on “Lamentos” and “Roots”) and Antonio Testa who provided the track “ Stalagmite”, recorded in a cave playing natural stalagmites! Earthbound has been composed in between years 1993/1995 and subsequently released worldwide in 1997 by Antenna Records / Bustin Lose Recordings. Written, Produced and Arranged by Gaudi.

The key undertaking in Gaudi’s work is to unify different forms of music from around the world and represent them in his own personal style, while at the same time, most importantly, keeping the heart and significance of the cultural roots. Gaudi is as much a scholar of Khan’s work as he is of Dub, and lists among his favorite dub artists King Tubby, Scientist, Mad Professor, and Lee “Scratch” Perry. After doing studio work with the “eccentric studio genius” Perry in 2005, Gaudi had confirmation of one of his own strongest beliefs in music production which is to respect your own personal integrity by “being yourself and always following your own sound.” The album opens with the soft tones of “Bethe Bethe Kese Kese”; a nostalgic and warm track where melodious Flute and Strings echo contemplative vocals. A firm stepper rhythm anchors and drives the track while Sarangi adds dimension to this wistful introduction. This is also the first track that Gaudi produced in the series and very much provided the drive and direction that is evident throughout the rest of the album. “Tera Jana Kere Rang Lawe” is a dub influenced roots reggae track combining passionate and melancholic Strings with a roots dub bassline. Its uncluttered feel and rolling Bass spiced with off-beat Tabla gives space and groove. The vocals in “Dil Da Rog Muka Ja Mahi” inspired the inclusion of a theme from the Kraftwerk track “The Model” used by permission from the legendary German electro-pioneers in this remarkable excursion of a track; analogue Synthesizers give authenticity to its 1977 origins, while Hammond organ, a deep bassline and fills of dubbed up percussive echo keep the reggae flavors rolling. “Ena Akhiyan Noo” is positive and evocative; an upbeat reggae theme supporting emotive and expansive vocal passages is spiced up with rub-a-dub flavors and breaks of hypnotic chant. You don’t have to understand Urdu, Punjabi or Persian to feel the sentiment evoked on Dub Qawwali, it is a work of truly international appeal. The use of vintage analogue studio equipment and Dub production techniques such as tape echoes, valve amps, Fender Rhodes, spring reverbs, Hammond organ and Moog, characterizes Gaudi’s production style, however it is not without its share of 21st century intervention and wizardry… Individual tracks from the original 70’s multi-track recordings often contained multiple parts together on them. These had to then be carefully cleaned up in order to make them usable in a way that would enable the composition of these new works. (This included much of the vocal parts which where mixed in the same track as the Harmonium and other instruments!) Gaudi’s attention to detail paid off. Dub Qawwali revives Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s vocals in a truly distinctive fashion – a vital accomplishment given Khan’s stature. The legendary Pakistani artist has inspired the likes of Peter Gabriel, Michael Brook and Eddie Vedder and is in the Guinness Book of Records for having the world’s largest recorded output by a Qawwali artist — a total of 125 albums. It was also a year in which he was nominated for a BBC World Music Award for his Six Degrees release Dub Qawwali (with Sufi singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan). The album’s success extended Gaudi’s fan base substantially, particularly in America and Canada, reaching #2 in the iTunes World Chart (USA) and #1 on Amazon's Electronica charts.
It was also a year in which Gaudi took an unusual posting in Italy and became Vocal Coach for the groups category in the hit TV talent show X Factor. During 3 series he produced an overall show winner, the
winners of the critics award and also received a gold disc following the success of one of the groups debut album that he produced.
In all his albums -12 to date - Gaudi has worked to create his own synthesis using elements of dub, electronica and world music which has been mostly down-tempo in nature... No Prisoners is a very different and definitely up-tempo creation. Stylistically its primary energy is breakbeat influences underpinned with fat basslines and subtle live world instrumentation such as oud, tribal percussion and highland bagpipes. The performances of many fine musicians on the album bring a human touch; with live bass and guitars, percussion, drum, melodica and piano amongst others, while the electronic elements, as per all Gaudi’s albums, come from his beloved analogue equipment - vintage synthesizers, tape echoes and spring reverbs.

Gaudi has not been alone in the creation of In between times and has worked with a noteworthy collection of artists, many of them pioneers in their respective musical genres and all of them highly respected in their own right. From The opening track “Put your guns down” featuring vocals by Black Uhuru frontman Michael Rose, which was written in collaboration with highly respected dub producer Twilight Circus, to the powerful anthem “Life”, featuring rising reggae star Jahmai, which combines hard hitting vocals and deep electro bass contrasted with melancholic and hauntingly emotive piano riffs. The atmospheric and ethereal electro-dub adventures of “Tamino and the temple of dub”, featuring on flute one of the godfathers of psychedelic trance music Raja Ram (from electronic duo Shpongle), contrasts with the entirely more earthy and rootsy dub number “I start to pray”: a truly distinguished collaboration between legendary dub producer and vocalist Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and UK electronic pioneers The Orb with the inimitable Dennis ‘Dubmaster’ Bovell adding his characteristically uncompromising bass to the mix - it’s a high risk strategy to put so many virtuoso artists in one song but one that pays off handsomely in the realization of this deep, elegant and very dubby track! It is not only a deft blending of diverse genres that is noteworthy in this album, but also the diversity of first-rate collaborators. Hedflux, one of the UK’s hottest breaks producers, together with dub maestro Twilight Circus make a formidable trio with Gaudi on the track “Crucial Data”; Moroccan artist Tahar from Momo Project collaborated on “Hurriya” (meaning ‘Freedom’ in Arabic) adding vocals and traditional Moroccan Mondol to this powerful and stirring track. Highly respected author, philosopher and agent for change Greg Sams contributed his words and his voice to the soothingly deep and thought provoking track “Spiritual Orphans”. Star of the UK reggae and hip-hop scenes Deadly Hunta brings his raw vocal energy, ragga-style, to the contrastingly niyabinghi tones of “Babylon is fallin”; while Gaudi’s on-stage partner in rhyme, vocalist and prodigiously talented beatboxer, Danny Ladwa features on both “Why u wanna run” and “Unlimited possibilities”. The making of MAGNETIC truly was a creational challenge, even for a man who has been working to dissolve musical boundaries for over 35 years. The initial idea of the project was to compose an album of entirely new music using sounds from the RareNoise catalogue as his ‘orchestra of musicians’; over the course of its development it grew though into a full spectrum artistic interaction with a further array of international music giants, some of which GAUDI has worked in past with. Best loved and noted to date for his genre blending and high quality dub-centric productions, in MAGNETIC, GAUDI has shown us another aspect of his musical self, other ranges in his musical landscape and he has done it with an all-star cast of supporting musicians. The list of artists whose sounds were initially chosen by GAUDI from the RareNoise catalogue of releases or who successively added their sounds and skills to the overall project reads like a ‘who’s who’ of musical talent and gives warranted indication as to the quality of the ingredients; They include bass legend and producer extraordinaire Bill Laswell, psychedelic prog-rock bassist Colin Edwin of Porcupine Tree fame, drummer Steve Jansen (of Japan fame), Ted Parsons, the drummer from cult band Killing Joke, Roger Eno on piano, Tony Levin on bass (best known for his work with Peter Gabriel and King Crimson), Grammy award winning Eric Mouquet (aka Deep Forest) on grand piano, drummer extraordinaire Pat Mastelotto (known for his work with XTC, King Crimson and David Sylvian), celebrated Italian bassist Lorenzo Feliciati, innovatory avant-guard guitarist Eraldo Bernocchi, post-punk experimental guitarist Buckethead (collaborator with Guns ’n’ Roses, Bootsy Collins, Iggy Pop), drummer Nikolaj Bjerre from Lamb, multi-instrumentalist Jamie Saft on bass …to name but a few! GAUDI, alongside programming and production, returns to his roots as a pianist / keyboard and Theremin player, playing here his full arsenal of vintage analogue synthesizers. MAGNETIC is like a tour around the other side of GAUDI, who always had the off-beat of reggae in his step, but since his teenage years also had music from experimental electronica, new wave, krautrock and proto-punk flowing through his veins. Bands like Bauhaus, Tuxedomoon, Yello, Cabaret Voltaire, Devo, Killing Joke, Talkingheads and The Residents informed his early years. For those familiar with GAUDI’s work these influences can be heard in a myriad of different ways in most of his 15 albums to date, but predominantly as flavours amongst the dub textures.
In MAGNETIC, however, he has reversed the polarity, north has become south, there is dub seasoning to be found within, but the body, tone and flavour of this album are another beast altogether. MAGNETIC is a contemporary tribute to the darker side of the 80’s; to psychedelic rock and an era when Sigue Sigue Sputnik dropped proto-punk on the world! It is not a departure from the GAUDI we know and love, however… MAGNETIC is a celebration of bass in all its guises - there are six world class bass players featured in the album - and GAUDI’s roots as a pianist and self confessed lifelong synth junkie, come up fairly centre stage. His use throughout the album of original, modular and analogue synths, from his big guns: the ARP 2600, Fender Rhodes, Minimoog, Korg MS20 and ARP Odyssey, to the diminutive but no less iconic Casio VL Tone, to his trusty vintage tape echoes and the 24 track analogue tape machine it was recorded on, give the sound an authenticity and integrity right down from the musicians to the mechanics. MAGNETIC is a both a visual journey of great, but hidden, complexity and richness which yearns to be listened to with closed eyes, but also a voyage across a full spectrum of tempos, from near ambient soundscapes to rocky up-tempos with seamless bridges in between. MAGNETIC is an album of polarities, spacious yet introspective, dark yet with a hint whimsy, deep and soothing yet fundamentally groovy; it was created both as a homage to the joy music brings and as an act of appreciation for great musicians. Why ‘MAGNETIC’? From the far reaches of the universe to our solar system and the planets within it, it is the force that keeps everything together. Magnetism moves us, pulls us toward each other, keeps the particles together. Astronaut Alchemists was made the purists way; the album was recorded over two years, each session was done together in the studio, face to bass, heating the metal of inspiration and pouring and shaping it as it flowed. As Gaudi said of the recording process, “something organically surfaced since the beginning of our studio sessions: the chemistry. Chemistry is vital when you work in the studio with another artist, it’s that magic thing that you can’t really study”. It’s amazing, with the schedule that they both keep, that it only took 2 years to coordinate the required studio sessions! The album features Youth on bass, Gaudi on Keyboards and they are both responsible for programming and production. Developed in 1920 by Russian physicist Léon Theremin, the Theremin is an electronic device which works with magnetic fields and consists of one metal antenna controlled without physical contact. Predominantly a fairly niche instrument, it has featured in several styles of music since its creation, from classical works to sci-fi movie soundtracks, pop and rock. Gaudi was supported in this tribute by five of the world's top dub producers - Mad Professor, Adrian Sherwood, The Scientist, Dennis Bovell and Prince Fatty. All hugely respected individuals who have been representing the best of international dub production for the last 50 years, they have provided the riddims that underpin Gaudi's Theremin playing on this astonishing project. As a solo artist, Gaudi has recorded over 20 albums, while as a producer he has hundreds of productions under his belt. In his 30 year career he has worked with legends of the reggae and electronic music worlds including Steel Pulse, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Michael Rose, Horace Andy, Michael Franti, Zion Train, Maxi Priest, The Beat, Sizzla, Dub Pistols, Hollie Cook, Dub FX, Youth, The Orb, Simple Minds, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Deep Forest, Trentemøller and Lamb. Gaudi is no stranger to this kind of undertaking having previously taken on the challenge of composing and producing an album of new music working with vocal parts from archives of legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
The result of this multi-year endeavor, released with the title “Dub Qawwali”, earned him a nomination for a BBC World Music Award: It was not only a beautiful and sensitively handled piece of work, but also a landmark album in which the very concept of ‘remix’ was taken to the next level to become ‘re-composition’.
Artists featured in this 10in EP include bass legend and producer extraordinaire Bill Laswell, psychedelic prog-rock bassist Colin Edwin (of Porcupine Tree fame), drummer Steve Jansen (from art pop band Japan), Ted Parsons (drummer from cult band Killing Joke), drummer extraordinaire Pat Mastelotto (known for his work with XTC, King Crimson and David Sylvian), innovatory avant-guard guitarist Eraldo Bernocchi, post-punk experimental guitarist Buckethead (collaborator with Guns ’n’ Roses, Bootsy Collins, Iggy Pop), celebrated bassists Lorenzo Feliciati to name but a few! Recorded on the 'Happy Roots' riddim, 'Bird in Hand' was Sam Carty's take on Naushad Ali's Hindi love song, 'Milte Hi Ankhen'. Here it’s re-titled ’Theremin In Hand’, with Gaudi playing the vocal line on the theremin, while Colin Edwin (of Porcupine Tree) plays bass and Horseman drums. The track was originally going to be on the “100 Years” album, but a conversation with Adrian Sherwood while the duo were working together on Lee Perry’s “Rainford” album led them to the conclusion that it would be better to release it later as a single. On the flip is a brand new Gaudi original, ’Theremin Memoir', which finds him channeling Serge Gainsbourg and Ennio Morricone in his homage to their 60’s and 70’s films. Colin Edwin again plays bass, with all other instruments are played by Gaudi. Both tracks represent a continuation of the themes developed on the “100 Years” album, with Gaudi’s theremin riding the riddims in the same way that Augustus Pablo did with his melodica. The instrument’s other worldliness proves to be a perfect fit with reggae’s earthy roots, allowing the melodies to glide and float in harmony. Bandcamp called it a “match made in heaven”, Electronic Sound a “true triumph” and Culture Dub an “unlikely but undeniably successful union”. As the project name says, it's WEIRD and it's DUB!
All experienced producers in their individual fields, bought together by a mutual love of reggae music and the urge to put their collective skills into the pot and cook up something fresh.
The result of this performance/production union is the album 'Recreational', an adventure into deep bass by three maverick bass-men, each bringing to the party similar tastes but different production skills and musical backgrounds. Gaudi and Polcari bringing an amassed wealth of reggae and dub history with them and Dr Cat a more Jazz oriented lean.
The bass-touch of "Dub Maestro" Bill Laswell adds to the album an extra depth and brilliancy all round!
This album is all about man making music as opposed to computers making music; in fact the only computer used was in the final editing. It was created using vintage analogue equipment - Moog, analogue synths and tape echoes with additional live Fender Rhodes, theremin, melodica and guitars.
The old school recording style - using all outboards with not a plug-in in sight - gives the sound dynamic texture and dimension, something that is often missing in much of today’s music where the sounds are generated by computer.
'Recreational' has its own authentic and distinctive sound and although it is most definitely contemporary in flavor, it remains true to the original roots of dub in it’s creation.
It is essentially deep dub, spacious and pared down in parts rich and intricate in others. After a generation of duos, the power trio is back, hotwired into the 21st century in the startling new form of SCREEN. But, where the threesome line-up, first propagated in the mid-60s by the likes of Cream, used guitar, bass and drums to rattle the roof, Gaudi, Alex Paterson (The Orb) and Reverend John Chester have conjoined to tear down the walls, powered by mutual obsessions with dub’s bass-propelled dislocation of the norm, except used as a springboard.
It was the love for dub/reggae that initially brought ‘ambient-electronica pioneer’ Alex Paterson and international dub maestro Gaudi together, the ever-questing pair bonding over remixes and a monumental back-to-back soundclash on the Chilled Chewy ChooseDays radio show in London.
Gaudi and The Orb collaborated on a myriad of studio projects in the past, including works with legendary reggae producer Lee Scratch Perry, Pink Floyd’s guitar genius David Gilmour and internationally renown producer and bassman Youth (from Killing Joke, –also appearing on SCREEN’s album) but for this new sonic adventure they needed an diverse new flavour so were joined by vocalist/percussionist Reverend John Chester (also collaborator with KLF, Killing Joke, Dave Stewart, Fela Kuti to name but a few).
The trio embarked on the intense series of recording sessions which have resulted in the amazing album ‘We Are Screen!’ -released worldwide by legendary UK label Malicious Damage-, one of the most startling creative and turbulent albums of the new decade!
Where technology often seems to squeeze the original passion and maverick dam-busting spirit out of music, SCREEN have appeared to rough and dub things up, both in homage to this most anarchic musical form, while also plugging into the kind of syncopated creative emotion which fuels great music.
To quote Joe Strummer, a cog in the universe shifted somewhere when Gaudi, Alex and Chester met in the latter's London studio, putting down beats as the creative collision between them turned into a hyper-sparking particle shower of new music. While the 12 tracks of their album sport recognizable elements from previous signature sounds, the spirit of collaboration turns this masterpiece into a three-way odyssey leaving musical barriers as distant specks on the horizon, the afore-mentioned dub pulsing in the lower reaches or splintering vocals, which sometimes lend a cold, futuristic sheen to the messages.

In the last 20 years Gaudi and Hardage have worked together on numerous productions, then in 2016 have created this project where dub is the key element that combines their long-time mutual passion for movie soundtracks and cinematic soundscapes.
LAB DUB has subsequently developed its music idea into a more specific goal: producing a dub tribute to one of the greatest living composer of our time: Ennio Morricone.
Honouring the traditions of old school dub, this album has been made with the use of analogue studio equipment and real instruments, such as Tape Echoes, Moog synthesizers, ARP2600, ARP Odyssey, Korg MS20, analogue mixing console 32ch, Theremin, guitars, piano, voice, Hammond organ, strings, drums and fender Rhodes. All mixed live and in real time, the computer in this production appears only as an editing machine and additional sound palette.

The duo formed 40 years ago and consists of Gaudi (on analogue synthesizers, tape echoes and drum machine) and Diego D’Agata of Splatterpink (on bass, synthesizers and distorted vocals), fuelled by their mutual obsession for sound distortion, analogue synthesizers and Ralph Records’s music catalogue!
The plan they had was to record an improvised experimental-noise album in just 24 hours then split the duo and destroy all tapes, leaving no trace of what’s been created and recorded that day. And so it went, they brought their gear down to an underground cellar in the centre of their native town Bologna (Italy), recorded the album, destroyed everything and took two separate routes that kept them apart from each other for over 4 decades!
In 2021 PARANOISE decided to reform, with the only intention to create new dissonant material for the already unsettled “COVID World”!
And here we are, they are back (hell nooo!), even more atrocious than before, hitting you straight into the forehead with their cacophonic and disturbing soundscapes, with two brand new tracks, ‘Noizu’ and ‘The 2nd Act’. Enjoy (if u can). ;-) released February 14, 2021 Produced by Gaudi.
