The label name and circuit style logo is a homage to the truth tables found in analogue electronic instruments. The label sound is a focus on the real analogue electronics that bring nuance, warmth and individuality to music and creativity. We are here to celebrate that unique relationship each artist has with the hardwear kit they know and love. Based in Sheffield UK and representing artists from around the world we embrace the odd, the beautiful, the accomplished and the previously undiscovered. Aleksandr Tresorg - Adherence (5:05) This album is a collection of compositions written over the span of four years, two continents and life changing events. There were many iterations on some tracks influenced by other projects that I have going on. My style keeps changing, I think that is something worth showing. There is a mixed technique involved. Some compositions were recorded live, others punched into sequencers and there is also some generative MIDI composition involved. Initial process is the most interesting to me, I know what I want to do moments after listening to a looping sample, tweaking knobs or dabbing some chords on an old micro tuned piano. Aleksandr was brought up in a classical musical environment, professionally learning to play the violin and piano at an early age. Having produced music for theatres, installations, performance and film, his creations always included a cinematic touch. While working as a software developer, his curiosity was piqued exploring generative composition and signal processing. His Live Sets are a deep dive into his musical creations, always accompanied by video synthesis. Aleksandr writes programs and music. Written in the span of four years, various track iterations were morphed along the way—a surreal glimpse into processed and eroded electrical substructures and experimental mood shifts is the result. Eight tracks traversing over 50-minutes, Tresorg delivers mechanized, techno-infused, and broken sound designs with a solid foundation. Tracks like “Novembers Argor,” “Reciprocal Hibernation,” and “Ntares” emit four-to-the-floor technoid elements and atmospheric layers for 3am consumption. In other sonic entanglements, “Adherence” maneuvers in a slow-motion electronica realm as it dives straight into darker corridors where chunky beats cross through delicate melodic streams. A favorite among the lot is “…lenergy” where modular blips and bleeps flicker in nostalgic IDM fashion, an inspired rhythm pushes this track forward as it eventually breaks down in too short a runtime. “Lostpoet – change (grey robot remix)” delves into early Gescom/Machinedrum (Skam/Merck-era) broken-beats, vocal bit chopping, and rugged acid-drenched bass undulations. As Tresorg’s trove of exploratory sound fragments coalesce, “Encapsulation” expands on the above-mentioned soundscapes with over 13-minutes of field recordings, roughened ambient sheets, and jaw-dropping hypnotic sequences that are simply elevated to a higher plateau. Young Girl comes with a daring hybrid live / electronic set, absolute music and performance rather than a dance set - the kind of set that has people stare, engrossed, or leave the room confused. He is in love with lazy beats and sampling instruments to a near infinite number of times to create rare sounds. Breathing vocals with a luminous background until everything turns to a beautiful melancholic and unpredictably sly tune. He takes inspiration from contemporary fine art. Valentine believes in the notion that fine art and music can’t live without each other just like Cola and BigMac. In particular, ’Sly’ was inspired by fine art of Brendan Monroe, who kindly agreed to use his work for the cover. Sly provides a soft pulsating glow and naive young spirit mood, it builds into a thunderous theme full of the beauty of natural phenomena and fever. As it progresses tender synth keys emerge and the blur of a robot voice. Sly is a story about rhythmic beginnings leading to the placid, but unavoidable process of decay. She began composing electroacoustic music when she discovered the concrète music and met composers such as François Bayle and Pierre Henry in Paris. She explores sounds in many processes always in an innovative way and changing of set frequently (electric prepared bass, analog & digital synths, laptop, circuitbending…). Interested in sound physical transformation and how they change our perception of reality. She never finishes of knowing herself and full of contradictions, likes city noise but needs always to travel to a desert area in Aragon to get away from the turmoil of the world. It feels like an exchange of energy and sometimes it’s impossible to take a brake or even to make technical preparations for recording - so it must be made before you start, then you’re really free. The original magus or magi were Zoroastrian priests but in the context of DARK ROADS, the “young magus” is one who embarks on this journey into unknown terrain wherein there lies hidden knowledge and truths as well as pitfalls. The “young” magus is not necessarily a youthful person but one who hasn’t yet received such knowledge acquired from a journey like this. Each song is in itself an exorcism and an alchemical transformation. Each play of DARK ROADS FOR THE YOUNG MAGUS brings the listener one step closer to this knowledge and one step further from the realm of the safe and the known.” released January 20, 2020 Inheriting a primitive synthesizer from his late grandfather opened up a portal for Cathode Ray Tube. “I knew about synthesizers but had never played one. I loved it from day one and drove my parents nuts playing that thing loud and poorly,” says CRT aka Charles Terhune. “And I still have that keyboard and many, many more.” This device inspired a search for different music than his peers, a break from the mundane reality of life. “Pushing a machine into a place its creators never intended reveals amazing and sometimes disturbing consequences. I enjoy noise, distortion, fractured tones and the sound of things decomposing and falling apart. Though I’ve spent a lot of time trying to control my machines, recently I’ve begun to give them some simple instructions then let them loose in their own. More often than not they return with appealing, skewed and bizarre results.” CRT’s music is a blend of styles and influences, some obvious, some obscure. “I love almost all music and listen to a wide variety of styles throughout the day. Most mornings I start off with dub but within an hour I might still be listening to Keith Hudson or maybe Johnny Cash, Judas Priest or Monolake or some Ethiopian jazz like Mahmoud Ahmed followed by Roxy Music.” Listeners will no doubt hear the classic IDM and electronic influence in his music, of which some Sheffield stalwarts play a very large part. “I make no effort to disguise the fact that I worship fervently at the temple of Cabaret Voltaire and demigods Booth and Brown of the church of Autechre. Tulpa audio stories are night dance oriented psychedelic techno improvisations. Tulpa has released minimal improvisations (Tulpa - Raw) on Detroit Underground (USA). Anna is Kyma Pacarana community member and released 2 Sample banks she created in Pacarana: Kyma Inspirations Era 1 and 2. She performs in clubs and venues all over the world both as Tulpa and Dusha (where she performs with her voice). She has toured to Mexico, Japan, performed also in far distant Chill Out Planet Festival (Russia), Parvati Peaking Festival (India), Modem Festival (Croatia), Drops Festival (Slovenia), Solstice Festival (The Netherlands). The personal record of Martinova so far is 8 hours DJ set and 4 hours through live Modular improvisation. Martinova met modular synthesis when she started to perform live. In 2017 Martinova established Modular Moon | Modular Synthesis School initiative, that functions as synthesis school and a platform for Sonic exploration in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
