You start making a beat, it sounds cool but if you could compare its loudness and dynamics to something else, it would probably be the equivalent of your grandma's knowledge of a parametric EQ ; basically inexistant. The air was thick, filled with ash from an impact that has radically modified the scenery. At the surface of the Rhône, jellyfish were adjusting their perceptronic implants in order to map out this sudden modification of their environment that had become the largest crater in the history of the Jonction area. The trail of debris ran from the junction of the Rhône and Arve rivers right up to the legendary derelict factory called formerly called l’Usine, which used to be a centre for alternative arts, culture and live music. Terrified by the deafening crash of the astral body into the millennia-old building, humanoids and robots alike flocked to the smoking hole that seemed to lead straight to purgatory. Among the curious crowd, Burd Bibendaze, Salt Lake City’s infamous astral body impactology in fresh water environments specialist. The creature stopped and looked straight through Burd’s eyes and into his soul. “Hello Burd”, came a voice in his head, “My name’s Brian”. Sometime in May of this year, our friend Thomas got in touch with us once again, sending us a box of 66 hand-numbered cassettes in mismatched dusty cases along with an enigmatic letter from his home in North Rhine Westfalia. Most of the letter unfortunately consisted of incomprehensible rambling, but we were able to gather that he was delving in high-speed trading in periodic visits to Frankfurt, that he had some sort of pulmonary affliction with complications and that he wanted us to release his album before the end of 2020 no matter what. We immediately tried to get in touch with him through all traditional channels, but in the months following the package, we received no response to any of our phone calls, letters, emails and soundcloud messages. 2020 has been a complicated year for everyone, and losing all contact with our german associate has been devastating to the entire crew. Since May, all five of us have been doing all that is in our power in order to get in touch with Thomas, but he seems to have completely disappeared. His apartment is vacant with no trace of his departure, his favourite barstool in Leverkusen’s dirtiest Kneipe is gathering dust and his cellar seems to have been emptied of all of his recording equipment. We have sent our notorious alien friend Brian to comb the streets of Leverkusen, we have been looking behind every barstool in every sleazy bar in the region, we’ve even checked all local hospital and morgue records in order to find some trace of his name, but to no avail. Perhaps the most aggressive of the Brainwaves clan, Hermeth is a truly bizarre specimen with an unrivalled talent and a deep understanding of the intricacies of producing booty-shaking, face-melting, club killers. Quite easily recognisable due to his humanoid form, he has a habit of hiding his face under an old t-shirt to hide his hideous acid scars, memories of a not-so-distant past life of experimentation with mind- and body-altering substances from his home planet Methyl Alpha 303-6. Unaffected and quite unaware of the concept of social distancing, Hermeth has spent the past couple of years in his dark cellar with our close associate and unpredictable alien friend Brian, whose bizarrely successful OnlyFans page has financed the pair’s substance abuse and provided them with a regular income, a new fixture to Hermeth’s life, and a definite improvement.
