Alphamay is a synth-pop/darkwave band from Germany. It was founded in May 2012 after Frickenschmidt and Hammoor fell victim to a major car accident. The band’s name, Alphamay, reflects the date of the accident: Alpha as being the first letter of the Greek alphabet representing the number 1 and May for the month the accident occurred. Their albums Twisted Lines and The Mellow Collie both entered the top 10 of the Deutsche Alternative Charts (DAC) and received a positive review. After a period of musical experimentation and early public appearances the band published its first album II III - III III - IIII II in 2014 on Timezone Records. In this early stage live shows where already enhanced by video screens displaying custom animation and video clips for each song. The first part of the Dazzle Trilogy is the 2015 album Dazzle Camouflage. It was first presented live at this year’s Maiwoche - one of the biggest open-air street and music festivals in northern Germany. The record release showcase included extensive lighting and video walls as well as a vogue dance performance by Berlin-based dance company The House of Melody. The album was further promoted by a national tour. In 2016 Alphamay released the album Twisted Lines as the second part of the Dazzle Trilogy. The album entered the top 10 of the German Alternative Charts (DAC) twice and got positive reception by national and international press both off- and online. Two singles accompanied the release one of the singles features a cover version of "Fade to gray" by Visage as a B-Side. A series of club shows and a tour followed. In December 2016 Alphamay were awarded a second place in the category Best Elektropop-Band at Deutscher Rock and Pop Preis – awarded by the German Pop Foundation. May 2017 saw the release of the final part of the Dazzle Trilog named The Simulation Hypothesis. The single "Silence Emotion" preceded the album. The band went on an international tour and played several festival shows in support of this album. At the end of this year, Alphamay were honored by the German Pop Foundation again. They were awarded two first prizes in the categories Best Gothic/Wave Band and Best Elektropop-Band. A year after the last release, Alphamay presented the mini album The Mellow Collie (five years young). This limited edition album was also available as a music cassette as special edition (50 units). This album marks a style change toward the 90s „German Electronic Avantgarde“ and was intended as special treat for the fans. Nonetheless, it entered the top 10 of the German Alternative Charts (DAC) and received very good reviews. The album’s single „Black Parasite“ was promoted with a music video featuring renowned Brasilian Samba dancer Martinha Rainha da Bateria. After the end of the Beyond Simulation Tour the band made its first appearance at the Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, Germany, which is the world’s largest festival for dark wave / Gothic music and style. In September 2018 Alphamay released the two-track single "A Silke Bischoff Tribute" as a tribute to the late singer Felix Flaucher. This single was recorded after the band played one of his songs at live shows and fans requested the recording. Due to an unclear rights situation after the death of the singer the band was approached by parties claiming to own the rights. Alphamay decided to remove the release after a few days. The album Trans/Fusion with the release date December 10th, 2018 is a full length remix album featuring 12 remixes by other bands rooted in the German synthpop/wave culture. It is released on the German label Battersea Electric. Alphamay mixes modern Electropop and Future Pop music with elements of 80s Synth Pop and Dark Wave music. On „The Mellow Collie“ Alphamay uses the style of Electronic Avantgarde.
