The driving force behind the Edinburgh-based band is the acute artistic vision of Joe Acheson, a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, composer, music producer, sound designer and producer/presenter of radio documentaries. An intense and rewarding listening experience, “Night Walks”, encompasses the energy and production techniques of studio-produced beats, but replacing synths and drum machines with natural/acoustic sounds and instruments for an emotionally potent style. Built on contrasts - experimental without losing accessibility, electronic and acoustic, complex and simple, dark and energetic whilst intricate and calm - there is a sense of journey and progression, and, in Acheson s words, “the brooding reflections of a solitary walk through the still, restless night”. Formerly known as the Joe Acheson Quartet, Hidden Orchestra have a very eclectic fanbase, which could be born from the fact that the emphasis is on being experimental and accessible at the same time, creating music based on feeling and energy, rather than image or fashion. released September 28, 2010 A&r – Robert Luis Bass [Bass Guitar], Zither, Double Bass, Kantele, Piano, Glockenspiel, Bassoon, Guitar, Sound Designer [Sound Design], Programmed By, Recorded By [Field Recordings], Written-by, Producer, Recorded By, Liner Notes – Joe Acheson Cello – Su-a Lee Design [Cover Image Etching By] – Norman Ackroyd Design, Typography – Steve Sawyer Drums – Jamie Graham Drums, Trombone – Tim Lane French Horn, Cornet – Marcus Britton Management [Label] – Paul Jonas, Robert Luis Mastered By – Andy 'Hippy' Baldwin Recorded By [Most Drums Recorded With] – James Locke Soprano Saxophone, Low Whistle, Kaval – Fraser Fifield Violin, Viola, Piano, Electric Piano [Wurlitzer], Electric Piano [Rhodes] – Poppy Ackroyd Cover image titled: "The Sound of Mull (detail)" Most drums recorded at Mission Hall Studios in Leith. Following the release of their 10,000 selling debut, ‘Night Walks’, their intricate yet viscerally emotive and energetic sound has won them critical acclaim and a diverse fanbase, from bass and hip hop heads to jazz and classical aficionados to rock fans. The core quartet of Hidden Orchestra is formed around the duelling drum kits, percussion and electronic pads of two drummers, Tim Lane and Jamie Graham, completed by Poppy Ackroyd’s distinctive, multi-faceted violin and piano playing and Joe Acheson’s bass and original samples. Hidden Orchestra have seen their star rise steadily and emphatically since the release of their debut, with an organic buzz building as they have toured their highly in-demand live show almost non-stop through over 20 countries, in addition to tour support stints for the likes of Bonobo. released October 9, 2012 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Аудиокодек: FLAC (*.flac)

Rich in detail and character, these snapshots intertwine with bass, drums, percussion and eclectic instruments - including piano, electro-harp, zither, Turkish mey and cello - for an emotive and transporting listen that Acheson describes as “a kind of personal audio diary, time capsule or memoir”. Each track on the album is set to a different one of Acheson’s dawn chorus recordings, these magical snippets of nature providing effects both percussive and melodic, and sparking evocative journeys. Album opener “First Light” features the first ever full dawn chorus that Acheson recorded, on a 5am walk in December 2009 amid a blanket of crisp snow. “Listening to an old field recording is like looking at an old photo”, says Acheson; “Close your eyes, and you're immediately transported to the time and place you made it. I remember exactly how I felt and what I was doing, who I was with, my full surroundings”. All the elements of this deeply personal album draw links to Acheson’s past travels, homes and projects in some way. A dripping drainpipe in Innsbruck, an extractor fan in Tallinn, and wildlife in the Outer Hebrides, sit alongside cutlery, crockery and a fizzing gin and tonic in Brighton. Excerpts from sessions with many musicians include core Hidden Orchestra players Poppy Ackroyd, Tim Lane and Jamie Graham, as well as harpist Mary MacMaster, cellist Su-a Lee, and clarinettist Floex, their influences ranging from Shetland folk music to abstract experimental soundtrack work. Woven into the fabric of the music are ideas and extracts from tracks that Acheson has written over the last twenty years. Some were originally conceived for commissions: the heavily percussive and playful “Serpentine” was written for BBC Radio 3 and the Serpentine gallery, and features noises from an exhibit being set up as well as water, horses and birds in Hyde Park. “The Lizard” builds on 2016’s “Marconi & The Lizard” EP, born of an artist residency at radio pioneer Guglielmo Marconi’s hut on Cornwall’s Lizard Point, which was commissioned by The National Trust and British Library; radio static mingles with a dawn chorus recorded by Acheson at the hotel where Marconi had stayed before him in 1900. On “Long Orchard”, Acheson achieves a poignant feat of sonic time travel: “My uncle is playing my grandmother’s piano (in the left speaker), recorded by my father on a domestic reel-to-reel machine in 1966; I am playing the same parts (in the right speaker), recorded on the same piano almost exactly fifty years later, just before it was sold at auction”, he explains. Another vintage accent comes from the British Library Sound Archive, with a 1947 recording of a wren that closes the album with a crackle on “East London Street”, named for his old studio address in Edinburgh where Hidden Orchestra began. released June 16, 2017 foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Аудиокодек: FLAC (*.flac)

Fronted by “Wingbeats (Max Cooper Remix)”, ‘Dawn Chorus Remixes’ features reworkings from Max Cooper, Matthew Herbert, Throwing Snow, The Physics House Band, Nuage, Floex, Nostalgia 77, Wrongtom and Skalpel. Built around a collection of birdsong and other field recordings captured over many years across diverse locations around the UK and abroad, the snapshots within ‘Dawn Chorus’ intertwine for a transporting listen. The ‘Dawn Chorus Remixes’ album revisits this vast source material, reinterpreting the structure of the tracks and uncovering new layers of hidden sounds and instruments for the listeners, sometimes unearthing entire musical progressions that bring the tracks into clearer focus. Max Cooper provides his take on Wingbeats, focussing on the synchronised recordings of birds beating their wings, to reveal a beautiful chord structure hidden amongst the rhythms. Matthew Herbert applies intricate electronic components with a purist house beat on “Stone” which follows into “The Lizard”, remixed by Polish duo Skalpel who were an early influence of Acheson’s. Electronic producer Floex transforms ‘Still’ with layers of oscillating synths, while Wrongtom provides a dub remix and The Physics House Band deliver ambient and progressive sounds for their rework of “Long Orchard”. released January 26, 2018 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Аудиокодек: FLAC (*.flac)

Recorded at the interdisciplinary arts hub, Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) - an esteemed venue in Joe’s hometown - ‘Live at ACCA’ showcases Hidden Orchestra at their creative peak, performing an audio-visual blinder that combines immersive visuals, live dub effects, dark orchestral textures and beat-driven, bass-heavy walls of sound. After a dizzying decade of gigs that included an eight-piece show at the Royal Albert Hall and sell out AV shows at London Union’s Chapel, St-John-at-Hackney, and the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Acheson felt it was time for Hidden Orchestra to capture and release a live album. The recordings feature the core quartet of the live band - comprised of Joe Acheson on bass and live electronics, Poppy Ackroyd (One Little Indian) on piano and violin, and the two drummers, Tim Lane and Jamie Graham acting as a percussion powerhouse — joined by visual artist Tom Newell of Limbic Cinema. Performing live on stage, Tom improvises and manipulates footage, live cameras and triggered lights, creating a truly enthralling and cinematic experience. released May 3, 2019 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Аудиокодек: FLAC (*.flac)

Hidden Orchestra - The Revival (4:41) This new collection of Joe Acheson's 'Reorchestrations' (including two previously unreleased tracks) takes works by exceptional experimental/classical/folk musicians as source material, and passes them through Joe's studio where they are intricately reworked with the signature Hidden Orchestra composition and production techniques. The result is a cohesive new Hidden Orchestra album, consisting of tracks produced since 2012, and representing the best of the music to come out of Joe's studio since the last full Hidden album 'Archipelago'. Densely textured, the tracks are beat-driven, sophisticatedly chopped and reprogrammed - delicate classical textures and field recordings with deep bass and complex layers of acoustic drums. Unlike many remixes, these sensitive and non-destructive 'Reorchestrations' mostly leave the original track intact, and add layers of rhythms and notes which extend the arrangements and subvert the harmonies of the original tracks – resulting in expansive augmented reinterpretations rather than complete reworkings. This release is the first volume in a series of Reorchestrations albums. The project started with a remix of Liverpool band Kinetic Fallacy - which eventually became the track The Revival when Kinetic Fallacy disbanded, and has since become a staple encore of Hidden Orchestra live performances - hence its inclusion as the final track on this release. The two unreleased tracks are reworkings of members of the Hidden Orchestra live ensemble – Poppy Ackroyd (violin/piano), and Mary Macmaster (harps). There are also remixes of Hidden collaborator and occasional live guest clarinettist Tomas Dvorak (AKA Floex), Russian producer Long Arm, Anglo-French duo Piano Interrupted, and Czech clarinet quartet Clarinet Factory. Hidden Orchestra is the solo studio project of multi-instrumentalist composer/producer Joe Acheson. This 'electronic music by acoustic means' project has steadily gained a broad and diverse cult following since the release of albums 'Night Walks' (2010) and 'Archipelago' (2012) on Tru Thoughts Records and Denovali Records, and touring in over 30 countries with the acclaimed live band (featuring pianist/violinist Poppy Ackroyd, double drummers Jamie Graham and Tim Lane, plus regular live guests and visual artists). released June 26, 2015 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Аудиокодек: FLAC (*.flac)

Hidden Orchestra - The Windfall (The Colonel Remix) (6:27) 24Bit The “Flight” EP, out digitally on 7th November, is the second single from Edinburgh based quartet Hidden Orchestra, who released their stunning debut album ‘Night Walks’ on Tru Thoughts in September 2010, and have seen their star continue to rise in the intervening year with an ever-growing media and word-of-mouth buzz. Highly in demand as a live act, their touring schedule this year alone has taken in 20 countries as their incredible music has worked its way into hearts and minds the World over. This EP brings eagerly anticipated new material and remixes. Glastonbury Festival 2011 saw Hidden Orchestra debut an augmented 10-piece line up, as well as being interviewed live on BBC 6Music by Shaun Keaveny and Cerys Matthews, who was so taken with the band she has booked them for a live 6Music session on 6th November. The regular quartet is formed around the duelling drum kits, percussion and electronic pads of drummers Tim Lane and Jamie Graham, and completed with the piano and violin of Poppy Ackroyd and the bass and samples of bandleader and composer Joe Acheson. The result is explosive, percussive, and resplendent with layers of intense soundscapes that take audiences on a deeply original sonic journey containing elements of jazz, classical, drum ‘n’ bass, rock and hip hop, moulded into a coherent whole. Giving fans a window into the astonishing musical mind that drives this band, Acheson has put out three studio mixtapes this year, and these impeccably honed promo mixes have had over 50,000 downloads and counting. The first official release of brand new material since the album came out, “Flight” was developed in part for a BBC Radio 4 documentary about flying carpets (!) called "The Magic Carpet Flight Manual"; it was for this that Acheson - also a Sony-nominated radio producer - created the magic carpet flying sound effects you hear in the track. It has evolved into this intense and transporting piece which, at almost eight minutes long, explores a dubby avenue with a strong half-time feel running against a faster double-time context. Dotted rhythms in the kicks and snares and an occasional bass wobble interplay with acoustic basses and percussion including castanets, metal pipes, snare drums and ride cymbals. The jazz influence that often characterises Hidden Orchestra’s work is barely there, giving way to a very strong folk feel. Acheson expands: “This track is the strongest testimony yet to the eleven years I have been living in Scotland - you can hear the folk influence creeping into the melodies, harmonies, and instrumentation.” Harpist Mary Macmaster features heavily in the track, playing the clarsach - a traditional Scottish wire-strung harp. A legendary figure of the Scottish live folk scene, Mary has performed with Hidden Orchestra a number of times this year including Glastonbury Festival, North Sea Jazz, Edinburgh Jazz Festival and Insider Festival. “Flight” also features the band’s two most regular live guests reprising their appearances on ‘Night Walks’ - Su-a Lee (cello) and Fraser Fifield (low whistle and soprano sax) – and in addition plays host to a cameo appearance on clarinet from the celebrated Czech producer Tomáš Dvořák (aka Floex, who also created the remix of “Dust” for this release). The promo also includes a Radio Edit of “Flight”, and in addition to “Dust (Floex remix)” the release features three new remixes: previous single “Footsteps” is given a beautiful reworking by Lost Twin, and “The Windfall” receives the treatment from both Maddslinky (aka Zed Bias) and The Colonel. The single is also out on 10” vinyl, care of Denovali Records. A limited pressing includes exclusive "no-drums" and "drums-only" versions of “Flight” – a unique idea borne of the fact that the drums in Hidden Orchestra are such a feature that they stand up on their own; conversely, it brings forward the layers of orchestration occasionally lost to the thickness of the drum textures. The artwork for “Flight” is one of Acheson’s favourite works by Norman Ackroyd, who also made the etching used for “Night Walks”. released November 7, 2011 Artwork – Norman Ackroyd Cello – Su-a Lee Clarinet – Tomáš Dvořák Drums – Jamie Graham, Tim Lane Harp – Mary Macmaster Mastered By – Paul O'Brien Soprano Saxophone, Whistling – Fraser Fifield Violin – Poppy Ackroyd Written-By, Recorded By, Producer, Sounds, Kantele, Glockenspiel, Programmed By – Joe Acheson Mastered At – Pobaudio Mastering Published By – Full Thought Publishing foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Аудиокодек: FLAC (*.flac)

Hidden Orchestra - Reminder (Long Arm Remix) (4:57) Out on a limited edition, hand-numbered and signed double 10” vinyl, the “Archipelago Remixes EP” by Hidden Orchestra is a real treat, with reworks from King Britt, DC Breaks, Kelpe and Long Arm providing a fresh spin on tracks from 2012’s hugely acclaimed ‘Archipelago’ album. Highly intricate and beat-heavy, the Hidden Orchestra originals are an adventure playground for any remixer, and the results from this eclectic array of talent are stunning and intriguing in equal measure. The DC Breaks Remix of “Vorka” sees the pair of Andy C protégés twisting the ethereal beauty of this track, which originally came out as the second single. Possibly the only drum ‘n’ bass track to feature a hook played on a musical saw? On the flip, King Britt’s Remix of “Vorka” finds the revered DJ and globetrotting musical multi-tasker turning the same original into a slow-burning house cut, with added vocal hooks. The second 10” opens with Fourth Wall (Kelpe Remix). Slowing the tempo and upping the oddball factor, London based producer Kelpe, whose fans include Huw Stephens (BBC R1) and Tom Ravenscroft (6Music), strips back bandleader Joe Acheson’s dramatically layered composition and rebuilds it with the highly original rhythmic style that has established him as a heavyweight talent. “Reminder” is reworked into a high definition ambient soundscape by Long Arm (Project Mooncircle) whose jazz-influenced style has had major props from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs and Gilles Peterson. Since its release in late 2012, the ‘Archipelago’ LP has gained heavy press support including Q, Clash, The Independent, BBC Music, The Scotsman, The Line of Best Fit and Wax Poetics. This mesmerising music has also hooked daytime and specialist radio tastemakers alike, with play from Stuart Maconie, Lauren Laverne, Gilles Peterson, Cerys Matthews, Nemone and Huey Morgan on BBC 6Music; as well as Ally McCrae (BBC R1 Introducing), John Kennedy (XFM), Goldierocks (Selector), Late Junction (BBC R3) and Jamie Cullum (BBC R2). The first single from the LP was “Flight”, which has now had a staggering 850,000 Soundcloud streams; “Vorka” followed, further highlighting the band’s genre-defying appeal with a premiere on The Line Of Best Fit. The third single “Fourth Wall” was highlighted by Lauren Laverne as a ‘Headphone Moment’, and also saw BBC 6Music colleagues Gideon Coe and Tom Robinson joining the ranks of fans in high places. The brainchild of producer and composer Acheson, Hidden Orchestra is a studio project of distinction and depth, utilising an array of sonic sources including found sounds alongside a boundless range of instruments. In the live arena the music is taken to a new sphere; the core quartet is formed around the duelling drum kits, percussion and electronic pads of Tim Lane and Jamie Graham, completed by Poppy Ackroyd’s multi-faceted violin and piano playing and Acheson’s bass and original samples. Ever in-demand, Hidden Orchestra have completed two tours of the UK and Europe in the last six months alone, and are set to tour a newly developed full AV spectacular, following a huge show at the Forum, London on 29th June, and a busy festival season. released August 7, 2013 Phonographic Copyright (p) – Tru Thoughts Copyright © – Tru Thoughts Published By – Full Thought Publishing Published By – Cosmic Lounge Music Mastered At – Metropolis Studios Pressed By – MPO A&R – Robert Luis Management [Label] – Paul Jonas Mastered By – Andy "Hippy" Baldwin ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Аудиокодек: FLAC (*.flac)

Hidden Orchestra - Spoken (KRTS Remix) (5:17) The second in the Archipelago Remixes EP series brings more stunning new versions of tracks from Hidden Orchestra’s second album, ‘Archipelago’. Established and rising stars - Dam Mantle, Mungo’s Hi Fi, Floex, submerse and KRTS – work their magic on producer and band-leader Joe Acheson’s original productions, across two 10” records in a hand-stamped and numbered sleeve, limited to 500 units worldwide. The first Archipelago Remixes EP, which dropped in 2013, gained major props from the likes of Record Collector, Clash, The Line Of Best Fit, DJ Mag, Urb and more, quickly flying off the shelves; the Edinburgh based outfit have since continued to push forwards, with developments including a new live AV show which saw them sell out venues including London’s Scala. In anticipation of the next EP, Acheson has crafted the immersive ‘Archipelago Remixes Mixtape’, recently premiered by The 405, with Part 2 to follow soon. Testament to an incredible musical mind, his Hidden Orchestra studio mixes have had 100,000+ streams to date, gaining in adulation with each instalment. Opening the first 10” is “Seven Hunters (Dam Mantle Mix)”, which brings a noir-ish intensity to the original, a firm fan favourite. The Glasgow based Notown/Wichita signed producer re-programmes the original drums, creating a sense of space and suspense, and eliciting admiration from Acheson, whose heavily layered organic beats are an integral part of the stirring Hidden Orchestra sound, even requiring two kits in the live show: “it's the kind of way I treat drum recordings in my own work, so it's really nice to hear it done to my drum tracks”. “Flight (Mungo's Hi Fi Remix)” sees an eagerly awaited hook-up with the Scottish crew, of whom Acheson has long been a fan, having partied at - and played on - Mungos’ legendary soundsystem at Knockengorroch Festival. Here they transform the intricate, folk-influenced “Flight” (which boasts almost a million soundcloud plays) for a bass-heavy dub dancefloor, while skilfully retaining snapshots of the original orchestration and atmosphere. “Disquiet (Floex Remix)” finds Floex returning the favour for a Hidden Orchestra mix of his own latest single. This charged, hypnotic version shows the dancier, more electronic side of the Czech clarinettist and producer’s work; twisting and heightening existing sounds, not least the heavenly harp solo, for an epic effect. Floex’s second official Hidden Orchestra remix, this adds to a growing list of joint ventures from these two like-minded creators. Two artists from Berlin’s Project Mooncircle label - London based submerse, and Brooklyn’s KRTS (the latter with a bonus digital cut) – remix “Spoken”, each ramping up the strikingly percussive intro and spiralling down a different yet equally fascinating experimental electronic bass music path. Following their well-received debut, ‘Night Walks’, Hidden Orchestra’s 2012 ‘Archipelago’ LP gained heavy press support, including Q, Clash, The Independent, BBC Music, The Scotsman and Wax Poetics. This mesmerising music also hooked daytime and specialist BBC 6Music tastemakers including Stuart Maconie, Lauren Laverne, Gilles Peterson and Cerys Matthews; plus BBC R1 Introducing, John Kennedy (XFM), Late Junction (BBC R3) and Jamie Cullum (BBC R2). Rich in detail and character, field recordings intertwine with drums, percussion and eclectic instruments including piano, electro-harp, glockenspiel, Turkish mey and cello. “Wingbeats” lands in the run-up to Hidden Orchestra’s appearance at the Royal Albert Hall (22nd Nov) with Roots Manuva, Andreya Triana and Henry Wu – a milestone that builds on a dizzying run of gigs this decade, from sellout AV shows at London’s Union Chapel and St John at Hackney to hundreds of headlines and festivals at home and abroad. The first new Hidden Orchestra material to emerge from Acheson’s studio in four years, this unique EP follows the ‘Night Walks’ (2010) and ‘Archipelago’ (2012) albums, which established the beat-heavy and multi-layered sound as a favourite with music fans of all stripes, gaining praise everywhere from The Independent to XLR8R to BBC 6Music. With official remixes flowing in from top producers including submerse, Mungo’s Hi Fi and Floex, Hidden Orchestra’s reworks of other artists include a notable commission for Bryan Ferry’s ‘Avonmore (The Remix Album)’. Anticipation for new music has also been stoked by hugely popular mixtapes, side-projects, and incendiary live shows boasting the might of two full drum kits. “Wingbeats” sees Acheson leaning further into experimental, neo-classical ground, showcasing his musicianship while intriguingly laying bare his personal artistic processes. In his descriptive sleeve notes for this deluxe 12” vinyl - which also features an exclusive print from revered artist Norman Ackroyd on its cover - Acheson elaborates: “For as long as I can remember, I have found that what draws me to a piece of music can often be one small detail – a single characteristic or maybe a fleeting moment of beautiful sound or compelling rhythm… So, for a Hidden Orchestra composition I often create lots of individual source pieces – orchestral sketches, drum arrangements, solo instrumental improvisations, manipulated field recordings – and pick out bits to reinterpret as samples with which to write a full track, combining and arranging them to create an imaginary orchestra”. Although written for sampling, the pieces included on the “Wingbeats” EP stand on their own as individual compositions, striking elements coming to the fore in each one. And each source track tells a story: of birds fluttering in to feed on crumbs in a rural British garden, or flocking in a hedge in the snow in the French Alps; of an imaginary string orchestra; of a suspenseful, early-hours piano jam; of a spot of instrument shopping in Istanbul while on tour; of a sleepy village engulfed by an exhilarating early-morning dawn chorus, rounded off with church bells. In addition to multi-instrumentalist Acheson, exquisite musicianship on the EP comes from regular Hidden Orchestra drummers Tim Lane and Jamie Graham, pianist/violinist Poppy Ackroyd and long-time collaborators including harpist Mary Macmaster, cellist/saw player Su-a Lee and Czech bass clarinettist Jiri Javurek. A sonic experimenter and nature enthusiast, Acheson has always captured field recordings and found sounds to incorporate in his Hidden Orchestra music, as well as using them in his award-winning work as a radio producer and soundtrack composer, and the last year has seen him taking this to intriguing new extremes with “Marconi & The Lizard” – an EP born of an artist residency at Cornwall’s Lizard Point, commissioned by The National Trust and British Library. Released under the Joe Acheson solo name, this project was greeted with features in The Guardian and The Independent and radio support from Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music) and Late Junction (BBC R3), creating even more interest in Acheson’s exciting musical explorations in the run-up to the “Wingbeats” EP. released November 11, 2016 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Аудиокодек: FLAC (*.flac)

Hidden Orchestra - Still (No Drums Version) (4:44) “You could just listen to that forevermore, couldn’t you?” – MARY ANNE HOBBS (BBC 6MUSIC) “Still” single brings the next glimpse of Hidden Orchestra's eagerly awaited third album The 'Dawn Chorus' LP, a highly personal yet expansive work from producer and composer Joe Acheson, is built around a collection of birdsong and other field recordings captured across many years in diverse locations around the UK and abroad. Rich in detail and character, these sonic snapshots intertwine with layers of bass, drums, percussion and eclectic instruments - including piano, electro-harp, glockenspiel, Turkish mey, clarinet and cello - for an emotive and transporting listen. Opening with a percussive loop made from the sound of a fisherman weaving a traditional lobster pot in Cornwall, and building into a dramatic and dynamic, beat-laden sounscape, “Still” is formed around a musical sketch contributed by Czech quartet Clarinet Factory (Jindřich Pavliš, Luděk Boura, Vojtěch Nýdl and Petr Valášek). Among excerpts of this atmospheric recording, Acheson added layers of drums, strings, brass, piano and field recordings. Flitting in and out of earshot – its effects both percussive and melodic - is a dawn chorus, recorded in a park near Acheson's current home in Brighton on International Dawn Chorus Day (May 1st) 2016. Bonus track “Still (No Drums Version)” brings an alternate take, with certain elements stripped away to place the delicate drama of the clarinet composition centre-stage. This track brings echoes of the “Wingbeats EP”, on which Acheson presented six of his original source compositions that fed into the creation of the lead track, offering up a fresh and intriguing musical experience and illuminating the fascinating intricacy of his creative process, to the delight of fans and tastemakers alike. A lifelong sonic experimenter and nature enthusiast, Joe Acheson has always captured field recordings and found sounds to incorporate in his Hidden Orchestra music, as well as using them in his award-winning work as a radio producer and soundtrack composer. Hidden Orchestra - East London Street (No Drums Version) (3:59) 03. Hidden Orchestra - East London Street (Drums Only Version) (2:42) “East London Street” is the next single to be lifted from Hidden Orchestra’s third studio album, ‘Dawn Chorus’, which came out in June. Although Acheson is now based in Brighton, “East London Street” is named after his old studio address in Edinburgh where Hidden Orchestra began. The dawn chorus at the centre of this track was recorded at that studio window in 2014. “Hearing it reminds me of the gardens I used to look down on from my studio, and of all the times and places and people that I associate most strongly with my years in Scotland”, he reflects; “And then it reminds me of the pigeons that sat on my windowsill”. Blending naturally with the wrens of the Edinburgh recording, the track finishes with a crackly 1947 recording of a wren made by Danish wildlife recording pioneer Carl Weismann (c/o the British Library Sound Archive). These natural sounds are joined by arresting drumbeats and delicate instrumentation featuring a stirring cello melody played by regular collaborator Su-a Lee. Bonus tracks “East London Street (No Drums Version)” and “East London Street (Drums Only Version)” bring to light some of the more subtle details and textures. The charming fluidity of the No Drums Version makes room for glimpses of rousing choral elements, while placing the cello centre-stage alongside mellifluous trumpet. By contrast, the intensity of the Drums Only Version shows Acheson’s skill in composing and manipulating live drums to create complex and emotive rhythms. The bonus pieces continue the theme established on last November’s “Wingbeats EP”, the first release in the ‘Dawn Chorus’ project, on which Acheson presented six of his original source compositions that fed into the creation of the lead track, offering up a fresh and intriguing perspective on his fascinating creative process. released September 22, 2017 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Аудиокодек: FLAC (*.flac)

Hidden Orchestra - Wingbeats (Max Cooper Remix Edit) (4:39) Beautifully complex, “Wingbeats” features rich orchestral layers of a piano, cello, glockenspiel and organic snippets of field recordings woven into the finer details of the track, each one telling a different story. The sound of birds fluttering in to feed on crumbs in a rural British garden become the bass drum emerging from an imaginary string orchestra built from layers of Su-a Lee’s soaring cello, while a suspenseful, early-hours piano jam is accompanied by the breathy tones of the Turkish Mey, an instrument Acheson picked up on tour in Istanbul. The dawn chorus featured in “Wingbeats” was recorded in 2014 from the window of the house he grew up in in Sussex, and the 5am toll of nearby church bells can be heard towards the end of the recording. The cohesive percussion running throughout the track began as fast, scattered patterns recorded by Jamie Graham which Acheson took to build a drum arrangement, selecting loops of hats, snares and rides, before interweaving Tim Lane’s tight backbeats and loose, washy ride cymbals. Remixing the track, Max Cooper shifts the focus in line with these layers and playful arrangements, creating an intricate sound with depth. “I liked the idea that there is some sort of computational frayed edge”, Cooper explains; “It sounds like real recordings at a glance, but a closer look at the forms has something weird going on in there”. In his reorientation, Cooper builds a motif around the beautiful chord structure hidden within the original, which is teased between excursions into live instrumental jams and a tremendous chord sequence. released December 8, 2017 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Аудиокодек: FLAC (*.flac)

Joe Acheson - Storms And Foghorns (National Trust Edit) (4:13) 6th May sees the release of Joe Acheson’s “Marconi & The Lizard” EP, recorded during a sound residency in Cornwall in August 2015 which was commissioned by the National Trust for their Sounds of our Shores project in partnership with the British Library. In 1900, radio pioneer Guglielmo Marconi built a hut at Cornwall’s Lizard Point - the southernmost tip of the UK mainland - to experiment with sending radio signals over long distances; it was in that hut that the first ever ship-to-shore SOS signal was received. Last summer, composer and producer Joe Acheson, mainly known for his acclaimed work as Hidden Orchestra, spent a week there for the National Trust's first ever sound artist residency (as reported by The Guardian, The Independent and BBC One’s Countryfile) and Marconi & The Lizard is the fascinating result. Entirely created from natural sounds and man-made noises recorded in the hut and the surrounding landscape, the music on this evocative EP somehow has an electronic feel; the tracks are alive with pulse, natural glitch, deep sub and a richly-textured atmosphere. released May 6, 2016 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Для того, чтобы скачать .torrent Вам необходимо зарегистрироваться |
