"Seam Line" or "Kav HateFer" in Hebrew, is the term used by Israelis to describe the geographical boundary between the Israeli and Palestinian areas.
As in life, with all the dynamic complexities of the region, the group "Kav Hatefer" incorporates many eclectic and intertwining styles of music. Established by Kobi Hagoel in 1995, with a fusion of tastes from the Middle East, the Balkans, North Africa, India and Persia, mixed with jazz and rock, the group has since performed all over Israel in clubs, festivals and on Israeli television. The music was written by Kobi Hagoel, Asi Givati and Harel Shachal.
The lyrics are gibberish which are improvised live on stage by Kobi Hagoel. Kobi says: "Many words have been said since the beginning of human-kind we have all the answers but we are still confused". Asi Givati: (guitar, ud, vocals). Born in Israel 1969. Studied music in Israel for many years. Took part in many rock and ethnic projects. Lived and studied in L.A. and New-York for a few years and performed in many of the clubs there. He's currently a member of the very successful Israeli rock group- "Shotey Hanevua". Hadas Goldschmidt Halfon: (saxophone, violin). Born in Israel 1967. Started playing classical violin at the age of 7 and saxophone at 13. Received her M.A. degree in composition from the "Rubin Music Academy" in Jerusalem and B.A. (Big Band) from the "Chicago Academy of Modem Music" (full scholarship). Has been teaching privately and in conservatories and performing her compositions such as her Oboe Quartet and piano Sonata which was broadcast on Israeli radio. David Otterman: (bass, vocals, synth, junk percussion). Born in the U.S.A. 1960. A self taught musician and singer/songwriter who played the club circuit in upstate N.Y. during the 80's. He also currently plays in his rock group "The Kykes". Harel Shachal: (saxophone, tubephone). Born in Tel-Aviv 1971. Studied in "Rimon" music school, composition and illustration from Ofer Brayer, ethnic music from Albert Piamenta. Saxophonist and composer Harel Shachal is an active player both in the jazz and Middle Eastern scenes in N.Y. Harel is a member of Kokolo Afro bit orchestra and many other jazz bands working in N.Y. and he plays in venues such as the Knitting Factory, Joe's Pub, Vinel and more. Harel Shachal has his B.A. degree in Performing jazz from the New School (studied on scholarship) where he studied with teachers like Jane Ira Bloom, Jamie Hadad, Goerge Garzone, and Billy Harper. Currently living and making music in N.Y. Kobi Hagoel: (voice compositions, gibberish, darbuka (Mideast goblet drum), zarb (Persian wood goblet drum), daf; bindir& riq (frame drums), udu drum (clay jar), chimes and bells. Born in Israel 1962. Played from childhood darbuka. A self taught musician from listening and meeting senior musicians from different origins, among them: The late Yaacov Morad, Yosef Yaacov Shem-Tov. Studied zarb from Yaacov Lev- Sameah. 1986 finished acting studies, and worked since as an actor. After 10 years of acting and playing, the music became his major occupation. Collaborated with Israeli musicians as well as musicians from abroad, among them: Yair Dalai (Al Ol C.D. 1995), Sheva (Celestial Wedding 1997) Serenity with Givan Gaspayan Ans. Amir Perlman 2000. Simfoniat Raanana (classical), Yehudit Tamir (singer), Menashe Sasson (Persian santur), Moris Al Madyuni, Omar Faruk Tekbilek (Turkey), Givan Gasparyan (Armenia), Flisham Abu Mayeteq (Jordan). On T.V. Channel 2: "The Way of darbuka". A documentary musical journey program- directed: Eitan Vetzler. A member of the "East West Ensemble", "Esfahan Ensemble" (C.D. Golbar 2000 - Nada records- Persian music). A teacher and researcher. Wrote a book about the art of rhythms that includes more than 300 different meters from North Africa to the Middle East to Balkans till Persia. Tiran Bublil - (Ney - Mideast bamboo flute, darbuka, Moroccan bindir, djembe). Born in Israel 1969 studied M.E. Percussion with Kobi Hagoel and Ramzi Basharat, ney from Albert Elyas (famous ney player that was born in Iraq) Amit Carmeli: (bass, ud, head trumpet, Moroccan bindir, vocals). A member of "Shotey Hanevua" and "Sheket Tak".
