THE GUARDIAN DIALECTIK ‘Dialectik' features their debut single, ‘Sunshine’ that came with three distinct remixes from the likes of Jazzanova’s Alexander Barck & Comixxx, LA’s Thirftworks and Netherlands Julien Mier. This was followed by 2nd single, ‘Kelby’, accompanied by a stunning video titled, ‘Chase’, from director Lily Baldwin and starring model Edie Charles. The band recently featured on Berlin artist Robot Koch’s haunting track, ‘Spine released on Monkeytown Records. They recently re-worked his new track, ‘Heart as a River’, out now Fassine have a keen ear for the cinematic, with their songs featuring as the backdrop of high-profile American TV drama’s: including Sky Atlantic’s 'The Following', Fox’s 'Lucifer',Sony’s 'The Art Of More' & more. Lyrically dark and musically complex: the group has a hint of Trent Reznor’s influence, alongside other cinematic and lyrical qualities of UNKLE and the minimalistic bent of Berlin-era Bowie. Fassine’s sound is one of striking imagery that dares the listener to enter the group’s own stark world. Both singles above set the tone perfectly for their debut album, inspired by the typical British, cold and austere oppressive atmosphere breathed into 1970’s and 80’s TV dramas. Such dramas included: 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy' and 'Edge Of Darkness', which were built in these vast settings with great distance. Connecting the dots, however, were all the tiny conversations. Fassine have just released their second album ‘Gourami’ on Default Collective Records. The London trio made a name for themselves last year with their icy, cinematic take on electronic music for ‘Dialectik - a debut album that saw them gain praise & support from the likes of Spin, Q Magazine, The 405, The Guardian, Giles Peterson, BBC 6 Music and more. “We wanted a departure from the darkness of Dialectik. We began writing this during the release of our debut and we wanted it to be something very different. Gourami is a far more organic, human work; with a focus on songs rather than soundscapes. We wanted to create a mood that was simultaneously uplifting but introspective”. The first single to be premiered from the album was 'Feather Jesus’, the track was released earlier than expected due to an overwhelming response from people around the world after hearing the song on Fox’s hit show Lucifer. ’The overwhelming reaction to the song was wonderful; we wanted to release it early as a ‘Thank You'. 'Feather Jesus’ is about death & loss and how people cope, celebrate and even embrace it’. The second single was a heavy, industrial re-working of ‘That Wave’ an original by the band XTC, taken from the album Nonsuch, the band and their version of the track will be featuring on the new XTC documentary aired later this year on SKY ARTS. ’We are big fans of XTC and 'That Wave’ is a song so overflowing with ideas that we fell in love with it .The original has a wave-like feel and we wanted to see if we could do that too but in a much more chaotic and stormy fashion.’ The third single, Ursa Minor is an ode to David Bowie and is featured on Clash Magazine.
