Continuing with our Roland SH-101 themed artwork, RX-101’s “EP 3” (suction040) pairs the 101 with it’s acidic little brother, the infamous TB-303. There’s been a lot of renewed interest and hype surrounding the revival of acid techno in recent years, but RX-101’s acid offerings are not the slow ’n slinky variety favoured by most of today’s acid revivalists…. Instead, “EP 3” contains 6 tracks of crunchy, blown out, high-octane rave acid… Long-time AFX/Rephlex fans will recognize the sound immediately - the 6 tracks found on “EP 3” are eerily reminiscent of those sought-after Rephlex classics, the Universal Indicator series of 12”s - released anonymously by Aphex Twin and his Kosmic Kommando on Rephlex from 1992-1995. “EP 3” is limited to 500 copies, with 150 copies on yellow vinyl, available as a Suction-direct-order exclusive. released June 20, 2017

Title: EP 4
Label / CAT#: Suction Records / suction041
Format: 12” vinyl / digital EP
Release Date: December 8, 2017 Suction Records is proud to present the 4th and final volume of RX-101’s “EP” series of vinyl releases, showcasing a selection of standout cuts from Dutch producer Erik Jong’s vast archive of previously-unreleased techno, IDM, acid, and electro, recorded to cassette from 1997-1999. Roland’s cover-star instruments, the SH-101 and Juno-106, play a prominent role in EP 4’s sound - a playful mix of joyous, sometimes haunting synthesizer melodies, and raw, crunchy percussion. From the early-Squarepusher melodies of opener Themis, to the eerie Boards of Canada-like nostalgia of Transmission, EP 4 delivers 6 tracks of classic late-90s electronix, with RX-101 affirming himself as an unheralded master in the Rephlex/Warp/Skam domain. released December 8, 2017

Title: Transmission
Label / CAT#: Suction Records / suction042
Format: CD / digital full-length
Release Date: December 8, 2017 Suction Records is proud to present the 2nd full-length release from RX-101, showcasing a selection of standout cuts from Dutch producer Erik Jong’s vast archive of previously-unreleased techno, IDM, acid, and electro, recorded to cassette from 1997-1999. As with RX-101’s 2016 debut LP, Like Yesterday, which was compiled from his 1st two vinyl EPs, Transmission compiles material from his recent 12”s, EP 3 and EP 4, adding four bonus exclusive tracks. Mixing the high-octane, fuzzed out 303 acid techno of EP 3 with the crunchy, melodic electro and IDM of EP 4, Transmission emerges as a fierce, yet surprisingly cohesive journey into late ‘90s electronix, and belongs in the collection of any discerning fan of Warp Records’ or Aphex Twin’s celebrated ’90s catalogs. * from EP 3 (suction040 12”)

In fact, we’ve been holding back this special batch of melodic, chilled out techno and electronica for “Dopamine,” RX-101’s first full-length vinyl LP. Dopamine (suction047) is a cohesive body of work with clear references to Aphex Twin’s “Selected Ambient Works 85-92”, Polygon Window’s “Surfing on Sine Waves”, and Warp Records’ “Artificial Intelligence” series. For those of you new to the story, RX-101 is Dutch producer Erik Jong, who recorded hundreds of top-tier AFX/Rephlex-style tracks to cassette tape from 1997-1999, but never sent out any demos (“I didn’t think my own tracks were good enough, or feel the need to share my tracks with others. I simply wanted to make music without any pretension or specific purpose”). Suction Records discovered RX-101’s output via Erik’s Soundcloud page, which had been much discussed on Aphex Twin fan forum We Are The Music Makers, where many speculated that Erik was in fact a secret Richard D James alias. We were blown away the vast treasure trove of golden era ‘90s electronics in Erik’s archive, and began work on an ongoing campaign to release the music of RX-101. Although Erik was initially driven to electronic music production through the influence of house and techno, especially Detroit-area heavyweight labels Underground Resistance, Plus 8, and Transmat, it should be clear to anyone who listens that RX-101’s primary influence is the work of Richard D James. While RX-101’s output to date has been like an overview of many facets of the AFX/Rephlex catalog, from Caustic Window-style crunchy techno, to Bochum Welt-style synth pop, to Universal Indicator-style acid, the focus of Dopamine’s sound palette is firmly guided by the slow, funky and crisp 808 patterns, warm analog basslines, and evocative chords of Aphex Twin’s landmark “Selected Ambient 85-92” LP. It’s an immersive listen from start to finish - 13 tracks of armchair techno of the highest order. releases March 22, 2019

What’s truly mind-boggling about RX-101’s output is the sheer quantity of stunning, top-drawer material that Dutch producer Erik Jong recorded over the period of just 3 years, 1997-1999. Many have suggested that the whole thing is a publicity stunt — some insisting that this is all new material masquerading as vintage, while others have proposed that the material may in fact be a secret alias for Aphex Twin to release gems from his own legendary ’90s audio archive. RX-101 has absolutely nailed the sound, and quality, of early-90s AFX/Rephlex, that much is true. “Serenity,” this latest full-length RX-101 release, is no exception. Just as RX-101’s last album, 2019’s Dopamine, concentrated on one hallmark of Aphex Twin’s sound — the smooth melodic techno of his Selected Ambient Works 1985-1992 LP — so too does Serenity reference another classic early-Aphex era, but this time it’s a completely different beast. Don't let the title fool you - Suction Records' latest dive into RX-101's 1997-1999 tape archives is not all lush, serene melodies. On Serenity, scorched, crunchy jackhammer beats combine with emotional, plaintive pads, delivering a classic set of vintage-Rephlex-style bliss, à la AFX, Caustic Window, and Cylob. It was Cylob who coined the term Industrial Folk Songs for his classic 1995 LP, and that release is clearly a blueprint for RX-101’s latest collection. Standout cut Hearts Utd., featuring a stunning music video by Aidan Fantinatto and I Dream Of Wires’ director Robert Fantinatto, not only nails the magic of AFX’s trademark, irresistible jackhammer-beats-meets-plaintive-melody device, it arguably rivals the master at his own sound. As a whole, what could be a harsh and monotonous collection is lifted by RX-101’s subtle diversity and skill, particularly in his ability to create eerie, evocative moods, with gorgeous melodies that speak volumes of emotion. The album contains 13 songs, available on 2LP vinyl in a thick-spine jacket + insert, CD digipack, or digital. The stunning army-green colour-vinyl edition is limited to 300 copies. released February 14, 2020
