They formed in Florence in 1979 and started experimenting with electronic machines from 1981. The second singer, Alex Spalck, has been the composer of all the lyrics from their first release, the EP on cassette Throw Out Rite (1983), followed by the legendary first EP God's Deneuve on KinderGarten Records (1984) until 2007. The first LP came in 1987 on Contempo Records, and was produced by Adrian Sherwood. Pankow were the first Italian electronic band to gain wide success in Europe and the USA, they did a tour of 30 dates in the States at the beginning of the 90s'. In 1993 the band split up, Spalck went to live in Australia. In 1996 fm released with Gianluca Becuzzi of Limbo the album named Pankow . Pankow returned 2003 with Alex Spalck back as the front man and 2 new CDs Life Is Offensive And Refuses To Apologise out on Minus Habens and Great Minds Against Themselves Conspire out on Wheesht. The band is currently active and based in France/Belgium with the frontman singer Bram Declercq, the head of the band Maurizio Fasolo, Enzo Regi, Paolo Favati and Alessandro Gimignani. Leading off with a sublime version of the classic das Wodkalied, the tape is a sonic masterpiece, mixing as it does the weirdest elements of early Throbbing Gristle compositions with the exciting urgency of acts like Einsturzende Neubauten and Clock DVA. Blixa (of Neubauten fame) even makes a cameo on Rendez-Vous dans Un Bois, a weird track that serves to foreshadow the direction of the rest of the album. Later on, the echo-chamber of Destiny sounds like something Coil would do a few years later. And the closing piece I Am Food For You is what Severed Heads would be if they were actual aliens and didn't really love synthpop. The entire mini-album is genius, recorded using only analogue Roland gear (RE301, TR606, TB303, 100m) and a perfect artifact of the spirit and experimentalism of early-80s electronic music. The six tracks of Throw Out Rite are remastered from the original tape (not cassette!). The CD also features 4 bonus tracks recorded by Pankow in the same year that Throw Out Rite came out (1983). The artwork has been lovingly restored by Maurizio Fasolo and is presented in deluxe digipak with special silver ink layers, as well as a beautiful booklet. released January 15, 2016 This profile is managed by the guys at Storming the Base.
