The sound of Media Them is a unique blend of warm atmospherics and organic rhythms - electronic music reduced to the simplest of loops, repeating infinitely. It is both minimalist and maximalist at once, as Media Them's composition lies not in the makeup of these loops, but rather, the size of the window we're glimpsing them through. Small breaths of melody, heart flutters of bass, snare and hi hat and the coziest bedroom production give way to expanding universes of color and sonic exploration without end. Did that sound just repeat one more time than it did before? Was that other sound even playing since the start of the track? Media Them beckons you to refocus your ears and get lost in a beautiful hypnosis of music and mind. We've been so obsessed with Media Them music since discovering it, that there is now an exclusive catalog subset reserved only for Media Them records. These albums will be free to download, but super-limited edition CD-R runs of 25 copies each will be available as well. As the title of the opening track "Feeling Warm Inside" would indicate, this is an incredibly warm listen that surrounds you with pleasant ambience. A gentle throb of bass in the dreamy fog of swirling loops that repeat forever. Just enough hint of a melody or a rhythm to trick your brain into thinking you're listening to a developing piece of music, and not a loop, and by the time you realize the repetition, your ship has already sunk. Those of you who picked up An Expensive Vase will note the appearance of the track "Finally Forgotten" on this album as well. The answer for that is that there is no answer. Continuing down the path of the undeniable and unique Media Them sound, approaching a mental centerpoint via repetition, loops used as medicine, sound applied shamanistically, audio editing as alchemy. An addressing of just what one would like to say when they sit down to create anything at all. Inside The Lines operates a bit more playfully and melodically than the previous two MT releases, although it too begins to gravitate toward pure warm emptiness and isolationism at certain points. As we wrote before about Media Them, these are not songs, so much as windows, which each provide a macrocosmic view of something basic, calming, yet curious. With Media Them, we are able to assume the viewpoint of the creator perfectly. We see what he sees, we hear as he hears.
