Some of the bands have previously signed to : Peaceville, Skyfall, Candlelight & Music for Nations All bands are credited to Julian Hill & Joseph White and include : Whores of Babylon, Soundisciples, Noiselab Project, Corporation of Corpse Stealers & Drunken Pirates 1990 - Julian ( Gobz ) is messing around with samplers, house music and metal while Shaun is fronting metal bands ( one of which included Joseph White ) then Julian and Shaun team up under the name "THE WHORES OF BABYLON" as a musical experiment to record the track ` Charmeur des serpents ` in Julian`s bedroom recording set up. The track is nine minutes long and is of a gothic rock and dramatic filmscore influenced nature. It is then distributed amongst friends and that was that.
1991 - Opened a commercial recording studio `State of Art` in Bristol,UK. Employed Shaun Atkins ( soundisciples ) and Dave McDonald ( later in Portishead ) as extra engineers. 1992 - Formed the `Whores of Babylon` with Shaun Atkins ( soundisciples ). Shaun - vocals and Gobz - guitars, drum programming, sampling, synths, engineering, mixing etc ). Most of the musical composition by Gobs and some by Shaun. 1993 - Released a demo tape entitled `Eternal` throughout the underground fanzines etc. The music was a kind of hybrid goth/dramatic classical/metal crossover, some called it `darkwave`. Tape received many favourable reviews. 1994 - Signed to `Candlelight` records and released the album `Metropolis`, all credits as before. Received a mixture of good and average reviews as album not to everyones taste in the metal scene. Interview in `Terrorizer` magazine 1995 - left `Candlelight` records as their artist promotion seemed to be non-existant at the time! Recruited extra band members in order to perform live. Headlined `Fabrica de sons` festival in Portugal. Promo video of a song called `the whip` is shown on ITV`s `noisy muthas`. 1996 - Signed a one off CD deal with `Skyfall` records from Portugal and released the `Kumari` mini album, all credits Gobz and Shaun as before. Featured Beth Gibbons from `Portishead` on one track, and a Geoff Barrow Portishead remix. Travelled back to Portugal to play some gigs, one at Lisbon university. Also conducted some Lisbon radio station interviews 1997 - signed a co-ownership deal with Geoff Barrow from `Portishead` for the recording studio, and the studio was privatised. 1998 - Talks with Peaceville/Music for Nations begin. `Whores of Babylon` name is dropped in favour of `Soundisciples` as the name the whores is no longer deemed suitable for a band who`s musical style had now become a kind of techno/jungle/metal cross-over. 1998 - 2001 - Return to the `302 music junction` homepage and access the biogs on `Soundisciples` and `Noiselab` for this period. 2001 - Late 2001 She`s Alive !, Whores of Babylon is reborn complete with a real drummer ( all other whores product had programmed drums ) and a new bass player. 2004 - The 2nd quarter of 2004 will see a new 8-track promo cd. It will retain a certain feel of the old material ( i.e dark Orchestrations, distorted guitars and slight techno overtones ) but will be much heavier overall, prepare to enter the abyss ! Whores Of Babylon - Carnal Desires ( N.D.E Remix ) (7:09) THE ORIGINAL MASTER OF THIS WAS TWEAKED IN 2006 TO PROVIDE BETTER CLARITY ON MOST TRACKS RESULTING IN THE VERSION OF THE ALBUM FOR DOWNLOAD HERE ALBUM DESCRIPTION : Whores of Babylon originally started life as a Duo ( Gobz & Shaun ). they initially built up a following in the underground around the world in 1992 after the release of their debut 6 track demo tape `Eternal` purely through interacting with fanzines. The Gothic fanzines liked the Gothic elements of the music whilst the extreme Metal fanzines liked the well crafted use of theOrchestral type keyboard sounds and samples contained within. In 1994 a live version of the band was created to enable them to perform live as well. The likes of Quorthon`s Black Mark Records & Candlelight picked up on the band in 1993 after the underground promotion and the fact that Gobz was working as audio engineer with another of Candlelight`s artists `ETERNE`. This album received high praise from the Gothic & Black Metal community although not so much from the standard Metal community who didn`t quiet understand it at the time although TERRORIZER liked it and gave the band an interview in one of there issues The band`s brand of Symphonic Gothic Metal draws influences from the likes of : Sisters of Mercy, Celtic Frost, Cinema Films & Metallica and this album is almost like a double album as it clocks in at nearly 75 minutes ! OUR RIGHTS TO SELL : Originally one of the early releases on Candlelight Records although we feel that we have the right to sell these songs here as all studio time was paid for by the band and the majority of the promotion for this album was done by the band themselves through hard work in the network of Gothic & extreme Metal fanzines around the world at the time. Our advance was very small and we never received any royalties for this release or any correspondance from the label from 1995 onwards, plus it was re-released again in 1999 without our knowledge. View individual tracks to see how they fit into the Whores of Babylon 1990`s timeline The Original Kumari mini album (released on Skyfall Records in 1996) was the follow up to the debut album `Metropolis on Candlelight Records 1994). The original mini album was a non-exclusive release therefore we still retain the rights to use it and thus it`s content appears here. All but one of the tracks from the original CD have been remastered & included here and also joining them are other unreleased tracks from the 1995 - 1997 period plus 3 more from the debut `Eternal` tape which brought the Whores their initial recognition in the underground. At the end there is an official Portishead Remix of a track from the debut album. This is now a full album of original Whores of Babylon recordings from the 90`s and hence the title has been altered a little to `Kumari Redux`. We`ve always thought of our band Soundisciples as an experimental band genre wise, crossing over Metal with various other styles and hence the title of our first album `Undefined in 1999 Note : we are adding one more song to this album `Activate` hopefully in the next few weeks, just needs vocals for it. This mini album is a kind of Hybrid of Metal with Melodic Punk & Heavy Rock ideas. ( apart from some instrumental projects release in 2013 ) Corporation of Corpse Stealers ( COCS ) is one of the more recent Studio based bands from the minds behind Bristol`s Whores of Babylon & Soundisciples (previously signed to other record labels from 1994 – 2003). Formed in 2008, the musical direction explored here is extreme metal and incorporates influences from Thrash, Death, Black & Folk Metal.
