His real name is Tom Scholefield, he's from Glasgow, and as a 3D film director and graphic artist he's made videos for locals Hudson Mohawke and Mogwai as well as Martyn, Jamie Lidell, Kuedo and Lone, created sleeve artwork for Oneohtrix Point Never, Rustie, King Midas Sound and others, plus he has toured with Mogwai as a DJ. So how on earth does he find the time to make music, or the energy? Tom explains that he makes music to chill out, a form of creative self medication. In contrast to his bright, synthetic and colourful artwork and videos, his music is more mossy and analogue. "Glacier Mountain Descent", for instance, is a re-imagining of the start of Werner Herzog's "Aguirre". At other times tracks are inspired by nostalgia for childhood feelings, while watery immersion is a running theme, and a sense of Scottish surrealism is another. Tom started out making tracks in his teens, copying the synth lines he'd heard on prog house CDs, before graduating to a deep fascination with Jeff Mills and Drexciya's hermetic imagery and alien funk after hearing them on John Peel's show. This led him to creating lo-fi techno, then DJing and promoting events at art school, which developed his knowledge, driving him to formulate an aesthetic of unpolished, textured and emotive music. "Regional Surrealism" works largely like a film. Vignettes like "'Isotonic Pool" transition into larger more dramatic pieces like the deep "At Home With Mum and Dad" which takes an early Aphex Twin sounding ambient track and fills it with odd drama. "Sura-Tura-Gnosi-Cosi" featuring mysterious U.S. artist Steven Retchard is full of tape-hiss and unsettling spoken word, while "Zang-Tumb" - with guitar played by MOGWAI's Stuart Braithwaite - works in bruised and twisted Ash-Ra Tempel territory. Elsewhere "Slootering" finds a sweet spot between Drexciya and Oneohtrix Point Never, while "Lagoon Leisure" lets you get lost in musique concrete space and drops. Later on "Hurt Face" rubs static and raw electronic textures together and "Chambers" follows it up with a sunny glow. The album finishes on the water-themed "Let's Go Swimming" which indulges in a slow-motion nostalgia, sending you away happy. Tracklist:
01. Konx-om-Pax - I (6:00) 02. Konx-om-Pax - II (3:34) 03. Konx-om-Pax - II (6:22) 04. Konx-om-Pax - III (No-Fun Acid Mix) (6:56) Acclaimed visual artist Konx-om-Pax presents an absolutely amazing first release from his Display Copy label, including a No Fun Acid remix by Carlos Giffoni. Konx-Om-Pax is one of those enviably hyper-active characters, equally adept at creating dazzling artwork for sleeves like Oneohtrix Point Never's 'Rifts' comp and a number of Rustie releases, as well as art direction for videos from Jamie Lidell and Hudson Mohawke, collaborations with Mogwai and even a series of seriously heavyweight mixtapes. For this release we're dealing with his sonic persona, presenting three extended tracks roving between Swans-strength bludgeoning on 'I', onto close, clammy, digital drone shapes on 'II' with shades of Coil or Autechre at their most sullen. The longest, and most impressive, is 'III', displaying a hyper-aware aesthetic blending Hecker-esque digital spasms with lysergic noise squalls and cavernous electro-acoustic dynamics crossing the disciplines of Bernard Parmegiani and Keiichiro Shibuya in a head-frazzling fashion. With such visceral material to work with Caros Giffoni ends the set with a compelling remix, feeding the source material through his mazy No Fun Acid matrix to splay him into an anxious blur of squirming sinewaves and organically evolving noisescapes. In other words, this is really really REALLY good, and completely f**ked sideways. Comes in limited, hand numbered (200 copies) and printed artwork, a free sticker, and our noisiest recommendation to fans of the Mego or No Fun Productions camps. Don't miss. ----------------------- foobar2000 1.3.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Tracklist:

Konx-om-Pax - Total Protonic Reversal (4:27) Limited to 200 copies, includes handmade artwork and sound contributions from Laurel Halo and Mogwai** Ace 2nd album from Glasgow-based digital artist, Konx-om-Pax, including cameo appearances from Laurel Halo and Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite (both of whom he's previously designed sleeves for). Following the noise sculptures of last years 'Optimo Tracks', 'Light In Extension' - a reference to the mythical Egyptian etymology of his name - is a more varied and sublimely textured (yet occult-infused) collection of eight tracks in just over 25 minutes. It covers phantastical interzones between the epic choral drone wormhole of 'Halo Ritual' featuing HIT's Laurel, to the glistening geomteric ice cap melodies of '7th Dimension', into the Hype Williams-esque vignettes 'Chevy Chase Mega Looper' and 'Why Aren't You Here', to the intergalactic distress signals of 'Room With A View' and the dynamic Autechre-isms of 'Total Protonic Reversal'. There's really not a lot of albums around that can do that without sounding compromised but Konx-Om-Pax's viscerally synaesthetic tones and textures are spellbinding to behold. Highly Recommended! ----------------------- foobar2000 1.3.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Tracklist:

At the time I was introduced to the prepared piano work of John Cage, and digital glitches of Yasunao Tone. I was sticking microphones down into old broken pianos and drawing onto CDs: making them skip on playback, then recording the outputs. I had a great time experimenting with manipulating sounds and presenting the outcomes visually as part of my course work. Around this time, myself and Richard from Numbers organised a show for Autechre at the Art School. It was definitely one of those lifechanging gigs for me, hearing collapsing polyrhythms so loud that your eyeballs started to vibrate. The week after the show I wrote a couple of tracks directly influenced by that night. My influences being what they were (well, are), and considering the extended time period that these tracks were recorded in, it made sense to self-release the album because I didn't want to compromise the structure. In this sense it's less of an album and more in line with one of my Display Copy mixtapes – random selections of ideas, caught in the moment and compiled over time. released September 16, 2013 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.3.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Tracklist:

Konx-om-Pax - Rainbow Bounce (2:41) Tom ‘Konx-om-Pax’ Scholefield’s Caramel is quite a different record from the dark, mould-pocked ambience of his debut ‘Regional Surrealism’. Although it’s primarily a beatless album, it’s one with a big smile on it’s face. Scholefield started making ‘Caramel’ after his last record in 2012, “My surroundings have a direct influence on the mood of what I make. I made Regional Surrealism when I was living in a big empty flat on my own in Glasgow town centre surrounded by concrete and junkies. Moving next to the park, closer to friends and getting to tour the world had a positive effect on the feel of the tracks.” ‘Caramel’ has a lightness and energy, an unrepentant joyful cheesiness even - like the rave piano and spiralling arpeggios of ‘Cosmic Trigger’ or the big beatless build up of the title track. “A lot of the tracks are very simple, that’s quite an important theme.” He adds “I remember the Human League talk about how you can play their songs using only a couple of fingers on the synth, or Boards Of Canada saying its important to be able to hum their melodies really easily.” There’s also a strong element of rave memory in this ambience. It’s influenced in some ways by touring the world with Lone doing visuals and DJing, but also from simply listening to old rave tapes and taking in the warmth and energy. As he says “Some of the tracks are like photocopies of photocopies of rave tracks, where the drums have dissolved and its just the melodies that have survived.” You can hear this distinctly on ‘Perc Rave’. Other tracks are more or less drones that build into melodies, like ‘Beatrice’s Visit’, as he says “I’m always trying to find the most ecstatic and basic loop and just let it run and do it’s thing. I heard a funny story about Basic Channel popping out to get a kebab and letting their machines run while they were out.” Other tracks approach the pastoral melodies of prime nineties IDM such as ‘At The Lake’ and ‘Rainbow Bounce’ which almost seem like a homage to Planet Mu’s Mike Paradinas at his most beatific. Extended Stay - The Morning Version) (11:17) This summer Tom Scholefield a.k.a. Konx-om-Pax will release the very welcome ‘Refresher’ EP, his follow up to last year’s album, the popular ‘Caramel’, which explored and disassembled the afterglow of warm rave memory. The EP kicks off with the joyous actual rave of Cascada, a piece of sunny techno with a modulating, catchy stab riff over strong kicks. Next up, ‘Species with Amnesia’ starts of with hazy bells and synthetic, warped bird-like sounds, before dropping into a chugging Italo disco bassline and a relaxed synthline which snakes around the chords in unexpected ways as the track progresses. The first of two remixes, the µ-Ziq mix of ‘Caramel’, is recast to maximise it’s airiness, its soft chords building into epic slabs of choral sound over loose breaks. The EP finishes on the slowly evolving dawn ambience of Huerco S.’s ‘Extended Stay – The Morning Version’ of ‘Beatrice’s Visit’, eleven pure minutes of gentle bliss to get lost in. released August 11, 2017 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Tracklist:

Konx-Om-Pax - Magenta One (3:17) 11. Konx-Om-Pax - The Paleontologist (3:55) On ‘Ways Of Seeing’ Konx-om-Pax has switched up the mood and hit gold. He has made an album that is filled with joy and sunshine, saturated with the classic feel of Berlin Techno. Tom Scholefield has moved on from the dark ambient and brittle rave of the first two Konx-om-Pax albums, which were a reflection of his hometown Glasgow's electronic music scenes. After a recent move to Berlin, the textures of Glasgow's musical strains have fused into an accessible and friendly mix of poppy melodic electronica built from a stricter 'less is more' sound pallete, closer in spirit to the music of his adopted city. It is also a record which was made in opposition to recent music he has been hearing, in particular the troubled, dark and noisy experimental music coming out of Berlin. Tom wanted to focus on more joyful qualities, making this a record imbued with warmth and happiness, a panacea to the darkness and disorientation all around in 2019. Having a social scene full of producers has also influenced the album. The opening track 'LA Melody' came from staying with Ross Birchard (Hudson Mohawke) at his house in LA, hanging out in the glorious sunshine with him and Lunice working on tracks. "Initially Ross asked me to write some melodies to use in a project he was producing, but I ended up liking it so much I decided to keep the riff. I generally write music alone, but being around other producers gave me a certain excited energy that reminded me of after-parties back in Glasgow where Ross and myself spent our youth together. Spending time in Clark's studio also helped me improve my workflow and sequencing the album by seeing the way he does things". On 'Säule Acid' he collaborates with Silvia Kastel and in 'I’m For Real' the vocals of Glaswegian DJ/producer Nightwave filter around the track. Stripped away to just the good bits, 'Ways Of Seeing' is a pleasure to listen to. releases July 14, 2019 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Tracklist:

Nightwave - I'm For Real (Ambient Mix) (5:11) 05. Konx-Om-Pax - Caramel (Live Version) (3:40) 06. Konx-Om-Pax - Teufelsberg (2:00) Tom Scholefield follows last year's optimistic album Ways of Seeing, which saw Konx-om-Pax take things directly to the dancefloor, with Return to Cascada, revisiting the album and looking at chosen tracks in different ways, finding their core feeling and levelling them up in mood and innovation. The EP starts with the sole guest remix, a fantastic moody spiralling take on Rez from man of the moment Skee Mask. This is followed by Return to Cascada, a complete retooling of the lead track from his Refresher EP, which gently mixes a meditative vocoder against chattering synths and an off-beat chirp, suspending the listener in a static mesh. Säule Acid is given some trippy tweaks and edits, giving it the feeling of early Warp bleep music injected with sunshine and dub. I'm for Real (Ambient Mix) loses the drums and gets lost in the spongy tones of its synths, with Nightwave's voice sent through the echo chamber. Caramel (Live Version) takes the original track back to tough dancefloor basics and we finish with Teufelsberg's icy synths and bleeps feeling like Wiley's eskibeats taken to an island paradise. released February 21, 2020 ----------------------- foobar2000 1.2.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 Для того, чтобы скачать .torrent Вам необходимо зарегистрироваться |
