Emerging from an uncontrollable burning passion for vintage keyboards, and acknowledging inspiration from acts in the likes of KOMPUTER, I START COUNTING or the unmatchable technological pioneers of KRAFTWERK, METROLAND carry us on an electronic journey animated by authentic warm sequences, melodic synthetic layers and robotic vocals, the whole project spiced up with analogue drum machines. Imagine blending the best ingredients of many decades of electronic music into an all new sonic world! Well... this aural mixture can be found on the debut album “Mind The Gap” by METROLAND. From ‘T.F.L. (Transport For London)'s dreamy piano riff to the wobbly acid-like ‘M-E-T-R-O’ through the sinister sequences of title-track "Mind The Gap", it is obvious that METROLAND will guide your senses on a sound-driven ride through the buzzing traffic or overcrowded vehicles, without limitations. And if METROLAND do not hesitate openly revealing their influences, they also dare to push back the limits of the expected music frame for METROLAND! A cliché as big as a house, but one that holds a fundamental truth. More than likely, Passengers A. and S., the sonic engineers of Metroland, will need no persuading: on "Mind The Gap", their impressive debut released in 2012, they already put the theory of the Gesammtkunstwerk into practice and instantly established their vintage electronic trademark sound which also brought them unmistakable comparisons with keyboard pioneers like KRAFTWERK or yet TELEX. More than two years have passed since, but even though 2014 saw the release of "Thalys", a tribute to the high-speed train, the work on the new album started almost immediately after the first album's launch.
Inspired by the basic principles of design in general - Unity, hierarchy, variety, the passengers deemed it logical to draw inspiration from the art movement where these principles were put into practice and resulted in an almost unbelievable array of artefacts and creations: the Bauhaus movement, founded in 1919 by the architect Walter Gropius. The idea of creating a total movement, where all art forms would be present, sparked a creative avalanche, with a huge and lasting influence - to this day - on art, architecture, graphic design, interior design, industrial design, and even typography. Unity, variety and hierarchy indeed. It was only logical that these would become the trinity of values for the music and design of Metroland’s “Triadic Ballet” album: three silvery discspackaged in a Bauhaus-inspired deluxe edition: Part 1, aptly titled ‘Unity’,starts off with a trilogy of “Design”, emphasizing – again – unity, variety and hierarchy. “3 Directors”, a far more nervous and edgy affair, could well be the perfect soundtrack to the rollercoaster ride experienced by the Bauhaus’ three directors Gropius, Meyer and van der Rohe. It paves the way for “Ikone Der Moderne”, a 90’s electro inspired four-to-the-floor, soothed by rainy arpeggios and driven forward by throbbing strings. “Zeppelin” then, is definitely up, up and away, providing blue skies and breathing space, before the frenzy returns with“Machines Gone Mad” and the weirdness of “Triadic Ballet”. “Art + Technology” and “Struktur” find some inspiration in the great city of Düsseldorf, while “Les 3 Couleurs” (The 3 Colours) shows the Passengers moving into their own ground. “The Manifesto” is the seamless combination of musical backdrop vs spoken word, and as such it’s an intriguing illustration of the Bauhaus theory. It’s also the perfect introductory piece for “Utopia”, probably the most emotionally gripping song Metroland have created to date: Bauhaus was about men who believed in a utopian world where human meets mechanical: if the band succeeded in one thing, it's proving that this combination, when applied to music, can lead to astonishing and moving results. Part 2 and 3 belong to the remixers. They took the songs, filtered them through their own artistic sieve and came up with results as diverse as they are interesting: from the synthpop of the Greek Fotonovela to the electro of Laurent Paranthoën’s Commuter, or the minimal EBM of Belgium’s Absolute Body Control to the toy shop of Playboy’s Bend (origin unsure. Could be La La Land). All in all, it’s a different journey than disc 1, for sure. But those who stick with it to the end, may find it a rewarding addition to the voyage. released April 16, 2015

As a personal tribute, Passengers A and S created a complete new album from scratch, where every song, every note and the featured cd art is their way of saying thank you and goodbye to their close friend and fellow passenger.
The 11 titles on the album each describe or embody what Louis means to the band in general and to both Passengers on a personal level: his witty e-mail headers, the name of his recording studio, his genuine love for synthetic music, his other musical projects and, especially, life itself. When comparing the music on this album to former releases, the listener will surely notice a darker, slightly mellow edge, while rediscovering the typical METROLAND sound that clearly toys with sounds from analogue synthesizers, pulsating rhythms and effective samples. This 3rd release is not just an album, it's a profound production filled with sentiment and a heartfelt message to every one out there, but to Louis Zachert in particular: "Things will never sound the same again"…

Today “Men In A Frame”, their brand new studio album, glorifies the 4th concept by the Belgian synthesizer duo: photography. Faithfull as ever to their well-known typical soundscapes, METROLAND this time joined forces with 5 Belgian professional photographers from an art collective called F-8 (pronounced as 'Faith'). Each one of the F-8 photographers carefully relinquished 2 unique pictures including apt titles. Consequentially, METROLAND unleashed their machines to translate these images into their trademark electronics. The result is an almost filmic soundscape, filled with layered sequences and samples of all kinds, standing side-by-side with vintage electronic rhythms, making the whole a truly visual aural experience like never before. On this album they further expanded their artistic horizon by (quite literally) throwing photography into the concept. Apart from the main release, two non-album singles, “Man in a frame'”and “Memorabilia”, were accompanied by more obscure b-sides and remixes. Add to this, the first exposition “Pictures to listen to”, where Metroland realised the concept of how “Men in a frame” should be experienced to the full. This unique happening allowed people to actually listen to the pictures, after which they were given the opportunity to obtain the likewise called compilation containing all the tracks used in the exhibition plus an exclusive title track.. Metroland’s aim is, at all times, to immerse their listeners in the symbiotic combination of electronics and deliberate, yet minimal design. Metroland presented a selection of kindred spirit musicians and bands with the challenge of this time putting the band in the frame, ending up in this unique remix album. As an extension to the austere art that Metroland holds so dear, each track on this luscious 12 track download is the remixers’ contribution to really put the finishing touch on all of these Metroland memorabilia. “Framed Anew“ (cd + download) accompanied by “Framed“ (double yellow vinyl) will be available from the second “Pictures To Listen Too“ exposition onwards from the vernissage on 26th January, 2019 until 24th March, 2019 at Cultuur Centrum Mechelen - Belgium. released January 25, 2019

Today, the Belgian duo presents “Zeppelin”, the first EP from their forthcoming 2nd album "Triadic Ballet" inspired to the Bauhaus movement. While the main track, "Zeppelin" shows the floating, melodic and warm synthetic side of their work, "(We need) Machines Without Romance" reveals a more nervous, pulsating and harsher attitude. "Zeppelin" definitely marks a new launch for our favourite Belgian passengers and announces another astounding conceptual release... METROLAND's "Zeppelin" will be released in two different 3-track editions (standard and spacious edition).
The "spacious" edition even reveals a third psychedelic track "The Hindenburg Landing" through which METROLAND remind us once again how deep they always investigate and develop the content of their conceptual work. Throughout the last 5 years, METROLAND managed to build their own identity, release after release. And this new 5-track EP “Cube” reinforces this once more. And although METROLAND definitely have established their very own signature sound, they have also always continued challenging themselves, redefining their sonic palette to get it best fitting each new original concept and musical direction while steadily surprising their growing fanbase again and again. After both 12-inch vinyl versions of "4" came "3" ("Modularity"), and now we have reached "2"… This 3rd release holds the single "Davos" where the genesis of the new album concept actually can be found; In fact, not from the Passengers themselves, but from someone closely related. The lyrical samples in the song will give a bit more insight on where this electronically induced road is heading for when they reach final destination: The new album "0"! "Davos" reveals a more harsh sound side compared with many other tunes from the Belgian duo, bashing beats accompanied with a dry hitting bass, but as always spiced with the trademark METROLAND sequence layers and that unique touch of vintage synth music that keeps placing the Belgian duo in the heart of all fans of the Düsseldorf soundstyle. Next to the title song, each METROLAND Passenger, from their own secluded habitat, reshaped “Davos” into their very own personal view giving it some extra synthetic dimensions. Last but not least, METROLAND invited the young Belgian LOXS as external remixer who took the track to ulterior levels and turned it into an epic dark techno anthem, rightly suiting the atmosphere of the original version. (Note that LOXS is nothing else but the dark electronic project of Passenger S’s eldest son!) The idea to give this future era an appropriate soundtrack came after reading the fantastic book “the fourth industrial revolution” written by none less than Klaus Schwab, chairman of the World Economic Forum, held in ”Davos”. "4ir Intelligence" is at the same time a reference to METROLANDs 80s pop past and it ejects into that futuristic fourth revolution. Winking to bands like OMD, YAZOO and BLANCMANGE when they magically produced the finest melodies and sequence layers, topped with the METROLAND vintage sound anno 2023, keeps placing these Belgian synth lovers in the heart of many fans of the Düsseldorf sound style.
