Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Al Jarreau first began singing at the tender age of four. While in college he performed on weekends and holidays both as a soloist and with a vocal trio called The Indigos. Graduating with a master's degree in psychology, he relocated to San Francisco to work as a rehabilitation counselor, but it wasn't long before music drew him back to the stage. He performed with a trio headed by jazz great George Duke and, by 1968, made the decision to pursue music full time. Over the course of the next four years he worked extensively in New York at the Improvisation and in Los Angeles at such clubs as Dino's, the Troubadour, Bitter End West and a small nitery called the Bla Bla Cafe, where he first showcased his original material. In 1975 he was signed to Warner Bros. Records, releasing his debut album, We Got By, that same year. While stateside acclaim for Jarreau's artistry was substantial, it was in Europe that the earliest indications of the singer's tremendous appeal was evidenced. A German Grammy for Best New International Soloist in 1975 was followed by a second German Grammy for his second LP Glow (1976).The next year he embarked on a worldwide concert tour, playing to sold-out halls across the continent. The resulting live album, Look To The Rainbow, contains 12 quintessential Jarreau performances, including such original compositions as "Letter Perfect," "One Good Turn," "So Long Girl" and "Loving You." Other standout cuts on Look To The Rainbow include Leon Russell's "Rainbow In Your Eyes" and the Paiil Desmond classic "Take Five." REM GENRE "Vocal Jazz" Exact Audio Copy V1.3 from 2.
