An obscure band, Tetragon originated from Osnabrück in Northern Germany from the Brian Auger inspired Blues Limited. Later, after discovering The Nice, they changed their style andbecame the organ fronted trio Trikolon, and upon becoming a quartet they changed name toTetragon! After having toured with their Dutch heroes Ekseption, it's not surprising that Tetragonmoved to an ever-more complex classical rock with extensive use of rearranged Bach and other classical themes. The deliberate accent on their blues and psychedelic roots, guaranteed aunique twist on the genre, though on their sole album NATURE one can detect much The Nice,Egg and Dutch progressive stylisms. An unknown classic.

September 2016 REM GENRE "Progressive Rock" ----------------------- foobar2000 1.3.16 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 An ecology- inspired Krautrock album (1971) from a short- lived group comprised of German school- chums, some of whom had recorded an LP as Trikolon. Tetragon did not conform to any predetermined musical style: they played whatever they pleased, as long as it included groovy Hammond organ and very trippy, flanged wah-wah guitar, in various taut jamming modes that favored jazz/ rock fusion à la Miles Davis with a small dose of classical music (adapting a Bach fugue along the way).
The result is a bouquet of lush instrumentals, with elements of Egg or the Nice, and quite a bit of T2 to boot. The album was recorded in a converted barn, using a Revox A77 two- track tape recorder and seven microphones placed judiciously to best capture the sound of each instrument. Re- recording wasn't possible, as the record was mixed live. Yet these challenging conditions inspired the band to great heights: Hendrik Schaper played organ and clavinet simultaneously, with one hand on each keyboard; meanwhile, Jürgen Jaehner unleashed rampaging electric guitar solos, then, in an instant, switched to acoustic guitar for the next musical passage; Schaper didn't own a piano, so he used a pre- amp with a wah- wah pedal to imitate that instrument's sound. A virtuoso effort, from start to finish! Tetragon didn't bother contacting any record labels; they didn't their music would interest anyone. A mere 400 copies of the album were released on a private label, named Soma after the drug- induced effect described in Alduous Huxley's Brave New World. Our edition includes all of the original pro- environment, anti- industrial pollution gatefold album art, a detailed band history, band photos, and a nearly fifteen- minute bonus track, recorded live in Georgsmarienhütte in 1972. They released their first and only LP, “Nature”, in that very year. It came out as CD on Musea in 1995. At the end of 1971, Tetragon recorded in a Hamburg studio five long tracks in their well-proven style for their second LP, the release of which, however, failed. Fortunately, the master tape has survived until the present day, so that now, 38 years past schedule, the work is released on CD. Three of the five songs have been written by the band itself, one by Eddie Harris (“Listen here”) and one by John McLaughlin (“Dragon song”). The two latter ones had already been worked on by Brian Auger. Especially remarkable are Hendrik Schaper’s exceptional play on keyboards and Jürgen Jaehner’s hot guitar play. The other two, however, are their equals in skill and talent.

Their first LP, 'Nature', was released in 1971 and is today scarcely affordable. Their second album, 'Stretch', was recorded in the optimally equipped Hamburg Windrose Studios at the end of 1971. At that time, however, its release failed so that a CD edition appeared only in 2009 and an LP in 2011. Some other immaculate and as yet unreleased studio recordings from the end of 1973, originally just intended for broadcasting purposes, have now been released as CD 'Agape'. Three of the six tracks were written by keyboarder Hendrik Schaper, one by all band members together, one by Eddie Harris, and the last one by Keith Emerson and Lee Jackson from The Nice. A spotless CD, made by undisputable musical talents and drawn from the master tapes.
