' S T R E E T W I Z E ' Discography :: 2002-2015 :: 10CD Genre: Smooth Jazz / Urban Jazz / Adult Contemporary R&B / Sax
Format: MP3, 320 kbps, CBR, Lame 3.98 from Lossless Mystikal "Shake It Fast," Aaliyah "Rock the Boat", и " D'Angelo "Brown Sugar". Второй альбом 'Work It' появился на следующий год - Kim Waters и компания музыкантов представили изящные вариации произведений из репертуаров Missy Elliott, Erykah Badu и Jennifer Lopez. В 2004 году 'Streetwize' выпустил альбом 'Slow Jamz' с кавер-версией композиций Isley Brothers "Don't Say Goodnight" и "Between the Sheets". Спустя два года группа вернулась с альбомом 'Does Dre', в который вошли песни рэпера Dr.Dre, такими как Eminem "My Name Is", Snoop Dogg "Gin and Juice" и "Nuthin' But a G Thang". Группа сосредоточилась на выпуске медленных кавер-версий известных произведений, выпустив в 2007 году альбом 'Sexy Love', в 2008 - 'Does Mary J.Bluge', в 2009 - 'Put U to Bed'. В 2012 году группа выпустила свой восьмой студийный альбом 'Feelin' Sexy', в который вошли каверы на песни Robin Thicke, R.Kelly, Frank Ocean. В 2013 году вышел последний (пока) альбом 'Body Party' с версиями песни Ciara с одноименным названием, а также Drake "Hold On, We're Going Home" и Tamar Braxton "The One". Audio CD Release: 2002 Shanachie Records (April 9, 2002) [#5089]

While a little cheap on the tracking at nine cuts, this disc offers funky smooth jazz arrangements of urban chart-toppers by Aaliyah (the bouncy, hypnotic "Rock the Boat," featuring vocalist Maysa Leak), Jay-Z (a bluesy, moody reworking of "Izzo (Hova)," led by the gospel organ excitement of Moe Daniels), Usher ("U Don't Have to Call"), and others like Shaggy, Missy Elliot, and D'Angelo. Although Ken Navarro (whose balmy guitar smooths out "After Party") and Maysa are billed as featured artists, this is most often a showcase for the impressive soprano work of one of the label's most popular saxmen, Kim Waters. This will be an open door for smooth jazz fans to embrace some slick street sounds, and it should help Waters reach a larger audience, which he has long deserved. Featuring songs made popular by the likes of Gerald LeVert, Jennifer Lopez, and others, Work It! should serve as a revelation for smooth jazz fans and naysayers alike. It's not that the music here is really that different from most pop-jazz; the arrangements basically sound like the originals with some instrumental sections substituted for vocal verses. But by retaining the choruses -- redone by the likes of Masya and Charles Smith -- and production techniques including heavy bass, danceable drum beats, and buzzing hip-hop keyboards, the jazz soloists can take center stage against tracks as funky, if not more so than the originals. Trumpeter Randy Brecker waxes Donald Byrd over Kimberly Waters chanting "Is it worth it, let me work it/I put my thang down, flip it and reverse it" on Missy Elliott's "Work It." Kim Waters' takes on Nelly's role against the lead vocals of Rosanna Vitro on the Kelly Rowland hit "Dilemma." Other stand-out tracks include the quiet storm-ready version of LeVert's "Funny" and guitarist Wayne Bruce's infectious feature on "Luv U Better." This is a fun, street-savvy album that updates the notion of how smooth jazz can be presented. Audio CD Release: 2004 Shanachie Records (August 24, 2004) [#5116]

As the title suggests, this is ten songs associated with Dr. Dre, including Eminem's "My Name Is," Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice," and "Nuthin' But a G Thang," given mostly instrumental, sax-heavy smooth jazz arrangements. The results may well make the average West Coast gangsta rapper slightly ill, but aside from a couple of half-hearted and ill-advised forays into actual rapping, the group focuses on Dre's roots in '70s-vintage soul and funk, bringing out that key influence and rebuilding the songs from there. Anyone who liked any of Grover Washington, Jr.'s '80s and beyond work would find something to appreciate here. Having previously covered the likes of Mary J. Blige, Dr. Dre, Missy Elliot, and Gerald Levert, Waters has built a niche around interpreting these modern-day R&B standards and urban pop hits into relaxing, sexy background jams. While Waters' supple and passionate saxophone is the main focus on these productions, he is nicely framed by keyboards, soulful guitar lines, and even some backing vocals on several of the choruses. Here we get reworkings of songs by Robin Thicke, R. Kelly, John Legend, and more. A fan of both new- and old-school R&B, Waters usually includes one or two classic songs and here we get Atlantic Starr's "Send for Me." Interestingly, Waters doesn't just stick to the biggest artists either, instead adding a few lesser-appreciated ones like Anthony Hamilton and Frank Ocean to the mix. As usual, the group rolls through well-known contemporary singles with a predominantly instrumental and wholly relaxed approach. Silken takes on Ciara's "Body Party," Drake's "Hold On, We're Going Home," and Miguel's "How Many Drinks" are among the highlights. Another bright spot, Tamar Braxton's "The One," allows the group to have fun with Mtume's "Juicy Fruit" and the Notorious B.I.G.'s "Juicy." For slightly older listeners, Waters and company close out the the album by going back to 1979 for a serene version of Angela Bofill's "I Try" -- a bittersweet quiet storm classic despite not being released as a single. Those who dig the Bofill cover should check Waters' My Loves, issued only five months prior, which includes a rendition of Minnie Riperton's "Lovin' You" fronted by Dana Pope (one of the vocalists on this album).
