The extraordinary guitarist, Jeff Healey was born March 25th, 1966 in Toronto, Canada. He lost his sight when he was only one year old but overcame this disability to start playing the guitar when he was three and to develop into one of the most innovative musicians in the blues rock arena.
His distinctive way of playing the guitar, sitting down with his Stratocaster on his lap, set him apart from other guitarists although some purists have been critical of the 'novelty' value of his style. His ability to bend and hammer notes, his use of vibrato and unique style of 'licks' made him a guitar-wizard in the style of Jimi Hendrix, also using his teeth to pick the strings of his guitar or playing over his head.
Healey joined his first group "Blues Direction" when he was fifteen, going on to form The Jeff Healey trio in the mid eighties with bassist Joe Rockman and Tom Stephen on drums. The band released a few singles on their own Forte label before signing to Arista Records.
This collection brings together the very best tracks from all his Arista albums.
The opening track is the powerful rocker It Could All Get Blown Away from 'Feel This', the band's 1992 album, also from that album - two bluesy tracks Cruel Little Number and House That Love Built.
From the classic 1988, debut album 'See The Light' comes the title track, often the climax of the band's live set, with it's superb "blues-rock" solo, the soulful-blues of River Of No Return, the seductive instrumental Nice Problem To Have as well as Don't Let Your Chance Go By and John Hiatt's Confidence Man.
Healey goes back to some of his sixties and seventies influences on the 'Cover To Cover' album (an album of covers!!) featuring his inimitable twist on such timeless favourites as The Yardbirds' Shape Of Things, Angel by Healey's hero Jimi Hendrix, the Led Zeppelin classic Communication Breakdown, Lennon and McCartney's Yer Blues and Clapton's Badge.
The collection ends with Healey's version of the George Harrison song While My Guitar Gently Weeps from the 'Hell To Pay' album.
