This is one of the fine albums from Norway's legendary Origo Sound label, having released ambient music, ambient techno and intelligent electronic music since 1990. Distant Shore is the debut-CD from one of Norway’s most talented composers. Distant Shore takes you through a range of beautiful melodic passages, in the crossroads between electronic music and symphonic rock. Origo Sound 1994 Mixed and produced by Erik Wøllo at Wintergarden Studio Fredrikstad during 1992-93 Distant shore 2, produced and mixed by sverre knut johansen in 2014. © Origin Music 2014 OM1410 Reviews: SONIC IMMERSON; Distant Shore CD, Origo Sound, 1994 As far as I know, "Distant Shore" is the debut album by the Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Sverre Knut Johansen, who proves he’s also one hell of a composer in about 70 minutes. The ten minute title track, assembling rhythms and both symphonic and intimate passages, is already a great example of that. This kind of music at times made me think of Gandalf’s early music. On the second piece "Nippon Dawn", Mr Johansen skillfully displays some pleasant moods with slight Eastern flavours. The kind of music on this album is a well-executed blend of occasional melodic music riding the edge between symphonic rock and electronics, although I’m not too fond of the contribution of a sax-player on two pieces. At the end of the recording we find the 17-minute "Transition Suite" on which Sverre oncemore gives his best, aptly incorporating powerful rhythms and breaks in his symphonic sound paintings. The great production skills of Erik Wøllo put the icing on the cake for the highly-recommended "Distant Shore". © Bert Strolenberg released August 6, 1994 Sverre Knut Johansen plays bass, synthesizers and drum programming. Review: Great Music Art **** From Norwegian newspaper "Rana Blad" 1 feb. 1999 by Tore Røsvoll. Sverre Knut Johansen has delivered a CD for a small market. Recordings of industrial noise and power-noise combined with electronic and acoustic instruments have been for a small market. At least not in Norway. The record company Origo Sound is aimed more towards a international marked. The same thing happened to his previous privately financed CD, but it happened without a big fanfare. This time it's an exciting concept. Sampled sounds (hence the title of the album) as sound effects in individual songs and more prominent on others. Light melodic sequences mixed with strange noise elsewhere. In on case, he must have been strongly influenced by the German group Kraftverk "Trans Europe Express" from the late 70's. To "softer up" some songs, he also hired artists like Debra Adamson on acoustic guitar, Ketil Pedersen on oboe, Børge Petersen-Øverleir on electric guitar, and Bjørn Frode Skogly on piano. Techno-pop-ambient-new age- rock is considered adequate. Recommended for listners who want to expand their horizon.

So fare just for downloading. Ancient Prophecies has ten tracks with titles that leads to creation, rebirth and hopes. The transition between tracks are smooth, so one can hear the album as a continuous work. Such portrays the music as well. Moving electronic textures who varies gradually. Powerful timbres, who might benefit to thin out a bit here and there to create a greater variety. But Sverre Knut Johansen holding on to his musical project. His ideas are recognizable. This Is Epic Space Music with deep introspective works. A quiet album that brings you into space with ambient and melodic structures. released March 18, 2014 The first track "Space Odyssey" is built on a melodic theme that develops in therm of classical music. The music evolves in the direction of film music. Communication between Apollo 13 and Houston reinforces this and brings forth a national feel. The Cosmos track takes us directly into the large universe where we floates around and bump into different sounds. Not unfamiliar to those who have listened a lot of Tomita albums. Improvised melodic guidelines creates a atmospheres mood, and not to remembers after listening. With the two modulations, the music move into a brighter state on this journey among the stars. Consciousness is my favorite track and retrieve nostalgia. This composition has this Norwegian nostalgia mood, Composed directly on the Sequential Prophet 12 Keyboard. "Subsonic Landscape" and "The Dept Inside You" is deep ambient journeys. These dark sombre songs make great demands on the listener and can be used in creative work, such as background music, music for exhibitions, relaxation music, or film music. Hessdalen is a small valley in the central part of Norway with strange, unexplained lights that appeared at many locations throughout the Valley. www.hessdalen.org/index_e.shtml The "Gods Where Astronauts" title is taken from Erich von Däniken`s book with the title "The Gods Where Astronauts" 2002. The Piano recording was recorded and performed by Sverre Knut Johansen, 11 December 2018. Produced and mixed at "Space Center Music Production" in 2019 by Sverre Knut Johansen. When I was in Praha in 1996 I bought this «Z cyclu Okno mého ateliéru» picture, used on the front cover of his album, its a copy of one of Josef Sudeks photo taken between 1940 and 1954 from his studio window. Josef Sudek (1896–1976) was a Czech photographer best known for his elegiac black-and-white images of Prague, interiors, still lifes, and the landscapes of Bohemian forests. Stunning and elegiac, “Human (Path of Destruction)” begins with a wistful arpeggiator rising through a subtle texture. As the piece progresses, tension swells to apocalyptic heights. Percussion carries the piece to swirling crescendo—then detonates like shattering waves. Contrarily, “Metahuman” is calm and pensive. A subtle, trip-hop-esque beat pulses behind a stunning Haken Continuum performance from Ståle Storløkken. “Fluctuations of Awareness,” has the essence of the cosmic; distorted warbles cut through steely atmospherics like blips on a radar screen. Jernverket A/S a Norwegian company based in Mo i Rana, a town located in the northern part of the country. The name "Jernverket" translates to "the ironworks" in English, indicating that the company has a historical association with the iron and steel industry. The company was established in 1946 as a state-owned enterprise to produce pig iron, steel and other metals. Over the years, it has undergone several changes in ownership and restructuring. the red smoke: When I visited my aunt in Mo i Rana in the 70s, I could see that the fence, which should have been completely white, had a red tint to it, caused by the red smoke from the iron works. Hanging out the laundry was the housewife's nightmare, the clothes could turn red if the wind direction was unfavorable. The red color was visible for several kilometers around the factory on buildings and objects. We all got used to this and didn't think too much about it. Johansen uses human voices throughout the album to represent a warning of extinction. This effect is stunning on opener “Massive Extinction,” which begins with a rich and rumbling texture, the sound of wind through a wasteland. Then, a lamenting vocal melody floats over a building dirge of noise—the unstoppable tide of turmoil rising below its heralding hymn, until even that last voice falls silent. Throughout this is a soundtrack of immense consideration. “The Desert Elephants of Namibia” features sounds depicting elephants created with the Sequential Prophet X hybrid synthesizer, used like brass over a marching drumline and orchestral trills before the piece climaxes in an accelerando of dissonant strings. Johansen again returns to this synth for realizing the sounds of flamingos on the ethereal “The Golden Flamingo Lake.” The album’s finale “Cheetah’s Realm (At the Masai Mara National Reserve)” captures all the Still Time sounds in one epic seven-minute journey, building from a yearning piano intro into a stunning climax of polyrythmic drums and desert-wide textures. Then, the piano refrain returns to beckon one final climax—a subtle IDM beat anchoring clattering tribal drums and yearning textures in a gripping harmony. Still Time is both urgent and hopeful, blending a myriad of organic and inorganic sounds to capture both the beauty of the natural world and the dire imminence of its destruction. But with this sense of urgency, Johansen’s stunning cinematic crescendos come both plea and warning—a call to save our fellow creatures and earth while we still can. Compositions on this album are mainly based on this poem. THE DREAM WE CARRY It’s that dream that we carry with us that something wonderful will happen, that it has to happen, that time will open, that the heart will open, that doors will open, that the mountains will open, that wells will leap up, that the dream will open, that one morning we’ll slip in to a harbor that we’ve never known. The poem "Det er den draumen" by Olav H. Hauge is used both at funerals, confirmations and weddings and was voted Norway's best poem of all time. OHauge's widow, visual artist Bodil Cappelen, herself believes that "the dream we carry" is a poem that lives its own life. - He was not particularly good at giving people explanations of what he had meant by a poem, they had to find that out for themselves. Any interpretation can be the right one, says Cappelen. She herself has pondered what it is that has made so many people fall in love with this poem. - I think that this is a mythical poem about things that everyone carries within them, a kind of dream. And if they don't have it clear to them, then it's a longing. Olav H. Hauge is the foremost Norwegian poet of the post-war period. Many of his poems have become jointly owned and have entered Norwegian literary history as classics. Now Samlaget has collected over 100 of Hauge's most beautiful poems in a magnificent gift book. To make this happen I used the tape speed «knob» on the 8 track Scully tape machine. I recorded the whole song on slower tape speed except for the strings.
