The CD is published by the Israeli ethnic label Magda. Istiftach is the Arab word for "opening" and it introduces the listener to the ensemble's unique creative process. The album has been recorded live and sums up four years of work. The music was created in the ensemble's studio in Ein Kerem, the Judean historic village neighboring Jerusalem. The musical pieces reflect the ensemble members' multiple musical traditions, ranging from Jewish, through Arab and Christian influences. Each composition merges these multiple musical sources into fresh creations, an outcome of a continuous process of mutual listening and searching. Featuring in three numbers in this album is the well known trumpet player and composer Mamelo Orpheus Gaitanopoulos, himself a Jerusalemite, who played and recorded with multiple artists in Israel and abroad. Mamelo contributed two compositions of his own to the album, evoking the sounds of the North African desert in a modern jazz arrangement. Naam Ensemble has performed in renowned festivals in Israel, among others: The Israel Festival in Jerusalem, the Tel Aviv Oud Festival, and the multicultural festival Holiday of Holidays in Haifa.
