This 12” starts with a relentless six and a half minute assault by Australian native and Berlin based Halv Drøm, a fitting vinyl debut for the talented producer. DSX follows up with a finely tuned EBM track tactfully layered with obscure vocal samples and paired with piercing, frenetic drum programming.
The B side starts with a slightly different approach, recalling a more classic techno and electro tone without losing sight of the release’s progressive focus; Privacy’s catchy “Work” recalls late 80s Chicago masterpieces without becoming overly nostalgic.

This fresh offering via Fleisch combines both of their signature styles into a colossal and abrasive 31 minute rhythmic barrage.
“BENDOVER” begins with subtle and eerie pads that are quickly overpowered by a punishing percussive sequence, only to periodically return to soft intricate synth work before swinging back to full power. The Codex Empire remix of the same track features his distinctive unhinged 4/4 assaults minus any overt melodic inclinations that might get in the way of his ‘hammer to the head’ effort. Doubtful any other producer would have been better suited to remix duties here than Mr. Empire.
On the B side “GOTHICSHOCK”’s wobbly acidic synths melt well against a wall of distorted kicks and sweeping synths. “GIRLSCOUTINACOMA” starts with an electro-esque kick pattern before entering a 4/4
sequence head on and later imploding into squelchy and blistering finale. “STONECOLDSOUL” is the closest thing here resembling an EBM track, starting off with a classic one note arpeggiated synth sequence & aggressive tom fills before washing out into a textural and noisy inferno. released May 15, 2017

A playful criminality sets the mood of the record here, one for pouted lips and furrowed brows on bunker, basement dance-floors. ‘The Last Thing’ is a straight forward dance floor stomper, arpeggiated synths batter the listener like blunt instruments, locking the body in a rhythmic cell, dissonant, steam whistle drones contrast with gurgling, radio transmission synths to shift the balance of the parts from uplifting wooze to downcast dance automaton. ‘Not Your Dream’ opens with a moment of primitive, science-lab techno, echo laden vocal jabs open the door to new-beat territory while the synth lines swing between pure rhythm and hypnogogic, alley-chase sound track, clocking in at seven and a half minutes, this is another track destined for synth-wave, dance floor greatness. ‘Undone’, the self-titled track from the release focuses on softer-synths and pads, still motivated by driving drums and percussion, the vision of a lone, masked figure emerges, cutting a path through mud and snow, factories half submerged in some destroyed, industrial miasma. Muttered vocals set a strict grounding to the piece, keeping the track from escaping into sentimentality, layers of cold synth melodies artfully weave between percussive crescendos as radio static crackles distantly. As a natural companion to the record Schwefelgelb close with a remix of ‘Hold Nothing’, where the percussion is stripped back to its bare necessities and the synth parts are sliced down into even more pointed arpeggiations. begins without ceremony; barrel-reverb percussion strikes, a hard hitting straight snare and vinyl crackle ambience set the tone; once the 4/4 kick hits, the basis of ‘Control’ is established. The first four tracks explore EBM, new-beat and acid within the 120-125bpm spectrum, horror-sci-fi pads weave between razor sharp arpeggiations, distorted 303 squelch emerges from doomsday sirens and in the vocal sample taken from the title track, a single, ominous voice urges the listener to ‘control your mind’. The final two tracks explore more broken, stepping rhythms, the
extended middle section of ‘Celestial’ transitions from pads that wouldn’t sound out of place in Aphex Twin’s ambient works into a cold John Carpenter-esque piano loop; the final track ‘Inhale/Exhale’ picks up the tempo but focuses on a slowly building frenzy of percussion and arpeggiation, with a snare drum that gradually gathers intensity as the track progresses, tying the swarming rhythm together and closing the record with the anticipation of a drop that never manifests. The junk funk is still there but it’s bathed in machine age voodoo. This is not a record for the post-apocalypse but an end of history banger for the psycho rollerball time we live in. Counting down every weird minute until the bombs drop, it represents a grotesque vision of end-times razorback EBM. Written and recorded between Berlin and the rainforest of Queensland, Australia, the sound design of ‘Chrysalis’ reflects the rich biodiversity of the latter environment, where she drew much of her inspiration. Her voice shifts and morphs into ghostly, alien forms between catchy hooks that plant this album firmly in the ‘pop’ genre,
without losing the underground rawness and lyrical depth for which she is known.
