v = s / t is the 3rd cd by telepherique; a concept album about the formula of speed. they offer the most complex soundscapes by combining elements of chilling ambient, industrial, noise, and drum&bass.
like the formula v = s / t, life itself is also closely connected to different influences.
v contains the track ‘bewegung,’ from the performance in mainz, germany 1992, which became a legend in rhythmic post-industrial. there are three main parts, which shall be marked by v: gaining the consciousness that life is moving faster and faster without notice, because we're existing within the complex. the movement itself is expressed by the dance of active visitors during a performance. the support of a communicative movement gaining the understanding of proportions.
s: because of the fast development and stimulus satiation, phobias, fear, and panic-attacks are arising. one possible way to overcome this, is the stimulus-therapy, or a deliberate way daily life in which you make certain conscious decisions about what things are important.
t: observing nature, you notice the rhythm of life, which states silence and order - quite the opposite to the activity of man. our lifetime also depends on how we live our lives, and how fast we're willing to change anything.

hypnoskull is the solo-project of patrick stevens, who is formerly known as member of the duo sonar (together with dirk ivens - dive, ex-klinik). hypnoskull still exists since 1992 in the international tape-nettworkscene and patrick stevens is known for his extravagant multimedia installation's and video-performances as well as his harsh sonic bombs. hypnoskull fits perfectly to concept of the other ant-zen label-mates like p·a·l, noisex, imminent starvation, ars moriendi, synapscape. he combines the power of pure analogue electronics with harsh rhythm structures - an anarchic assault of noise, electronic abuse and techno-industrial. besides the sonic output 'rhythmusmaschine 1/2' is also a concept album about media manipulation and noise terrorism.

this project was founded in 1993 as a colaboration of the former cult-project ars moriendi by p. münch (synapscape) and a. schramm (asche). the aim of tg's is a very dense, ritual-ambient one. in 1995 a. börner (morgenstern) joined this project. they made several interesting live-performances all over germany. actually templegarden's is organized as a loose collective with several friends, so the sound-variety has become enormous, but always in the mystic ritual sector. old fairytales, nature, magic places and the unexplainable are their main inspirations. most of the sounds are a result of sampled ethno-loops, a convertion from natural analog datas to digital. so the technical aspect of this project becomes a symbol for the dialectical relationship between nature and (industrial) culture, which can be experienced in those special templegarden’s atmosphere: the impression of ritual-emotional maturalness, which we’re all seeking for, is satisfied by the result of a technical cultural act.

silk saw (marc mœdea and gabriel séverin), a remittent duo who's working desperately hard to cut the edges of music, like this: peregrinations through the abstract, shuffle and superposition of cards, movements of objects, scissors that we grind, tamping, clean sweep of the idiots, pretences, confrontation between the weak and the strong, smooth and rough, pillage and recuparation, laugh at first, then destruction of the mountain according to rule. this enterprise requires the refusal of compromise. thus, silk saw is not a turkish delight for everybody. seriously, let's say that the duo is trying more and more to translate in sounds an intern climate, the humming of the body singing of his own way, the basic vibration, deaf and omnipresent, but that words can't almost never formulate. then, music (in the ordinary meaning) doesn't have so much importance; remain only the impulse, the beating/recognition signal of the body, the ultimate billow wich 'll make us overturn: it gets tipsy and is about to provoke nausea.
all this was already present in jardin d'usure, first project of our two noise makers, but without the groove. a more dadaist (more impertinent) process and in french, wich started 10 years ago. the result at this moment: some performances, a cd (with interpretations of dada poems from hugo ball), refered in marc dachy's book about dada (nrf) and some tracks on compilations (see discography below), 1 hour video (radio days of panic), a t.v. appearance of 7 min. in a broadcast about chaos (intérieur nuit, rtbf (belgian t.v.), 1996 and the soundtrack for le paysagiste, a short by dominique lohle (b.)
1995. after (during) this adventure of jardin d'usure, the duo wanted to become different and to turn towards a larger scene, taking advantage of the opening made by new musical currents. so, at the original project of jardin d'usure, the duo added a more rythmic work. further more, some references to scientific research, especially in the nuclear domain, clearly appear in the silk saw recordings wich stigmatise, non without a touch of humour, the utopia of the scientific process and the inherent dangers in it.
a remark: the cost of all expenses for the 2 first years of silk saw was kindly support by the fonds de la sécurité technique des installations nucléaires du ministère de l'emploi et du travail and by the fonds pour la protection contre les radiations ionisantes du ministère des affaires sociales, de la santé publique et de l'environnement, by way of an exceptional ground. it allowed us some concerts, a live recording for the dutch well known broadcast vpro radio 5 "de avonden" (july 1997), 2 albums, a 12" and some tracks on compilations (see discography below). 2 albums (1 cd and 1 vinyle) will be soon published by ant-zen (september 1998) and later a third cd on sub rosa: the music is now more bare, dense and abstract.

Converter is the brainchild of scott sturgis, an ohio based one man electro-consortium and also the force behind the project pain station. converter investigates the industrial field, without denying its roots. his debut features ten tracks of hard hitting, noise tinged electro-industrial that reflects scott's growing interest in such rhythm-driven sound and represents a mature work in the same vein as other artists of the ant-zen family as p·a·l, imminent starvation and noisex, as well as well known rhythmic noise innovators like dive and esplendor geometrico.
"shock front" is loaded with infectious, and penetrating rhythms begging to light the way to the dancefloors. tracks like "conqueror", "shock front" and "denogginizer" assault the listeners with a mutated strain of machine-driven rhythms and a turbulent downpour of torrential electronics which create an infectious hybridization that demands movement on the dancefloors. bombastic rhythms are coupled with tweaked synths to create an atmosphere of distorted aggression and the burning fires of this inferno will show no mercy in their relentless attack on your senses. sturgis creates paranoid, intense and threatened atmospheres incorporating elements of power noise and analogue electronics. the result causes anger and frustration, a battering of synths with distorted beats which pound out a message of rage and pain. the force behind this project is stronger than any avalanche and is reinforced by a wall of impenetrable percussion on nearly every track. the listener is baited and lured into the labyrinth of soul-penetrating anthems driven by electronic abuse and violation. after listening to this debut you feel like you've just witnessed the death by electrocution of the world's most evil mass murderer.
with the release of "shock front", converter will place itself on the forefront of the so called power noise movement in one single step and proves how complex and massive this music can be. a project to watch out for, not only for its musical talent, but also for what it will do to the U.S. industrial scene.

black lung's darkest ambient distortion debut from '94.
black lung, hailing from the great continent of australia, is the brainchild of david thrussell alias snog. their lyrics show a strong disillusionment with the western ideals of materialism and mass ownership, a stance which is bound to enrage the "gimme" sensibilities of american capitalism. despite their apparently radical inclinations, david doesn't regard his lyrics as political, but rather as simple and rather obvious social observations. he doesn't claim to have any revelationary secrets, but sees his lyrics as a frank examination of our humanity struggling within itself. in 1995, david thrussell opened his black lung project with the debut album 'silent weapons for silent wars', he also appeared with pieter bourke (of eden and dead can dance) as soma, whose releases include the hollow earth and the inner cinema. he unabashedly supports the right of sampling, and openly promotes the sampling of his own material by other artists.

it's most certainly not a case of "that difficult successor" for a good album "so what" is, if anything, even more impressive than their last album. it retains the chaos, density and energy of "rage" and still unites an incredible vast spectrum of noises and structures from dark sounddrones and powerful electronic rhythms up to ambient soundscapes but moderates it a little by adding a stronger rhythmic element that holds everything together much more cohesively than on their predecessor.
the album gets off with the title track "so what", a well-crafted danceable track, with some noisey tunes and distorted, half-spoken vocals in their unmistakable manner. "new order", by contrast, is a remarkably light and relaxed track with a distinctive grooving percussion, darkly fuzzy bass line hinting and hypnotizing sequences. this track has been perfectly converted by video-artist clemens von wedemeyer into a thrilling visual story. which is available as quicktime video file (for pc and mac) on disk two. "7th sect", is another driving dance track, with some wonderfully crunchy percussion battering away behind harsh bursts of electronics and assorted burbles and twangs. a very impressing track, dense and powerful.. "discorode", a fusion of energetic, high bpm rhythms, precisely placed with reference points for the dancefloor to be followed by the next notable track "second sect" which is a little more conventional. further demands for energetic force and distorted rhythms can be satisfied with tracks like "i know you know" and "7th sect", which justify the aggressive and anarchic title of the album.
disc one is underlaid by tense, electronic chittering and all sorts of great noises, from lush synth washes to harsh bursts of electronics which cross-breed the disparate and varied influences of the band's members. the tracks vie for the listener's attention, along with distorted vocals and something that might've been a "harmless" beat before synapscape`s musical mutagens got at it. it's rich, multilayered, chaotic and marvellous.
this isn't the case for disc two, the noisy rhythmic battery grinds down into relaxed contemporary beats fused with obscure soundscapes and mutated noises. it features mainly instrumental contributions in a darker and ambient like mood. combined with the visual story for "new order" you certainly have an excellent audio & visual final for an eventful record!

morgenstern's dark music consists of strange, hypnotic loops, distorted power electronics and heavy death industrial tunes. deep drones with occasional samples are slowly transformed into a quiet wind tunnel groan with sporatic choes of thumps and bumps from far off objects in the background. the music flows into a rythmic tribal drum ceremony where various pitches of wind noise through a pipe are layered in while electrodes snap, a rythmic helicopter sounds and firecrackers pop. war torn screams and cries are blended way into the background. tribal powerelectronic-rhythms & dark ambient: from ceremonial processions to hypnosis and hysteria, being relaxed on the outside and at the same time restless on the inside.
morgenstern was founded in '93 as the solo project of andrea börner, who was also a member of the legendary project 'ars moriendi' (1990-95). she's still a part of the ambient project 'templegardens'. the recording of 'zyklen' was actively supported by p. münch (synapscape) and a. schramm (asche) and recorded / processed within the cycle of one year.
everything has a beginning and an ending and it starts once again.

the destructive force of this sound and the ravages of time developed disastrous consequences on olivier moreau`s mixing desk, it began to malfunction and has been replaced. this is the last recording with imminent starvation's 'original heart', the mixing desk, which provided a very special mood. the 'heart' of his musical output has been dismantled in pieces, as heritage for his fans, each piece of it can be found in the boxes of the special edition. his heart has bas been given to you!

'release' is a caustic bubble of beats and sub-bass sounds mixed with electronic weirdness and mechanical brilliance. a gently controlled chaos is layered upon a cloud of subliminal melodies and dark hypnotic textures with analogue bleeps and warbles. 'release' is refreshingly simple and complex in its construction by combining pounding, bass-heavy rhythms and hammering taps with fragmented noises and vocal samples. this is pure soundscaping, layering to silence and back. 'release' is the third full-length album by p•a•l and so far it's the most personal one.

over the years, certain journalists have asserted that the cia has mastered a technology called rhic-edom. rhic means "radio hypnotic intra-cerebral control." edom stands for "electronic dissolution of memory." together, these techniques can--allegedly--remotely induce hypnotic trance, deliver suggestions to the subject, and erase all memory for both the instruction period and the act with the subject is asked to perform. rhic uses the stimoceiver, or a microminituarised offspring of that technology, to induce a hypnotic state. edom is nothing more than "missing time" itself--the erasure of memory from consciousness through the blockage of synaptic transmission in certain areas of the brain. if rhic-edom exists, it goes a long way toward providing an earthbound rationale for alien abductions--or, at least, certain aspects of them. the phenomenon of "missing time" is no longer mysterious. abductee implants, both intracerebral and otherwise, are explained. and note the reference to a "recurring hypnotic state, reinduced automatically by the same radio command." this situation may account for "repeater" abductees who, after their initial encounter, have regular sessions of "missing time" and abduction--even while a bed-mate sleeps undisturbed.

a collection of electronic minimalism, pure-tone synthesis and computer-generated sound. this music explores the inner-workings of sound and synthesis and often involves the use of ultra-modern synthesis techniques, in this case, sampling and sound generators. this is experimental post-techno, an up-and-coming genre of sound, and it is intended for the listener who can appreciate its bold sense of exploration, as well as the surreal beauty of the world it evokes. it's the fragile line between dark and light, between noise and silence, between infinity and nonentity. complex digital sound-samples are immaculately re-constructed to feature a subtle interference of sub-tone minimalism. pushing the envelope while keeping full control and animate the auditory senses.
a scientific bridge between sinetone minimalism and sonic mega-sampling which could be visualised as digital ambient.

rictus growed five years now and was collected & produced by olivier moreau aka imminent starvaton and the performance artist c-drìk. in the early 90ies axiome was the first musical platform for both of the artists and now they de-construct together again. rictus is the firstborn, which was never finished before. an unspoken chaos just started to penetrate your disfunction.

Announcing asche’s latest release “distorted disco” is by far the most difficult enterprise of the last months. beware - this record includes everything you’ve ever experienced in your musical life. “distorted disco” is on one hand the musical interpretation of asche’s visual works, a soundtrack for imaginary movies, and on the other hand a vast mixture of simply any modern electronic musical style. not easy to approach, “distorted disco” combines roughness and variety and therefore is an excellent herald of the real 21st century. “distorted disco” - the album’s title basically says it all. eleven tracks featuring at least one “common” style in each and every track. starting off with deep, droning, dark ambient influences over distorted beats, harsh rhythms and voices (“hello? anybody there?”). “distorted disco” reaches a first climax with a feedback orgy, heavy beats (machines!) reminiscent of some older logic records stuff, quickly followed by pure power electronics, loops and obscure voice samples. then - short recovery phase - chill out-like rhythms encounter deep house beats, again followed by big beats giving reminiscence to legendary drum and bass artists. furthermore there’s irritating feedback, frightening sounds, high-frequency oscillating noise and a detroit techno track mills would be proud of ... to put it simply - “distorted disco” is a mature challenge for the modern, intelligent listener - both working in the clubs or at home. asche zu asche - disco to disco.

Finally the french project celluloid mata delivers its first longplayer on ant-zen. after having released on various other labels and last year’s release 'acti-room' (act95) - with ultra milkmaids as well as the highly acclaimed 'escaped from room 7' lp, 'sable' is the consequent follow-up to 'la connectique' which had been released on hymen as a 12”.
'sable' offers 16 state-of-the-art rhythmic post-power electronics intelligent dance music. although repetitive and harsh beats dominate the record, 'sable' has more to offer than a simple power electronics album: starting off with doom frequencies and a nearly dark ambient track the record climaxes in technoid, high-speed beats and rhythms without losing track on the chosen path - modernist soundscapes with a scent of 'intelligent', slow motion drum and bass ingredients - ending in a somehow warm and relaxing atmosphere. variety is the magic word on 'sable'.
celluloïd mata have probably made their most interesting and differential work skipping through various styles, on the one hand deep, haunting drones interrupted by disturbing noises whereas, on the other hand, hectic, danceable beats and rhythms dominate the scenery. nevertheless, 'sable' must be above all regarded as a new standard for the intelligent dance music genre as well as a masterpiece for the rhythmic power electronics scene.

this fourth full length release is yet another masterpiece by this extraordinary canadian artists – and we hope that you are a lucky owner of the ‘perimetre 3+10’ set released on ant-zen in 1999, because ‘episodes’ is a part of a bigger piece of work which includes ‘perimetre 3+10’ and the ‘episodes’ boxset. the boxset contains a 5” vinyl entitled ‘perimetre 5’. a schedule explaining on how to listen to all of these items as a whole is included in the cd booklet - no wonder it took vromb almost three years to create the sounds and artwork.
it has been vromb’s intention since ‘le facteur humain’ that the text on each release should add to the music. furthermore, the text should be be lingually understood. as such, the writings on each release are translated into french, english and german.
musically ‘episodes’ follows the path that vromb started with ‘le facteur humain’ and has continued developing during the last five years. the end result has been a hypnotising combination of dark, atmospheric soundscapes, rhythms and voices. also with ‘episodes’ you get the feeling that you are listening to a soundtrack that has yet to be done.

if you have known ant-zen for a long time then it is possible that you also remember the 'xerosma' vinyl compilation album (which has been deleted for many years). this compilation contained a track by a totally unknown project named azure skies and now four years later we finally have the first full-length album.
azure skies is a collaboration between members of the well-known swedish projects mental destruction and sanctum. mental destruction's roughness is combined with the melodic varieties of sanctum, and the result is an astonishing mixture. metallic percussion lines, droning distorted rhythmic walls of sound, dark melodies, sometimes eruptive vocals and more make this album remarkable. it is a new breeze on the industrial dance floor as well as an amazing listening experience for those at home (especially after a hard day's work).

the firstborn has grown up. and axiome (aka olivier moreau of imminent and performance artist c-drik) developed dramatically. the intense rhythmic straightforward distorted percussion has been put aside and replaced by structured feedbacks, samples and tremendous loops.
' ça ne nous rendra pas le congo' is different - different by all means. here subliminal sounds dominate the scenery - the effort has been put here not on the violence of the tracks, but more on the adequation of the ensembles of sounds. on first sight this is still unstructured, unspoken chaos (the reminder of “rictus”) - here it is uncomfortable ambience overlaid with reduced machine rhythms and schizophrenic metamorphoses.
' ça ne nous rendra pas le congo' generates a hypnotising, trance like atmosphere adding resonant vibrations and looping samples at best to reach a certain state of intensity. axiome’s ability in creating sounds resides in their vicious use of noises to hit your nerves at the most unexpected moments and stimulate your vulnerable brain cells while influencing the palpitating tempo of your tender heart.

after such renowned and highly acclaimed records like “screenwalking (w /imminent)”, “so what”, the “remix item”, “rage”, “helix” and “synapscape” the latest album “positive pop” will surely convince the last critics. “positive pop” combines basically any style and sound synapscape has been standing for since ever – the different pop approach.
having gained tremendous experience through various side projects and thus having reached such a high status within the post-industrial scene, synapscape is giving the listener what the listener deserves and of course expects from the state-of-the-art visually as musically artists.
“positive pop” consists of 13 excellent structured tracks ranging from synapscape’s ambience over distorted vocalised tracks, always with a rhythmical touch and a scent of dancefloor. the multi-layered distortions have been put more in the background whereas melodies and rhythm have been given more attention in the foreground – an overall never heard symbiosis of hard, harsh, rhythmical tracks and droning, deranged ambience. not to speak of the incredible production – here, enormous emphasis has been put on and your speakers will be put to a hard test.

morgenstern was founded in '93 as the solo project of andrea börner, who was also a member of the legendary project 'ars moriendi' (1990-95). she's still a part of the ambient project 'templegarden's'. two fellow members of ars moriendi/templegarden's provide supporting roles on this 'cold' - a. schramm (asche) and p. münch (synapscape).

between hugo girard's legendary live appearance at the 'mutek' festival in montreal/canada and the 'maschinenfest 02' in aachen/germany, ant-zen presents this nicely designed tourne-disque in two different formats.
'le tourne-disque' is more beat oriented which fits perfectly to vromb's live sets, but it will come as no surprise to those who own vromb's earlier works. girard's music contains minimal electro rhythmic explorations beyond cold atmospheric soundscapes.
there are also manipulated voices on this record - hugo girard implements the spoken words of his infant relatives frédérique and philippe.

hoola hopz is the title of their first release under that name and it won’t be their last one.
the five tracks on this 10” generate a chilling psychedelic mood with constantly changing loops that are supplemented with noise clicks and minimal rhythm dots.
this is the finest in electronica.
this is not a ten-minute-static-ambient-one-rhythmic-pattern, as there is always a slight change with new details that do not interrupt the entire composition.
even while you concentrate on the “catchy” details, the melodies creep up on you subliminally.
this is winter music --- let yourself go. don’t try to hoola hoop to this as the only activity besides listening is playing the record over and over again.

this is celluloid mata, yet again surfing on sound waves and presenting a compilation of mostly released tracks. this is not a ‘best of’ sampler, as ‘spectrum’ is more of a dossier of tracks, which are hard to find. all of the cd tracks of this double set (and most of the vinyls) are not available anymore. instead of a re-release of all lost items, this is the essence of the past.
the direction of cd1 is focussed on heavily distorted rhythms that are monotonous, minimal, and repetitive. however, you can always hear mata’s experience in the building up of an electrified analog beat in concert with the unique elements of a track or of a song. listen to ‘the council’ featuring sheila mata’s voice and you will understand mata’s craftiness. this cd ends with an unreleased remix by two ant-zen artists which lead the listener to the non-rhythmic soundscape of cd2. these soundscapes illustrate mata’s melodic direction with the use of disturbing mostly non-distorted rhythm-loops that are overlayed with harmonious passages. ‘trinity test’ is a good example of the genres ‘rhythm industrial’ and ‘ambient’ overlapping perfectly. once again you can hear sheila mata on ‘the cyborg’ -- threatening indeed. the very end is strictly rhythm – just before you drift into bliss... or start again with cd1.
‘spectrum’ covers all parts of mata – diversification and variation with satisfaction guaranteed. you won’t find a single ‘sable’ track in this package!

templegarden’s was founded in 1993 with the aim of producing very dense and ritual-ambient sounds.
actually tg's is an organised loose collective featuring a. schramm, a.börner and p.münch along with several friends. the sound-variety has become enormous, but it still remains in the ritual sector.
old myths, nature, magic places and the unexplainable are their main inspirations.
their second cd release ‘done rooms’ sounds as if it has been recorded in a cave or crypt; treated voices, hypnotising rhythms and atmospheric soundscapes mix with dark non threatening aural sculptures. this is an addendum to ‘regular’ spiritual music, and is extremely removed from boring ‘new age’ sounds.
