I originally had wanted this to be Protector 101's 2nd release and making it a full LP. Well, that was over a year ago and nothing has been done with these tracks!! See... what happened was my "sound" changed. I had just started the Protector 101 project so I was still finding myself at the time so to speak. My initial vision of P101 has changed quite a bit since I started. The project has gone from "dance" tunes to "soundtrack" style while keeping those hard hitting beats as you can see with the progression of this release. So that was the problem. I wasn't making this "style" of the genre anymore so they just sat there, collecting digital dust. So instead of doing nothing with these tracks I give you the closest completion of 'Neoncholy' there is. I was hesitant but I've also included the very first P101 track (Neon Highway) as a bonus for your pleasure/displeasure! It's crude and it's horrible, but at least it can give you a vision of where it all started. Best regards,

These are The Wastelands. ### After working on clean skyscrapers, neon lights and androids from my previous sci-fi concept album, Hunter's Journey, I felt like I needed to get my hands dirty. I started watching a lot of post-apocalyptic movies from the 80s and early 90s and that really filled my head with tons of imagery and ideas for music. After writing a couple of tracks I had this idea that; What if there were these different gangs in this post-apocalyptic setting and they each had their own songs... their own “themes” so to speak? Well after finishing those tracks I had to tie them together somehow. Next thing I know I have about an hours worth of audio to a soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist! Wastelands has been one heck of a beast to complete! We eventually ended up contacting one another and at the time he had mentioned he was finishing up this movie called "COLLAR" which was an ultra violent throw back to grindhouse and films like "I Spit On Your Grave". Ryan asked if I'd be interested in writing the score for the film. Being that this kind of stuff is right up my alley I of course said accepted! One of the biggest challenges with the soundtrack was that due to distribution reasons and others of that nature I only had one month to completely finish the soundtrack and being that COLLAR needed about 80 minutes worth of audio it was a grueling months time. Also due to the subject matter that meant I had to deal with hours upon hours of watching rape, slashing, gouging, cannibalism, rape, rape, oh... and did I mention rape? Over and over again I sat down while syncing music. It was an interesting to say the least. That being said I did have a blast and it was a great experience to be able to work with Ryan and his crew. It gave me a chance to compose really dark drone music, something I had been craving to do at the time. The soundtrack was completely made with Synth1 software (other than a few sound effects and drums). I usually use Synth1 anyways but I couldn't see any other music software to get the effect I was looking for. The film is dark, disgusting, and bloody. I needed a VST that could produce gritty, dark noise. Synth1 was able to do this for me. Because of this I didn't want the soundtrack to sound crystal clean. It had to be imperfect, distorted, if the sound peaked or got into the "red zone" I let it. I think this helped transfer the chaotic tension within the film. Enjoy the dark drones... Theme (5:03) It was over a year ago, a little bit after I did the mini-soundtrack to "Paperboy 3: The Hard Way" when Newt Wallen came to me and asked if I would like to score his next film, "GEEKS, GIRLS, GUNS, and GHOULS", a film about a couple of dudes hunting for the infamous arcade cabinet, "Polybius" and inevitably opening up a portal to hell with it. Again... Much like the Paperboy 3 plot, how could I turn this wonderful short film down? With another quick deadline to make and having the video footage in my hands I went at it! I envisioned each section, Geeks, Girls, etc... would have their own theme so to speak, these sections were more upbeat but I also ending up writing these little dark drone-ish vignettes that tied these sections together. This caused the release to become very "polar". Dark and light. It was a great juxtaposition, much like the film itself. After I was done I sent the audio off to Newt. I always felt that I could have done so much more with the soundtrack. I had these wonderful tunes but because of such a strict deadline to make at the time I only had time to make parts of the songs that played in the video. None of the tracks were fully 100% complete. While working on TPD EP I really wanted to keep the concept that each
Directive had it's own track and leave it at that but that came at a price. Not only was I limited to how many tracks I could add to the release but I also had these additional tracks just sitting here; and that's what they did. They sat there doing nothing... Until now! This version of TPD has been completely remastered and overhauled. Each original track has received a full makeover. “Serve The Public Trust" has a fuller sound with stereo panning, "Protect The Innocent" has a heavier and more sinister vibe, "Uphold The Law" has a updated guitar solo and the drums have a more live feel to them, and "(Classified)" just hits harder
overall. The alternate version of the intro gives the album a totally different vibe right from the start, "Serve The Public Trust" is faster with a different solo, and "Protect The Innocent" sounds completely different compared to the version that made it to the original release. It has an heavy industrial vibe with longer use of samples. Fans of Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly will probably dig this version. Although mastered for this release, I'd like to let the listeners know that these alternate versions are kind of in a "demo state" as they were never fully fleshed out all the way but the structure and concept of the tracks is all there. "Midnight Grooves" never made it because it didn't fit my vision of the overall album, it’s a homage of sorts to the club scene from Robocop. Last but not least is the totally killer remix by my good friend and talented producer, COGEX. He takes the track "Protect the Innocent" to a whole new level and makes it really stand out by itself in pure awesomeness. With all that being said please enjoy this remastered re-release of

But the email was real, the contacts within that email were real, and it turns out one of the producers had heard Protector 101 and has been a fan for sometime! What they were looking for were composers to score the reboot cartoon of Voltron and asked if I'd be interested in trying out for it. Of course I said yes! What they needed from me (and each person they were trying out) was a music reel. Something to show off what I was capable of doing musically... Soundscapes, action scenes, comedy, dark and light scenes... the whole gamut. We chatted about the score a bit and we both agreed it should sound as authentic as possible to an 80s horror movie score. Inspirations were films like The Burning, Don't Go In The Woods, and numerous John Carpenter films. This was what I intended to accomplish and I think it turned out pretty darn good. The interesting thing about Brad's films is the offbeat humor. It pushed me as a composer to think on how to accomplish keeping the sound of dread with pockets of humor thrown here and there. All in all I think the final product turned out great and the tracks seem to compliment each other rather well. Expect synth drones, melancholy melodies, high pitched stingers, and a dash of humor.
