Formed in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1980 by Tracy Howe, former drummer for Montreal punk bands The Normals (later Heaven Seventeen) and synthesizer players Bill Vorn and Mario Spezza. The latter was eventually replaced by Kevin Komoda, who in turn left the group in 1983, and was replaced by bassist Denis Duran. They reunited for a synth-pop festival in Sweden in 1997 and were officially revived by Tracy Howe in 1998 with Jean-Claude Cutz and Dave Rout, both ex-members of Digital Poodle, recording their comeback after fourteen years.
Kevin Komoda rejoined the band during 2012-2014, but the current line-up consists only of Tracy Howe and his wife Gaenor Howe.

The album revived interest in Canada's original synthpop band worldwide, leading to Rational Youth's reunion shows in Sweden, a boxset release, and press from AllMusic, Side-Line, Prospective Music, Exclaim!, and many others. The title track was recently featured in an updated remix on the 15 anniversary reprint of Have Not Been the Same: The CanRock Renaissance 1985-1995, published by Toronto's ECW Press. The famous Canadian rock encyclopedia also included a companion CD which featured Rational Youth along with Jane Siberry, Sloan, The Grapes of Wrath, Skydiggers and many others. With the CD now out of print and the album celebrating its 10 year anniversary in 2014, Artoffact Records issues a special vinyl version of To The Goddess Electricity. The new edition is remastered for vinyl and will include updated cover art, two previously unreleased bonus tracks, and an MP3 download code. The vinyl edition comes in three colours: black, blue, and yellow. Limited to 300 copies worldwide. "Howe has always been a gifted writer, but on this album the personal material gives his writing an edge not found on previous Rational Youth."

Rational Youth reunited for their first shows in Europe in well over a decade, supported by fellow-Canadian, though now long-time ex-pats Psyche. Both artists have a dedicated fan-following, and whether you take Unveiling the Secret or Cold War Night Life, The Crawler or Holiday in Bangkok, both artists have left an undeniable mark on the synthpop scene both in Canada and in Europe. We are not really sure who came up with the admittedly kitsch idea of covering the AC/DC classic Thunderstruck, but after seeing it performed live as an encore from Stockholm to Malmo, we were sold. The familiar melody makes a killer analogue synthline, and the vocal performances by Tracy Howe and Darrin Huss are bang-on. Surely, tongues are firmly planted in cheeks on this one, but you've never had more fun, and after all that is what synthpop is all about. It's also a revenge song of sorts: Psyche's Synthpop revenge on all those years of bullying by AC/DC fans for listening to New Wave stuff like Gary Numan while in high school. By having fun with such an iconic stadium rock tune, the artists are bridging a gap in diversity. The exclusive b-side Underrated is an original track that combines the best elements of Psyche and Rational Youth, with Howe's almost deadpan style creating the perfect counterpoint to Huss' crooning. Underrated is a spontaneous electro wonder created by Kevin Komoda, and brought to a frenetic final statement on unsung heroes by Darrin, Tracy, as well as Gaenor Howe on vocals. The 7" vinyl is released on Artoffact Records in three colours: 1. Shot-glass clear, limited to 100 copies.
