Composer and producer Robert Logan was introduced to Slowfoot Records by producer Ivor Guest, who, impressed by such an obvious talent, invited him to the studio to contribute beats and textures for Grace Jones' forthcoming album. They have since collaborated on a number of projects including Oscar and Emmy nominated soundtracks. His first album ‘Cognessence’ prompted an array of rave reviews and support. Still only 19 at the time he was described as “…something of a prodigy… a man that is already showing a maturity and a musical/textural understanding that many simply never find.” . Mary Anne Hobbs called his music “Absolutely outstanding… …impossible to quantify” , DJ Mag his album “The essential last word in electronic soundscapes”. A second album ‘Inscape’ and a clutch of EP’s garnered yet more praise and cemented his reputation as an artist with immense talent and one worth keeping a very close eye on in the future. ‘Extasis EP’ is his much anticipated first release since 2009 and marks his return after a period that has seen him divert his attention to composing music for film and TV, including, most notably, one Oscar winning and one Oscar nominated documentary and another for which his soundtrack was nominated for an Emmy – as well as contributing music to various award winning dramas. He has also been busy applying his magic touch to recordings by the likes of Brigitte Fontaine, Skye and Grace Jones, collaborating with ambient pioneer Steve Roach and Raf & O, whilst rolling out the occasional mind-bending remix. His music is an intelligent fusion of influences from folk, medieval and classical to krautrock and electronica. He blends acoustic and electronic instruments and sound sources including voices and field recordings, and he has developed an intuitive and fluid use of digital production tools through which he squeezes, teases and shapes this material. His complex and restless rhythms carry an echo of his half Hungarian backround and its rich musical history. His production skills are edge of the seat, playful and asymmetrical - a powerful assimilation of recent trends that mellows with repeated listens to reveal a strong melodic instinct. BBC review of Cognessence 'Like Photek before him, Robert Logan has discovered his dark side at a tender age and has found an electronic, yet very deep and curiously moving means of expression. The touchstones are there - Kraftwerk (natch), The Boards of Canada, Eno, Vibert, Photek, but they are really just signposts along the way, showing possible directions that give you a sense of knowing where you are and where you are going...but a journey through Logan's mind is clearly never going to be that straightforward. Brooding, swirling, swathes of sound come at you from all directions, underpinned by some seriously deep base and twisting beats. But it never feels out of control or flabby. There is a rigorous standard to the programming and editing that exerts an incredible sense of control yet also allows real feelings to germinate and blossom in the listener - ranging from the paranoia of ''Lost Highway'' to the positively scary ''Budapest''. This is the link between the completely urban, dancefloor focused scenes of grime, ragga, dubstep and the industrial/suburban landscape of teenage bedrooms, twitching curtained cul-de-sacs and the discovery of the inner life. The ability to create a dark, brooding ambience is nothing new, but the ability to take this and grow an organic world around it whilst pushing you almost...but not quite...onto the dancefloor marks out Robert Logan as something of a prodigy. Already drafted in to work on textures and beats for the next Grace Jones album, Robert Logan is a man that is already showing a maturity and a musical/textural understanding that many simply never find.' http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/9b54 - Cognessence

"The essential last word in electronic soundscapes." [DJ magazine] "Fraught and broody... ...Logan is versatile and imaginative." [The Wire] "There are few signs of innocence in his sophisticated debut, either, with Logan taking on the stylistic might of titans such as Massive Attack and Autechre... ...there seems to be little out of reach for such prodigious, sure-footed talent." [Flavorpill] "Teenage laptop tricksters debut... ...brooding fractured rhythms and dark electronic atmospheres..." *** [Q magazine] "Absolutely outstanding...impossible to quantify" [Mary Anne Hobbs - BBC Radio 1] "Robert Logan is another one of those dudes who you'll grow to become envious of over time. Repeated listens to his debut Cognessence stir up a bittersweet mixture of awe and envy. This cat is 19 and he's doing things in his garden shed with distortion and electronics that makes speakers quake in a very different way." - [Rock A Rolla] "The only discernible influences I can ascertain on this rollercoaster of dark ambient/post-industrialism are perhaps the moody paranoia of Massive Attack or the muddy, mashed up rhythms of Amon Tobin, but Cognessence is so rich and varied in its moods, and so thoughtfully and expertly textured, that the results pretty much transcend the requirement for comparisons – the album sits entirely on a ledge of its own." [Barcode] "This is kind of awesome. The last word in studious electronica's re-imagining of Grime and Dubstep. At moments it is preposterously architectured, like a housing estate built by Iannis Xenakis hellbent on fully exploring the possibilities of concrete." [Woebot] "Excellent record all around, one that only gets more intensely rewarding with time." "Inscape is a technically impressive piece of work, and a treat for all sets of ears that pine after flamboyant, intricate electronica." [Boomkat] "Robert Logan's music is assured, airbrushed, solidly built and cockily inclusive, gathering Old Skool rhythmic science, technoid shivers and Gothic interludes into its inky, brooding embrace... ...periodically reminiscent of 'intelligent drum'n'bass' landmarks like Photek's 'Modus Operandi'" [The Wire] "At times Logan's drumwork recalls the finer moments of modern day, studio heavy Massive Attack but it's his knack of infusing the manic into his music without making it a mess that is one of his strongest attributes" [Rock A Rolla] "Those familiar with Robert Logan’s work will know what a pioneering force he is on the electronic music scene: he makes dark, resonating electronic compositions suited to the abandoned areas of dank cities, the hazy glow of bedrooms in streetlight, and the darkest part of the uncertain subconscious... ...BBC Online said of Logan that he is “…something of a prodigy… a man that is already showing a maturity and a musical/textural understanding that many simply never find.” And frankly, I couldn’t agree more." [Buzzin Electronic Music] "Logan’s first album Cognessence was described as “the essential last word in electronic soundscapes” but I would say that Inscape is the essential first word in electronic soundscapes as he’s ripped up the rule book with this one and started again." [Fly Global] "...Robert Logan keeps his creations on a tight leash, though; it's all choreographed scissor-kicks, controlled texture-bleeding, with a dexterity of sound design beyond the brutalism of the cut-and-shut splice-and-dice merchants of mentalism..." [Igloo Mag] "Logan’s is a career that I will be watching with interest as a man with this much skill and talent is set for very big things." [experimusic] "Appropriately, this journey into the depths of Inscape is entirely unique, and it is a joy to experience." [The Founder] "Logan’s music is strong enough to standout on its own" [Headphone Commute] --------------------------------------------------------------------- Credits All tracks composed, performed and produced by Robert Logan Exact Audio Copy V1.0 beta 3 from 29. Robert Logan – Extasis (06:22) ‘Extasis EP’ is Robert Logan’s much anticipated first release since 2009 and marks his return after a period that has seen him divert his attention to composing music for film and TV, including one Oscar winning and one Oscar nominated documentary. He has also been busy applying his magic touch to recordings by the likes of Brigitte Fontaine, Skye [Morcheeba] and Grace Jones, collaborating with ambient pioneer Steve
Roach and Raf & O, whilst rolling out the occasional mind- bending remix. The music on ‘Extasis EP’ bears all the hallmarks of classic Logan – razor-sharp programming, a mastery of sonic architecture coupled with a strong melodic instinct. His production skills have up to now led him to being favorably compared to giants of electronic music such as Autechre, Amon Tobin, Massive Attack and Aphex Twin, amongst others. Logan has a wider range of references, a restless urge to push sonic boundaries and a desire to challenge himself and his audience - in the process creating a sound that is entirely his own.Tracks on the EP range from the skittering arpeggios of ‘Iris’, with its faint echoes of early Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, to the grimey sci-fi hip-hop shuffle of ‘Bear Beat’, to the infectious bounce of ‘MSIPY’ – a moody homage to minimal techno. The EP will be followed by Logan’s third full length album ‘Flesh’ which is due for release in the autumn. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Credits All music composed, performed and produced by Robert Logan ----------------------- foobar2000 1.3.10 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 Flesh

Transfigure (03:44) ‘Flesh’ is Logan’s third full-length album and sees him further develop his idiosyncratic sound whilst continuing to open up new possibilities within the field of electronic music. As ever, Logan’s methodology is rooted in an obsessive desire to push the technology at his disposal to the limit – all his sounds are created from scratch or are created by deconstructing found sounds and acoustic instruments through extreme digital processes. Moreover, most of the album is composed using quarter tones, an experiment which is most in evidence on tracks that feature contributions from Andy Knight [Emporor’s New Clothes] on pocket trumpet. Other contributors include Sarah Sarhandi on viola and drummer Frank Byng [Snorkel, Prescott] who guests on the first three tracks and is a nod to his live band set up. This contrast between ‘live’ instrumentation and his own digital methods taps into some of the themes that Logan is exploring in the music and that give the album its title – ideas about flesh and spirit, technology and nature, mind and matter.
"The album's velocity has the stability of a high-wire walker, but despite outbreaks to the contrary, Logan's ammunition isn't stuck on autofire. Methodical pincer movements puncture sceneries like balloons, and Logan layers technology like a game of skyscraper-high Jenga ('Photovoltaics')… …Logan is out for his pound of 'Flesh', and once again comes back quids in. 8/10" [Clash] 'Flesh, his third album, a musical object so radical and daring it seems not to belong to his time.' [Trax] "meticulously produced, methodical and brilliant." [Igloo Magazine] "Flesh is like a lot of things, and yet it has a personality, a usefulness, a quality all to itself. Recommended." [Louder Than War] "If you haven’t heard his work yet, you’re in for a treat." [Space and Sound] "Flesh exemplifies a conspicuous degree of confidence and assurance. What's particularly noteworthy is that, although the hour-long collection draws upon myriad styles, among them IDM, funk, folk, classical, and electronica, Logan fuses them fluidly such that no one style asserts itself to the exclusion of others." [Textura] "…a challenging but ultimately rewarding listen; initially jolting yet meditative, the shadows it creates lure you into an all-encompassing world of unsettling dreams and hallucinogenic scenes. This is uncomfortable in a manner that intrigues and delights as much as it scares – go on, I dare you."
