Originally from La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, Gaspard de La Montagne grew up with an early interest in the mechanisms of electronic music. After trying various styles and performing in several acts, he’s currently operating in a techno/bass register with cold, dreamy, atmospheres and heavy sub-bass making his productions sound immensely relevant and exciting.
Following his highly acclaimed label debut, the ambitious and moody Pôle EP released in 2013, Gaspard de La Montagne returns this Spring 2015 with Stallion, a second EP. Although the Pôle EP was undoubtedly produced with dancefloors in mind and leans into what could easily be classified modern Pop, the new Stallion EP features two curiously optimistic-yet-hesitant sculptures of techno hybrids that wade into the deep end and are driven by well-endowed, low-end and contemplative melodies.
From a genuinely open-minded generation with incredibly varied taste, Gaspard de La Montagne brings you the best of it all as a sprawl of cross-pollinated inspiration.

From the beginning to the end it's clear that this three track EP was tastefully put together by a passionate Bass music lover to touch others of a similar inclination. The release seamlessly fuses Minimal artifacts with a Post-Step swing, with layers of organic texture, and a pinch of introspective Soul - and tops it all off with arrangements that thrive on euphoric build ups of Techno at its most effective. Although Pôle EP was undoubtedly made with healthy sound systems and packed dancefloors in mind - as the strong and relentless grooves of both Alpes and Pôle will testify - Drops, which features the sultry voice of Nathan Baumann of the band The Fawn, also leans into what could easily be classified modern Pop, and will definitely make for great late night headphone listening.
Pôle EP represents a new breed of electronic music, that which treats its listeners the way holistic doctors treat their patients - by paying attention to and taking care of their whole being: mind, body, and soul.

It's not easy to create something that sounds epic and yet doesn't veer off into cliché-riddled pathos, which is why the latest release from Gaspard de La Montagne hits so hard. It's perfect. From the first bars of the intro track "Thot" you feel like you're being pulled under by a powerful current –you're going deep. And you'll only surface once the outro track, "Canines", comes to a full stop. You could technically call this Techno, but that would diminish Gaspard de La Montagne’s unique take on the idiom.
What's unique about this EP is that these songs are amalgams of noise, noise that is extremely beautiful in sum total. This is sonic alchemy at work: the ability to turn harsh, jarring sounds into something mesmeric, breathtaking (almost quite literally). These songs are like Ad Reinhardt black on black paintings. At first they appear to be airtight, solid, impenetrable. But the longer you listen to them the more details they reveal, and in the end you find yourself in a vast universe. This is the third EP from Gaspard de La Montagne and we're quite certain that it'll find its way into late night / early morning sets of that breed of DJs who love their sound deep; but it's also just as gratifying as a headphone-listening experience.
