It features a number of tracks from previously produced EPs and weaves them all together in under a warm cloth of synth. The track Over Choice is a prime example: beginning with swirling synthesizers airing around a spoken word sample, you become accustomed to this wholly electronic sound – until the drums kick in. This kind of dynamic is there throughout both sides of this record. From the soft, low-key pulses of Trá Mhór to the almost hectic, acid-flavoured beats on Too Much Information, ‘Summer Pylon’ manages to throw out new sounds just when you need them – especially true with such a lengthy tracklist. This project is a clear example of someone making music they really love and that’s probably the best part."

Bocuma produces music filled with colourful reversed synth washes, hip-hop flavoured beats, and downright creepy sampling of vocals (particularly children) and sounds from nature. Bocuma fits somewhere into the Intelligent Dance Music (IDM) sub-genre of electronica, but it's impossible to nail them down into anything but their very own category. Protect & Survive is a multi textured sonic masterpiece. From the opening discordant melody of 'Protect & Survive (intro),' you know that the band are about to take you on a strange and wonderful journey. All of the elements that made Summer Pylon so special are present on Protect & Survive, oscillating synths from old documentaries, textures so deep and mysterious you could swim in them, tiny intricate sounds that only reveal themself on the 17th or 32nd listen, all tacked on to hazy, scratchy beats. In a word, magic!!! 'Different Me Different You’ features a shuffling beat, recorded loops, and multiplying synthesizers which culminate in a child's voice. The context of this sample makes one's skin crawl. It is utterly weird, yet tuneful and, somehow (after a few listens), accessible. Other reviewers have noted other standout tracks, such as 'Global Spark', 'Clear Head', 'Bit Addict', 'Active Spite.' Dark and provocative. This brings me to my last point. Protect & Survive is not the album you'll burn for everyone of your friends or throw on at a party. Chances are only a couple of your friends can really appreciate music like this. I personally like to listen to the album alone or in a car on a long drive. I appreciate the evolution of this band, as well as their relentless drive to remain true to their artistic vision rather than pander to the whims of a fickle audience. I've got every Bocuma release I could get my hands on, and this one is no less or more than any of the others. It stands on its own, yet fits in nicely with the whole. Worth Fighting For is an album of crisp, digital music. It feels almost like Bocuma in high-def surround sound. The way they equalize and alter their music envelops me and a warm sea glass cocoon. Every song feels like subliminal line noise is dancing through them, as if my headphones are too close to my wall and I can hear random radio singals through the electral outlet. My favorite tune as of this writing is Cliffs of Moher, not for its melody or message, but just for sheer technique. Very much unlike Protect & Survive, something about the songs on this album transport me to fading memories of glare-y, lazy, summer days and hot, quiet summer nights. The tracks are uplifting and catchy, yet timeless in a very nostalgic, and therefore almost melancholic sense. A couple of these tracks have brought tears to my eyes. Other times I have studied to these tracks, slept while the album plays on repeat, driven with it on in the car, and just sat around with them in my head all day, never once tiring of the tunes. I love this album so much, and the most stand-out tracks would have to be "1978yh", followed by "We Can Build Yoou" and "Losing Reception". The CD takes you on an almost conceptual journey though the warmer, technicolour tones of the rainbow. Those of you who are curious, new-arrivals, or those who want to introduce a loved one to this genre of music this Christmas: I strongly encourage you to purchase this album: discover one of the world's most belovedly mysterious musical secrets for yourself, while they are displaying their warmest and most inviting moods. Every track has something special about it, and the songs are most appreciated as a whole album. in 1978 on RTE2 as a test screening before the channel launched. With that being the case not many people were able to see the short 13 minute animation that only survives to this day through these stills featured below. Fans of avant garde electronica are sure to fall in love with Bocuma as you get a little introduction to his style with ‘Lonesome Shadows’. It’s a great introduction to the far out computerized soundscapes he has put together on ‘Orphans of the Sky’. Before this release we were unfamiliar with the work Bocuma, who comes to us from Ireland with this unique blend of far out electronica." The Dankles "Categorised as electronic, chill wave, ambient and down tempo, it is all of those things, and the artwork places you in an alternative world, greatly adding to the experience of travelling through Orphans of the Sky's 21 tracks. 'Solitary Experiment' is a gripping track, what you'd get if you crossed early Massive Attack with late Radiohead with the added ingredient of almost therapeutic timing in the beat. Other songs I enjoyed were 'Recalled To Life', like early experimental electronica from the late 70's, along the lines of Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene, 'Chronos' a spacey and atmospheric old school number and finally 'Revolt 86', gritty and almost edging toward hip-hop beats, an 80's New York vibe that's aided well by the voice samples." released March 8, 2015 Influenced by the animation of the same name ‘Orphans of the Sky’ originally aired on RTÉ2 in 1978 as a test screener before the channel was officially launched. Turns out quite a few, not only did the album get great feedback from fans but it left a mark on musicians who I respect and look up to. From down tempo to Dnb, Synthwave to IDM and featuring mixes from Min-Y-Llan, Akasha, McKlain, Bouvetoya, Treefingers, Nightrun87, Subatomica, Jesse Feluss, 20SIX Hundred, Echolorado, illocanblo, Sattva, Dark Stars, Johnny Yesterday, Indifferent Spaces, Aydio, Elraes, Blankless and TomboFry. Each musicians take on the track they remixed is out of this world and fits the Orphans vibe perfectly. Taking elements and moulding it in their own unique style not only paints a new picture but for the album as a whole it's a new sci-fi filled landscape begging to be explored. It's been a weird one, past releases I have always tried to get a dark underlying tone or a feeling of dread and uncertainty - whether it be forced themes to the Cold War, Chernobyl or nods to EVP and The Conet Project. For this one tho no broken rose tinted nostalgia of fear was needed as 2020 has already served up its own bundle of darkness. The start of the year this project was more upbeat in nature but 3 months in it started to take a different mold and some darker elements crept in. If anything for me it started to become an audio diary and maybe even a way of dealing with things, either way I hope you guys get a chance to check it out and enjoy some of the beats! It was fun creating the different styles based on one theme plus it added to the overall feel of the EP – which in my head was a mix tape falling from space and found washed up on a beach in the 80s… but then again, I might be slightly unhinged! A nice change of pace for myself creating a more ambient like soundtrack to suit the tranquil yet addictive feel of the game. Twisted Gravity is an arcade game, in which you use the accelerometers of the phone to change the gravity at will. I aimed to create a retro glitched out vibe with lots of C64, ZX-Spectrum and NES like beeps n doots mixed with distorted breaks n beats, which would not only compliment the games frantic action but give some depth to the quieter moments. As my first (and hopefully not the last) entry into the chip soundtrack world I hope you enjoy it as much as I did producing it. Brian Eno, Moby, the Mass Effect and FTL soundtracks for the Construct theme and for the Destruct theme I went back and listened to the dnb classics from Sub Focus, Bad Company, DJ Fresh and Concord Dawn. Been a weird one as I started it a couple of years ago, left it simmering for a good bit then went back to it just at the end of last year. I pretty much lobbed everything in this one and had so much fun mashing up the quieter ambience with the techno breakbeat metal. My main objective was to create something that was inline and had the same sort of vibe from the old MS-DOS PC games like Doom / System Shock and Quake. Their soundtracks had that beautiful blend of dark haunting soundscapes fused together with an electronic industrial rock which suited the cyberpunk worlds perfectly.
