He has a passion in creating instrumental synth music of different shapes.The work takes place in his own studio. Before his great interest in instrumental electronic music he played keyboard in various rock and pop groups, which has been very beneficial for the range in his musical creations. Johan also has experience of studio work and many years as a sound engineer on concerts, from club gigs to concerts with thousands of spectators. He had some important sound technician assignments, where for example a royalty has inaugurated an exhibition and on one occasion where a concert was performed for a president. The old school of electronic music, progressive rock and experimental music have been a great influence in making his music. Planet X (bonus track) ...... 05:38 foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 Composed in the wake of The Island, “Planet X” gets a new sound skin that satisfies a little more the musical vision of Johan Tronestam in 2018 than in 2010. And we can easily understand this need for remastering and the feelings of the Swedish synthesist because the sound fauna of this album, as much at the level of its evolutionary rhythms than its ambiances, is nourished of a diversity which is clearly heard in the different passages of this album proposed in downloadable format and in 24 Bits remaster. As the title suggests it, the listener is immersed in a cosmic universe with a series of titles focused on the concept of communication with aliens. At this level, the game of synths is quite in the tone with tasty extraterrestrial intonations while the ambio-cosmic decor is firmly established by good effects whose research is undeniable. In summary! A very good album of intelligent cosmic rock with subtly evolving rhythms which are not al i ke from one title to another but are nevertheless from the same genes.
Lively and melodious, "Contact" starts “Planet X” in mode dance. The rhythm is sharp and jerky with a series of spasmodic sequences which flow in a hatched cadence. The ambiospheric elements consist of stroboscopic filaments slightly harmonious and fascinating electronic trumpets which sound very Jean-Michel Jarre. "Evidence of life beyond Earth" follows with an ambio-cosmic introduction where a synth sings an ectoplasmic alien chant. The rhythm structure emerges after 60 seconds. A space-rock rhythm which is soft, but dangerously catchy and reminiscent of Batman's music, with a bass line which digs oval shapes zigzagging under the bites of sober electronic percussions. The synth always throws these extra-terrestrial songs in another cosmic setting very close to the influences of Jarre again. Between rock and dance music, "How to Answer" offers an approach which is difficult to pin down, both for its rhythm a nd its strange vocal melody, as well as its ambience elements. It's a good track which rolls in a rather melodious setting and a good bass line whose flow rides on a good mesh between percussion and sequences. "Response" follows with a very beautiful lunar ballad as moving as cinematographic. A very beautiful title! More in mode Cosmic Blues, "Reflections" follows with a hyper slow rhythm where are succeed harmonious synth solos. "The Star Arpeggiator" takes back the road of electronic rhythms with fire arpeggios flying in orchestral position, a bit like Tomita in Snowflakes are Dancing. The rhythm is more rock on the other hand. Knotted spasms of sequencer and vivid percussion, it hits our eardrums with beautiful synth pads which turn into good solos, always very melodious, and sound effects still in mode cosmos is strange. "They have been Here Earlier" is another good cosmic rock with a fascinating panting rhythm and synth pads in the colors of Twilight Zone. The color of the rhythmic arpeggios is of glass whereas the songs of the synths remain foggy, always close to extraterrestrial incantations. "Closer to Knowledge" offers an evolving structure. The rhythm is disjointed with percussions, which do secondary tam-tams, and sequences forged in an organic language. Synth layers blow a warm mist wind, as well as cosmic jets which constitute the essence of the ambio-cosmic elements of “Planet X”. Electric arpeggios are added and tinkle from everywhere while the language stammers on a rhythm which goes for good soft and lively cosmic rock around the 3 minutes. Here as elsewhere, Johan Tronestam waters good solos always very harmonious. "The Linguistic Gap" is the first of the 3 bonus tracks in this new version of “Planet X”. It's an ambient title carved around lush synth layers and effects knotted in a cinematic intensity vision. "Beyond our Intellect" is a nice piece of music. A kind of cosmic ballad with a slow pulsating rhythm and some nice melodies from b oth the synth and a harmonic approach finely strobe. The conclusion of this album comes with its title song still composed in the late 2000's which is a solid cosmic rock as melodious as very catchy. The influences of Jarre dominate this superb structure and end another solid album from an artist who remains at the top of his art. The first track for the project was created in March 2014. The incident in Roswell has created echoes in the rest of the world. From a news program on the radio 1947 to a world full of ideas, witnesses, facts, documentaries, books, movies, conspiracy theories, etc. I take no personal position, but I'm full of questions that have not received any answer despite government information and denial. Why should witnesses, residents, military personnel and radio owners be less credible than the state? Obviously, these were a lot of unrealistic witness stories, but aside from them persists ordinary people who experienced something different to the everyday life. "The long journey" is influenced by the astronomer and author Peter Nilson (1937-1998), and by Harry Martinson´s space poem "Aniara". ”The long journey” reflects a future where man has developed the possibility to travel to other stars. But not without misstakes. The journey becomes much longer than it was supposed to. Harry Martinson´s book Aniara ends in tragedy, with a broken spaceship out into the eternity without the ability to slow down. It was a mighty feeling to enter the room where Martin Luther translated the New Testament from Latin to German. The translation gave citizens the opportunity to have their own relationship with God and to reflect on the written word, which was not possible before. This album is a musical interpretation of the historical person Luther at a time when everything was changing. Martin Luther chose the monastic life because of a thunderstorm. He promised to give his life to God if he was saved. In 1507, Martin Luther was primed and 1508 he began teaching theology at Wittenberg University. He later ended up in a serious confrontation with the Catholic church. He despised the way the church ruled the people with greed and corruption, and held them in fear of hellfire. Luther believed that people should be able to have their own relationship with God, and the right to feel safe and loved.
My musical interpretation is not made to offend or hurt anyone. The project is an interpretation of what is historically documented. I have for example visited the Vatican City and Wartburg. The inspiration behind this work is J.R.R. Tolkien's book The Silmarillion. The subject opens up too many thoughts and ideas. Have there been powerful times which we today have no knowledge of? Times that have been lost and today are only myths. Echoes from the past without any anchoring. If so, what happened to these cultures? Apart from the world of Tolkien there are enormous amounts of myths of ancient times in different cultures, written by known cultures that are seen as our cultural cradle. They describe times that go beyond our ability to verify. For example, there is a link between ancient Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Indian and Chinese stories of even older times where persistent rulers ruled powerful kingdoms. Also descriptions which has its beginning in supernatural rulings. I am constantly experiencing an affinity with the eternal that attracts and gives rise to amazing thoughts, which also travels anywhere without depending on time or space. When I was a kid my teacher said I had too much imagination within me. Today I see it as a gift that has strongly built up my abstraction ability. Likewise the artistic ability Cosmic Drama does not give the subject its proper value but reflects the longing, thoughts and desires that the universe gives us. Track 6 is a tribute to a good friend, Wolfgang Gsell who is no longer with us. A person who loved the universe and was himself filled with an artistic magic I appreciated very much. The album also pays tribute to Stephen Hawking, one of the modern era's biggest theorists which brought us closer to the intriguing questions about the universe.

The dream of taking a next step into the unknown, experiencing a new frontier land. Actually, this adventure has already begun with the exciting step taken by space travel in the 60s. The big steps are still to come, with our children of today and future generations. There are two future details that feel as if they will be ground breaking. One being stationed on the moon, the other our first trip to Mars. Thereafter, a great adventure continues and will grow as long as we strive forward.
As an album, Next Step is part of my earlier space-influenced albums. The previous album Cosmic Drama is the closest, but this passion for the universe was already started with the album Far Away (2012). Next step was created in studio TeamQuasar on Åland. Some of the tracks are a bit older and others were created in the fall / winter 2019. The material for the album was originally 135 minutes of music which eventually became 8 selected tracks with almost 80 minutes of music. Next Step was inspired by the idea of colonizing planets and moons in the Solar System. Cosmic Steps takes us one step further through the concept of interstellar spaceflight. Travelling to other star systems and probably discovering planets that are beneficial to humans is probably still a long way off. Johann Sebastian Bach who is one of my favorite composers died over 270 years ago. Maybe that is the time it takes until we can travel to other stars with the same ease as we put a rover on Mars. But one day, our future civilization will wave to its pioneers who embark on an unbelievably long journey through interstellar space - Fantastic achievements and truly Cosmic steps.
Cosmic Steps is also a concluding album of previous interpretations of the depths of space and man’s dream of colonization. Developments in artificial intelligence and androids have been very rapid and are constantly evolving faster. Powerful processors, advanced software and other technology create better capabilities for a more human response and androids that can move more like humans. It attracts and scares us at the same time.
For example, there are countless movies and TV series that move within the area. Androids that are good or evil, for the most part they have a strength that no human can measure up to, as well as an intelligence that is superior to us. But will the androids that we see in the film world become a reality, will we eventually have self-thinking, created individuals in our vicinity? If the answer is yes, ethical issues arise that are larger than Asimov's robot laws. We will make demands on androids, but should they also be covered by a protection similar to human rights? Or will it become more like a slave trade where they are lawless and can be treated without any ethical principles? If they become self-thinking and aware of their existence, the question is very simple to me. The 77-minutes of music -spread out over 8 tracks- making up “Somewhere far away” displays another fine selection of this Scandinavian talent, again offering music that triggers the listener’s imagination, inviting to journey into new worlds and dimensions as the music shines its magic.
Well, putting that in practice proves no hard task as the set of smooth melodic synth pads, gentle sequences and an occasional solo voice all fit together like a glove, airing a lovely positive vibe all the way through. It’s more than clear to me Mr Tronestam once again put a lot of energy, time and soul to achieve this wonderful, feel-good, high-quality outcome.
