Saxon Higgs - musician and producer from mid Wales (UK). Saxon started out by playing about with various instruments when he was a teenager, playing in bands and organizing jam-sessions in the depths of the wild welsh countryside.
On the verge of leaving secondary school, Saxon and a few of his friends became interested in electronic music. This was when dubstep had just hit the underground music scenes of the UK, and still had it’s unique non-commercial sound. Producers such as 2562 had a large impact on Saxon’s ears.
In 2008 at the age of 17 Saxon began self teaching himself how to use various pieces of music production software. He began playing a few of his tracks out at club nights which he represented, and began receiving some encouraging feedback.
After going to a few psytrance festivals in 2009-2010 Saxon’s musical perception was turned sideways forever. He changed course, and began working on the project "Brujo’s Bowl". The Brujo’s work and live sets have developed from the typical psychedelic sound which founded the project.
Since starting his new project, "Beatroots" Saxon's focus is to bring a more intelligent and minimal bass music vibe in deep progressive to the audience' ears. Concentrating on tones more subtle to the ear, intricate rhythms which transform with the expanding crescendos and chord meanderings which carry the ever so 'addictive' loops forward, onward and upward.
The change in the quality of his work is a clear representation of how his ethos in life, his relationship to the earth. And the simplicity in just existing, living and breathing; are all parallel with the way he explores in synthesis and sound design.

Luminus is stoked to welcome Saxon Higgs aka Brujo's Bowl to the label with this new 4-track EP "The Sky is Falling".
Based in Wales, Saxon is a prolific artist with a unique and tightly dialled-in sound. Between his Brujo's Bowl and Beatroots project, he has developed this signature sound liberally throughout the tempo spectrum, from atmospheric dubstep, through zenonesque trance, tripped out tech-funk, to minimalist drum & bass and beyond.
Originally inspired by some of the early non-commercialised dubstep, such as 2562, his style is characterised by dub-infused chord-play, deep, earthy bass timbres, precision percussive rhythms and sublime melodies. With Brujo's Bowl, he has brought this minimalist bass music aesthetic to the trance world, mainly via his own label Triple Drop Productions, but also through Zenon Records, Glitchy Tonic and more.
Here he presents four hypnotic journeys for the dancefloor, clocking in around 135bpm. "Fooled by Fools" and "Forge" roll out on a tech-funk tip, with infectious grooves and intricate polyrhythmic breakdowns, while "Regardless" and "The Sky is Falling" take a more progressive trance flavour, laden with expressive chord-play, organic textures and deep techy bass work.

Beatroots brings together some intriguing new steppa rhythms. A full length feature of some of his deep dubstep, garage and bass music. The meandering poly-rhythmic pad and chord progression, moves seamlessly in between the intelligent percussion. They cling to the deep rumbling bass tones which hold up the subtle, yet intricate structure of the Beaten Root. The rigorous selection process which Saxon undertook to finally compiling this album, has brought plenty of pleasure and bass aches to his ears. Beatroots brings us some more intoxicatingly deep and moody grooves in the minimal DnB department. Saxon's venture to achieve the crunky character of the analogue's warm sound by digital means continues. Emersed means, to rise above the surface of the water. A word used most commonly in botany. The rippling of water can be synced in many polyrhythmic patterns when one simply gazes upon them. These four tracks represent this idea through chord tonality and the motion in perpetual and addictive rhythm construction.

The first instalment of the TDP offshoot label, Gold Seal. We celebrate the start of the new alternative hiphop and triphop collective with Beatroot's infusion of deep intelligent dub and hiphop music. Saxon has hooked up with an old friend to deliver some more boundary stepping beats and progressive chord construction. MC and conscious lyricist, Hobaps from the highly appraised alternative hiphop duo, Major Triadz, and the masterful acoustic band, The Inexplicables. Has spent a few sessions at the edge of a spit of sand, at the mouth of the Aberdovey estuary in the west coast of Wales in Ynyslas. This short EP is the result of those few hours of recording. Hobaps's lyrics combined with the productions of Beatroots is an intriguing flavour, but one with familiarity and one that doesn't stray too giddy from the path of intention. The lyrics are an ingenious poem, describing to us the bits we look forward to in life, and the overseeing oppressive nature of the unfortunate state of minds of those who contribute to our hierarchy. The message is a familiar one. However, it's deliverance is spot on in terms of it's accessibility and tone. Deep intricate triphop beats, with conscious and inescapably truthful lyrics.

The prolific bass explorer known as, Beatroots. Returns to Shanti Planti with his seventh release, Mood Movement. This subversive & charismatic young fellow from Mid Wales (UK) is also the mastermind behind, Brujo's Bowl. A project which has provided the progressive trance community with an eclectic bass & techfunk hybrid form of Zenonesque prog. His two projects are of a similar sound, and although they're not of the same bpms or style. They're both bound to a course with the same intention.
In this release, Saxon shows to us a tool which he was unsure to show at first. But decided that the message sung deemed it worthy. Track three, 'Solid Soul'. A minimal drum and bass feature with a twist of conscious lyricism, technical sound design and tactile textured bass lines, betrays yet another glimpse in to the extensive tastes that Saxon is inspired by.
The five other tracks take on the form of Bass Music & Deep Dubstep. Each with it's own vibe and hypnotic, perpetual crescendo. 'Mood Movement' and 'Rune Stone' bring on a techy dub and chord marauder high. Loaded with perpetual grooves and deepness that'll make those closed eye lids flicker along double time to that tappin' toe. 'The Lesson' and the remix of Circular's 'Constructive'. Recuperates the mind, body and soul by representing the importance of ritual and ceremony. Emotional and evocative, passionate and true. With bass lines to rattle the lungs within their ribcage. Last, but certainly not least, 'Sailor'. An experimental piece, that drives forward upon a half time Psytrance beat. Technical squelches and sound design accompanied by a few addictive licks from Saxon's accordion. Hence the name, 'Sailor'. In the near future, there is to be an assortment of 'Sailor' remixes due for release on Saxon's label, Triple Drop Productions. Keep an ear out and a toe to the ground, as I'm sure the rumble of their approach shouldn't be hard to miss.

Ecstatic to reveal the 19th release from TDP, 'Renegade Sailor'. A bountiful selection of Beatroots remixes from the four core providers for the auditory vessel of Triple Drop: Expedizion, Bloop, Archa & Circular.

Enter the 2020 Conundrum. A mini album focused on a halftime and triphop style bass music aesthetic. Scenes of sci-fi thrillers & post apocalypse fiction inspired the sound design and atmospheres within. These tracks are intense, gritty and delirious at times. The chunky, raw beats provide a satisfying canvas for the hypnotic synths to reminisce their stories. Melodies set the emotions journeying through matter of all consistencies. The bass lines are revolving, thick, warm, propelling the listener into a storyline vortex that's a true fit for the energies of this year.
These tracks were written from December 19 through to March 20. A time where the uncertainty of the covid pandemic was simmering towards a global lockdown. A lot of changes for all of us. Where everyone, from all walks of life - have and continue to share a common depth of concern.
Don't worry too much though. These six pieces are still designed to move you in motion, instil contemplation and of course, most importantly - to get your bass face on!
