The Dear Hunter - Act IV: Rebirth In Reprise (2015, Equal Vision)(billboard.com): Back in 2006, Casey Crescenzo broke from the post-hardcore band Receiving End of Sirens and started telling a sprawling six-part epic through song as The Dear Hunter. It's been over half a decade since Act III, and we're finally getting Act IV this September. In the meantime, The Dear Hunter is premiering a brand new song off the new album.
Introducing "Waves," a majestic, lushly produced slab of orchestral rock music: "With writing 'Waves', it was an example of the eerie periodic parallels with my life that occur when writing this fictional story," Crescenzo tells Billboard. "At the surface, its somewhat of a grand middle finger to love, but at its heart, the song is truly about growing and learning from those experiences that seem so earth shattering in the moment."
The fictional story he speaks of is the one he weaved across the Dear Hunter's first three albums, which picks up on Act IV: Rebirth In Reprise, out Sept. 4 on Cave & Canary Goods/Equal Vision Records. It chronicles the life of a boy born at the start of the 20th century; beyond that, you'll really just have to dig into the back catalog. Casey spoke on how this particular song fits into the narrative.
"In relation to the story, the song reflects on a very specific moment in time -- but beyond the concept, in relation to my life, this song embodies that blissful ignorance you need to navigate the throws of modern romance, keeping your sights set on bright futures, disregarding the choppy currents and squalls."
