Nadine "Cooraz" Engel (lyrics & vocals) In 2004, Chemnitz based DJ Pedro Engel founded the project ACYLUM.
The East Germans first feature album "YOUR PAIN" (2005) dominated the harsh electro/industrial scene like nothing before. The frequent and fanatical use of provocative samples staged huge controversy mainly in the german press.
Pedro Engel showed his harsh music production skills in the long expected following album MENTAL DISORDER (2007). His style stands out in a sea full of dark elektro sounds.
The distorted vocals and a concentrated charge of cold, heavy, radical noise attacks with soft orchestral melody arrangements makes ACYLUM sound so unique.
In 2008, Nadine "Cooraz" Engel joined the project and ACYLUM signed a deal with a belgium based label called Alfa Matrix. This unfolded a new era for the project.
THE ENEMY (2009) was their third and by far the most successful, most provocative and the most discussed album in the history of the project.
The preceptions of the album ranged from "Best album of the year" to "Please, boycott this album". Both the vocals and lyrics tell a story of the brutal truth about our time.
This is what makes ACYLUM what it is now!
The launching procedure to THE ENEMY‘s successor KARZINOM is in the making and is due for release in October 2011.
With an improved production process the new album will leave its three ancestors in the dust.

After having been active with various side-projects (TOTEM OBSCURA, AENGELDUST...) for some time, the German master of uncompromising dark elektro Pedro Engel announced his comeback with the controversial and club smasher "Zigeunerjunge" EP which worked as the perfect appetizer for ACYLUM's 5th studio album. After "Karzinom", comes "Pest"! While with time, some bands tend to become more accessible and gentle, it seems that ACYLUM took another path, offering us his darkest, hardest and noisiest effort to date. Under the heavy noir thematic of the plague disease, ACYLUM widens the thematic scope of that terrible disease and matches it with other World (socio-political) diseases and almost taboo concerns of our turbulent times, let is be the Ebola contagion, terror attacks, Islamic and religious amalgams, rise of nationalism, etc. The "Pest" is still dormant on Earth and simply wears different faces to better infiltrate our modern societies. The virus is everywhere and ACYLUM spits his hateful venom on it all, in full provocation mode… Aggressive, powerful and dirty, ACYLUM absolutely knows no limits in its artistic approach and dares to write about touchy socio-political topics in Europe and mixing them with provocative German vocal samples. ACYLUM's new club weapons are this time titled "Zigeunerjunge", "Vaterland" or yet "Rhythm Of Violence" (featuring the unexpected vocal contribution of WYNARDTAGE), but also the much more malevolent, brutal and distorted tracks like the disturbing "Breivik", the vibrating "Romance" or the massive potential new club hits "Born To Be Hated" and the poignant "Knife". The album also reveals some slower passages of extreme darkness and dense atmospheres on songs of desolation like the suffocating "Pest", the bewitching and mesmerizing hellish calls of "Follow Me", or yet the morbid melody of "Plague" on which we get the impression that Nadine "Cooraz" Engel is singing from beyond the grave… Last but not least, we will also mention the interesting jam session on "Heads Of Innocents" featuring a studio collaboration between some 7 bands with vocals in 4 different languages!

The start of a long, faithful and fruitful collaboration between the German artist Pedro Engel and his Belgian home-base. “The Enemy” was also the album that confirmed ACYLUM’s breakout on the top of the dark elektro scene. Recognized today as an unavoidable reference in the scene for its devastating blend of harsh powerful dark elektro assaults with suffocating oppressive bombastic orchestral arrangements, ACYLUM is also known for its confronting provocations, making no artistic compromise! The use of expressive German samples sometimes lead to misunderstandings and unjustified conclusions. So far that some targeted claims against specific ACYLUM songs lead several digital aggregators to take down the full “The Enemy” album from the market although the band could explicitly prove them that ACYLUM is neither a fascist nor a racist project. Strict censorship was immediately taken without even an understanding of the messages and meanings behind these German words. In order to keep the uncontested part of this album available to all fans on digital platforms, we decided to digitally re-release a “censored” version 2.0 of “The Enemy” and compensated the few removed songs by adding several bonus tracks and remixes from the same recording period: "Breaking The Chains", "Without Breath (vs. Wynardtage)", "Deathwish" plus remixes by Diabolic Art, Vigilante and CeDigest.
