Drawing from influences as diverse as Baroque classical, Broadway, pop and folk, Marya crafts a sound that is wholly original. She creates the way she breathes; without choice or hesitation. With her most recent release, “Unstoppable Joy”, Marya embraces the joy of the universe as a palpable force to be enjoyed. The unbridled energy and light of the song are infectious, and open up new aspects of her ministry as an ambassador of peace and activist of the heart. Her recent award-winning album, The Garden, has a greater depth. Marya relates experiences of love lost and found, and of the rites of passage into adulthood. The classical influenced art-pop sound Stark currently prefers makes perfect sense. She loves grand musical gestures and subtle symbolism, but it’s difficult to carve out a single niche for her. Marya’s craft is deeply influenced by her background in Expressive Arts therapy. If you find yourself at a live show, you are likely embarking on a full ride through multiple story-lines of characters in various stages along the transformational arc. Marya loves to incorporate the audience right into the heart of the song through looping the audience’s voices, passing out props, and telling tall tales. She is a carrier of myth, mystery, and medicine songs with which she embarks to create a ceremony of the human condition, taking her audience on a journey through the caverns of the soul. You see, Marya hears the rhythms of the world around her. She sees the notes in sunlight and she hears the time signatures in passing moments. The collisions and collusions of personal relationships are like the movements of a symphony for her, and whatever she hears might inspire Marya to song. It is this same impetuous nature that allows Marya to be involved in multiple projects at once. When she is not on stage or creating music, you may find her working as a Music Therapist, teaching Compassionate Communication, or practicing Qigong. At the end of the day, Marya is at her happiest when she is creating and abiding in the bliss of the process. It was my birthday, I walked downtown santa cruz and stumbled upon Singing Wood Marimba playing epically booty-dancing music that uplifted my spirits as nothing else ever has. I bough their cd and continuously wept whenever i heard one of the tracks. I borrowed a little of the looping style and chord progression from that track and used a vocal looper to create this song. I had the great honor of sharing this story with them, and inviting them to play on this track. Unstoppable Joy for me is an infectious way to live life ad posture the heart no matter what. It is an ongoing meditation and co-creation. I dedicate this song to my beloved friend, muse and collaborator Binah Zing, who loved this song and believed in its capacity to spread light and joy with the people. 'Binah's Dream' was created and recorded in the first hours after I learned of my sweet sister/collaborator/muse/ancient friends' death.
'Life As Art', was then written just a few weeks after and produced with Entheo at OneDoorLand, Binah's artist sanctuary.
The Remix for 'Unstoppable Joy' was made in her honor, again by very dear friends Entheo (Theo and Amma Grace), who share my love of the exquisite genius elf that is our beloved Binah. Words fall short to describe her impact and legacy on my life and on the lives of thousands of others. I offer this music as a gift to our community, to all the ones who loved her deep.

Tracklist: 01.Marya Stark and eO - Music Box (Marya Stark and eO) (5:35) In 2015 I met the incredible visionary photo alchemist Nicole Erfan of Parvana Photography. We collaborated on this image, and I asked her if i could try my hand at writing a song to go with it. After she sent me the finished image, a song came in its entirety as I drove in 4 minutes from one friends house to another's, dictating this song directly into my phone recorder. I went home and worked out an arrangement, and asked my friend Jesse Autumn lay her harp twinkles on it (on my birthday no less). I then brought the track to the masterful and imaginative Eric Oberthaler (eO), who spent some moons gestating with it, adding brush strokes here and there, and teasing apart the cinematic glory that ultimately brought this song to its magical life. This project is one of my favorite new ways to collaborate, beginning with a vision, an image, and crafting a song, that comes from the archetypal realm summoned. Thankyou Nicole for your patience and for being the muse for this creation, and to eO for making it what it is. This song is a dream come true for me. released February 27, 2017
