Expect to hear sounds that come straight from the improvisational beating heart of real life. I don't claim this music is good. I claim it is honest. Tracklist:
1. Jedem Das Seine (14:17) 2. In Memoria Hominum (14:14) 3. Gut und Böse (17:03) 4. Endlösung (17:03) Total length: 01:02:37 Jedem Das Seine is the first half of the first part of my new project called "Human/Being". It is a project which looks, through electronic music, at what it means to be human, humanity, the human condition. In this first volume, split into two parts (the second is called Arbeit Macht Frei and can also be downloaded from this site) I am being guided by two separate things that I mused upon. The first is the Nazi concentration camps. The cover of this album is a picture of the gate at Buchenwald camp. The motto wrought into the gate is a viciously cruel taunt and can be translated literally as "To each his own". This is and was a popular German saying. metaphorically, however, the Germans used it to mean "You get what you deserve" and had it worked into the gate of a concentration camp, mocking people who were to be worked to death or simply taken there to be killed. YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE. The second fountain of inspiration for this project is the film Under The Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson. It is a film about a mysterious alien who takes on the form of a sexually attractive young woman and then patrols the streets of Glasgow, Scotland in a van attempting to pick up men, men she intends to lead to their deaths. The film is notable for many things but most interestingly, in this case, in that it tries to take an alien's view of human beings. What would we look like to a being from somewhere else? It is through these two prisms that I intend to focus my musical beams and consider humanity and being. For more on my project and volume one in particular please see my article on the subject at absurdwurld.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/nazis-and-sci-fi-issues-of-humanity-and.html released 24 January 2015 This album is entirely synthesized by Dr Existenz for the Elektronische Existenz project, giving electronic existence to life itself. 1. Arbeit Macht Frei (14:56) 2. In Plain Sight (13:14) 3. Empathie (15:33) 4. Prey/Pray (17:48) Total length: 01:01:31 This album is the second half of the first volume of my "Human/Being" project which aims to catalogue reflections on humanity, the human condition, being human. Things like that. The first half of this part is the album "Jedes Das Seine" which is also available to download from this site. In this part I continue my exploration of humanity guided by the twin spurs of reflection on the Nazi concentration camps (the sign on this album cover is the gate at Dachau concentration camp, north of Munich) and the film starring Scarlett Johansson, Under The Skin. If you know anything about either subject your understanding of part one of my project will be enhanced. Arbeit macht frei famously translates as "Work sets you free". The Nazis put it on the camp gates of a number of concentration camps including Dachau, the first such camp, and Auschwitz, perhaps the most notorious where millions were killed on what amounted to a conveyor belt of death type system. This was the only freedom The Nazis gave their victims. This album muses on the concept of an enemy of humanity and how such things (often people) can exist. How can human being treat human being in such a way? What has to happen to make that possible? What does it say about us as a class of creatures? released 24 January 2015 This album is entirely synthesized by Dr Existenz for the Elektronische Existenz project, giving electronic existence to life itself More information: ----------------------- foobar2000 1.3.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Tracklist:

1. Stream of Consciousness (17:08) 2. Point Zero (15:15) 3. The Ever Present (14:56) 4. The Two Shadows (15:38) Total length: 01:02:57 This album marks the third chapter of my Human/Being project, a musical exploration of the human, humanity and being human. In this chapter I have focused on the twin ideas of Being and Time after a long and thoughtful evening thinking about these concepts, concepts made famous, of course, by German philosopher Martin Heidegger in his book Sein und Zeit (Being and Time). My thoughts concerned the nature of human beings as beings who exist within time, a concept which is so important in informing us about everything from our identity (identity is very time-bound, a timeline we tell ourselves and reflect upon constantly, informing and reconfiguring that same timeline in the process) to our place in the world. Without the concept of time we just would not be who we are as human beings. Time intimately and necessarily informs us who we are and what that means. I also considered the concept of how we all come to be. Time is an eternity - infinitely before us and infinitely after us. We cannot comprehend or imagine it. Within that a billion billion random events occur and some of those random events result in us. I considered the idea that each of us is the outcome of a sexual act that might never have happened. And, if it didn't - at that precise time and place - then none of us would exist. Imagine your mother and father, instead of having sex that night, had just gone to sleep. You wouldn't exist. This is what I refer to as "Point Zero", the point at which your existence was decided. My last two tracks on this album coalesce around a common theme. That theme is that we exist constantly in the present. We never live either in the past or the future. One is always behind us, one always in front. But we are never in either. I reflect musically on what that means to always live NOW, watched over by two shadows and their influence. released 27 January 2015 This album is entirely synthesized by Dr Existenz for the Elektronische Existenz project, giving electronic existence to life itself More information: ----------------------- foobar2000 1.3.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Tracklist:

1. Just Do It (19:52) 2. Nothing Left To Lose (15:52) 3. Rather Keep Nothing (21:05) Total length: 56:49 The fifth part of my Human/Being project explores human motives and motivation - or lack of them. There are a number of people who sloganise this and many who suggest its just a matter of having the drive or the will and things will certainly be achieved. I tend to believe that things are a little more complicated than that. Not everybody has equal opportunity in life. Some, for example those with mental health issues, find motivation something very hard to come by, not least when their mind is often hard to collect or focus or is just simply fighting against them. My point here is that motivation is a matter of at least two things: perspective and context. Being a human being is not a "one size fits all" thing. Everyone is different as are situations. That needs to be remembered before any broad brush thinking is inappropriately brought to bear. Musically, this album is more rhythmically arranged. I used drums and otherwise synthesized electronic rhythms to add some movement to the Berlin School style evolving synth that this series is about. This is not the easiest album in the series to listen to but it finds its resolution, if you follow the journey, in a very thoughtful and poignant place. released 11 February 2015 Original synthesis and noise collages by Dr. Existenz. 1. Condemned To Be Free (16:10) 2. Logic from Unlogic (14:28) 3. Cause and Effect/Flux (14:10) Total length: 44:48 Human/Being part 6 is a sideways look at what may be called "The Human Condition". In reading and thinking philosophically I came across the statement of Sartre's that we are "condemned to be free". This was in reading Nietzsche's discussions in Die Fröhliche Wissenschaft about how human beings came to value truth and knowledge and reason. His argument there was based in human beings as at one time a definite social grouping, a herd, which found certain forms of life necessary. Expulsion from this herd, the freedom to think and act individually, something we now value and prize greatly, was at that time a terrible punishment, an exclusion from the comfort and well-being that the hive mind brought. Nietzsche called that being condemned to be an individual. Later, Sartre talked in his existential context of being "condemned to be free", a sense in which you have no choice but to live and to choose and to act and to think if you want to live. You have no choice in this matter. It goes hand in hand with being alive. In that sense, the burden of living is all on you. On a parallel stream to this thought I had been thinking recently about logic and its development in the context of a universe some 13.8 billion years old and so vast and unexplored and unexplained that it literally overwhelms us. It is a source of constant bafflement to me that this universe created sentient life. If you accept that there is no sort of mind or intelligence behind all that then it really is quite a question to ask why we came to be, a product of random and complex actions and reactions in the vast emptiness of space that forms worlds and whole systems of worlds and then, just as easily, wipes them away and starts again. Indeed, there have already been several great extinction events, as they are called, on our own planet. And, in this context, I thought about humans, many of whom like to think of themselves of ordered and logical, whatever that last term might mean. I suspect it actually means something very fabricated and humanistic. But, I ask myself, if there is such a thing as logic, then surely it came from the illogic of the universe? Is it really logic? Is it not just human beings seeing the world in a certain way? The third part of this album leads us back to my reading of Nietzsche. One of his great points is that humans, not least scientific humans, falsify the universe to make it useful for themselves and for us. We are counters, measurers, quantifiers. None of this means anything for ultimate truth or for questions such as if we are right or wrong about anything. They are, in fact, strictly speaking not concerned with either thing at all. For human beings, it is what is of use that counts. One such error Nietzsche sees is in the doctrine of cause and effect. As Nietzsche sees things, the universe is in constant flux, a stream of events. Only by abstracting two points, and calling them a cause and an effect, does that doctrine even make sense. But Nietzsche sees that as unfaithful to the stream of events and says that calling something a cause and an effect is to arbitrarily focus on some points and arbitrarily ignore others. Its merely an arbitrary choice fitted to the purposes of people who want to explain things in a certain way. And so this says something about human beings, a species that take things from their constant experience and order them in ways that are of use to them. A word now on the music here. I continue in the style I have adopted for this series which is adopted from the Berlin School of synthesizer music, popularised primarily in the 1970s. I want the sound to be noticeably synthesized and the pieces to be longer and evolving. Here I have used some discordant tones to convey a sense of not quite being in control. My music often seeks to perform a mood or emotion and be related instinctively and intuitively to the track title. Hence, here you can expect some sense of being uncontrollably free, some unlogic and some flux. released 11 February 2015 Original synthesis and noise collages by Dr. Existenz. The Infinite Sea IV (19:15) Total length: 01:13:15 My Human/Being project concludes with a 7th and final part, subtitled "The Infinite Sea". This is taken from a section of Friedrich Nietzsche's book, Die Fröhliche Wissenschaft, which goes thus: Im Horizont des Unendlichen. In the horizon of the infinite. - We have left the land and have embarked. We have burned our bridges behind us - indeed, we have gone further and destroyed the land behind us. Now, little ship, look out! Beside you is the ocean: to be sure, it does not always roar, and at times it lies spread out like silk and gold and reveries of graciousness. But hours will come when you will realize that it is infinite and that there is nothing more awesome than infinity. Oh, the poor bird that felt free and now strikes the walls of his cage! Woe, when you feel homesick for the land as if it had offered more freedom - and there is no longer any land. What is there to say about this? Well, that I see it as a comment on the human condition, the human situation. The land behind us is gone. There is no turning back in life, no safe refuge behind us. Every day of life ends with a burning of the bridge and a no way back. There is only one direction in life and that is forwards, forwards on an infinite sea. And the sea is not something you can master although it may be sometimes something you can navigate. Tides will take you this way and that, storms will send you off course to either disaster or to as yet unknown wonder. But this sea is infinite. It is your lot, your form of life, your place. It is both your infinite playground and your infinite prison. And that is the metaphor I want to leave as the lasting thought of this somewhat eccentric series of albums on Human/Being. released 24 February 2015 Synthesized by Dr Existenz from pure life force and electricity. It evolved in stages from a single album of 4 tracks, to 4 albums, then 8, 10 and, finally, an epilogue, EE13, was added. At the turn of the year I filled in the two missing volumes, EE11+12. This collection has never been available in full before even though parts 1-10 and part 13 have. I have decided to upload my first collection again, spread across 3 albums, to allow those who missed out as well as new listeners to hear and download my original collection in its complete form. Elektronische Existenz was originally conceived as a musical, music to accompany the story of a character called "The Wanderer," and each part, in my mind, carries on that fictional tale. This is, then, really a single work split into parts. This is more so the case here than with Human/Being as this tells a connected and logical story. This collection, however, is roughly 4 hours less in length and does not follow an explicit "Berlin School" stye of electronic music. The tracks are generally much shorter as well. The style here is more contemporary electronic instrumental. There is more beat influence here as well as more improvisation. Many parts are played by hand and not quantised in an effort to create something both real and unique connected to the beating heart and life of a real person. It is "existence" but in electronic form. Accordingly, this collection is what gave me the idea for the notion "Elektronische Existenz" in the first place and I heartily recommend it to you. released 24 February 2015 All musik and existenz by Dr Existenz. The album was initially my idea and that idea was to make an album loosely influenced by listening to Kosmische musik, sometimes known as Krautrock. Having thought of the idea, I invited Luke, a skilled guitarist, and Valerie, a woman with the singing voice of an angel, to help out and contribute if and when they could. What we arrived at together was something greater than the sum of our parts. All the production on the album was done by me and I also had the final say over arrangements and running order. However, in the process I did send things to both Luke and Valerie for them to improvise over or work with as they wanted to. Sometimes I used what they sent back instead of my stuff as their idea sent me in a new direction to the one I had started with. So we all have writing credits for the album. It remains to be said that although this album was inspired, in me at least, by Kosmische musik, I don't regard the finished product as Kosmische itself. Perhaps the difference between being inspired by something and being the actual thing is where the interest in this album might lie. I take yet another opportunity to thank Luke and Valerie for their fantastic contributions which helped me make an album I could never have made by myself. released 24 February 2015 Album concept and arrangement, most synths and all production by Dr Existenz. But then I watched the new film "CHAPPiE" by South African director, Neill Blomkamp, which is about a robot that is implanted with an artificial intelligence which gives it consciousness and personality - and I was cast right back into thinking about human beings and what, if anything, makes them special or different. Or, more simply put, what makes us, us. Thinking about robots and artificial intelligence was an aid to me in doing this. Musically, I have continued with the style of the earlier Human/Being work. Here are six new extended synth pieces that find their starting point in the Berlin School aesthetic. This time they have wandered a little further away from that starting point and I have used electronic drums and percussion. Corona (10:33) Total length: 01:18:36 "Space" marks my second collaboration as this album has been made together with Montana resident and all-round good guy, Iceman Bob. I have known Bob for over a year now through the medium of Twitter and have actively listened to his music throughout that time. One track especially, the wonderful "Garuda", stood out for me as simply beautiful and so I kept a close ear to the tunes that he made thereafter. His attitude appears to be very experimental, inspirational and free-flowing in the making of his music. As such, I imagined that this approach might be conducive to a collaboration with myself and to the concept of "space". And so it turned out. "Space" is part 9 of my "Human/Being" series which is a musical investigation of humanity and what it means to be human. For this album the idea was the concept of space, the vastness of the universe, which is not only where we live but where everything we know about (and don't know about) is. Having recently asked myself questions about the universe, and our place in it, I am constantly amazed about the existence of life and why and how our species comes to be in the first place. How can life come from no life? The music here, in my opinion, is full of this sense of wonder. Wonder, I think, is one of the most appropriate responses to the bare fact of the universe and the vast expanses of space. In terms of process it was pretty much the same here as with my first collaborative album, Shikantaza. Tracks were started both by myself and Bob and then passed off to the other to fill out or modify as they saw fit. Somewhere in the process 11 tracks came out the other side of the creative black hole. I want to express my profound thanks to Bob for playing a full part in this album and for agreeing to make it in the first place. It is his first collaboration with someone else. In fact, there is probably a lot more of his work here than mine, although we did both work on every single track. The album sounds distinctively Iceman Bob, in my opinion, and there's only one person in the universe who could have made it that way! Thanks Bob! You made this album much better than it would have been if made by just me alone. (Collaboration with others, a social factor, is also, I think, an important insight into human being. "No man is an island".) In the end, space is a profound place, deep and inscrutable. I think that the music here reflects this, sometimes being beautiful, sometimes harsh, sometimes amenable, sometimes difficult to grasp - and always far, far beyond us. Humans long to be predictable, to know the future, and hold things in their hands. But space is much too big for that. Space puts human beings in their place. I hope that the music Bob and I present here can give even a glimmer of that all encompassing vastness, the sense of wonder needed to appreciate it and take listeners on a journey. released 09 April 2015 All tracks written by Iceman Bob and Dr Existenz except: "Star Stuff" written by Iceman Bob from an idea by Dr Existenz. 1. Teleology (15:26) 2. Eschatology (17:55) 3. Anthropology (13:19) 4. Cosmology (15:14) Total length: 01:01:54 Part 10 of Human/Being is about endings, finitude, the end. We know already from this series (see Human/Being 3) that time and change are factors in all things. Now I want us to consider that things end. They stop. This knowledge of an end, of the end, always haunts us, limits us, confines us. We are limited beings in a limited universe. Anything is not possible and all things come to an end. And not just good things. This applies both to our species and our physical environment, both proximate (planet Earth) and on a wider scale (the Universe). So here I invite listeners to muse on the idea of endings and to consider how things they have to do with might end well. You can't stop things ending but you can affect your attitude to how they do. Musically, part 10 is still influenced by the Berlin School style of music. This part is more melodic, perhaps, than previous parts with less drone accordingly. There is also the influence of Kosmische Musik in some of the arrangements and sound design. Indeed, all my music so far this year has been influenced by, if not based in, the avant-garde music made in Germany in the 1970s. released 11 April 2015 All music created by Dr Existenz. 1. Infinity (14:19) 2. Eternal (12:38) 3. Relativity (13:08) 4. Paradoxes of Being (19:52) Total length: 59:57 This album is the first in a series of three about TIME. I suppose it is a kind of offshoot of my Human/Being project of ten albums which are also available from this site. In my recent philosophical thinking I have come to think that temporality, our boundness with the idea of time, is utterly defining for us as human beings. The philosophical canon seems to bear out this interest in time as well. And so a sub-series of albums on TIME seems entirely justified. What I am addressing here is our human conceptions of time. Specifically in the last track I address the paradoxes of time. I think how nothing seems to change and yet, simultaneously, everything is always changing and nothing stays the same. Think also of how time seems to go on forever looking forwards but seems to be over in a jiffy looking back. Time, or perception of time, changes with your perspective. In addition, there seems to be so much time that we are constantly threatened with drowning in it. And yet, every day, it slips through our fingers, never to be repeated. Musically, I have continued with my Berlin School inspired style. released 17 May 2015 All music by Dr Existenz. Cover photograph by Stefan Müller. I like to think of this style as simple and profound but maybe its just uncomplicated and crap. I also like to think that the enjoyment and depth is there for those who want to find it. And so I hope you do. "Schweigen" is a German word meaning "silence", "to be silent" or "to hold one's peace". Here I take as my subject "Being" itself. For a growing number of articles giving my thoughts on Being please see my blog which can be found at absurdwurld.blogspot com The music of this album still follows a broadly a Berlin School approach and the "being-in-the-moment" feeling that this promotes is very relevant in this particular case. I have tried to mix together various synthesized sounds on the fly and focused more on the creation of sounds prior to beginning on this occasion. Some signature sounds from the Human/Being project still remain however! released 26 May 2015 All music by Dr Existenz. The first is in the sense of how the mind works. It works to achieve success in bringing our desires, needs and intentions to pass. It does this, in effect, by playing a series of games. Achieving what it set out to do is winning the game. The second sense in which my album is called "Mind Games" is the sense in which you cannot and do not control your own mind. For who can honestly say they control their thoughts, their feelings, their desires? It is more accurate to say that these things happen to us than to say that we cause them to happen. It then becomes a sort of game to live with and be in control of your own mind. Somewhere within the process is located the meaning in life that we all need and sometimes struggle to find. You will see from most of my track titles on this album some connection to one of both of these ideas. Accompanying this album, should you choose to download it, is a document (called Mind Games) which contains a set of articles written especially for this project. (The necessary supporting literature is also provided for your convenience.) I consider the document to be as much a part of this project as the 10 music tracks. It contains quite a number of articles on topics literary, philosophical and cultural. If you have ever read my blogs then you know what to expect here. Reading it will, I hope, elucidate further on the matter of "mind games" and our human situation and further explain some of the track titles on the album. I recommend all listeners to download the album to get access to the articles as well. Or just to get access to them. I have given them a lot of effort. I should also mention that as I neared completion of this project the news came through of the death of former Cluster member, Dieter Moebius. I had not been aware of his pioneering work in electronic music for very long but his impact, once I was aware of it, was profound. I have included a track on this album as a tribute to him. May he rest in peace. released 25 July 2015 Another interesting set of Dr Existenz improvisations. Inhumans (10:50) Total length: 01:37:48 Existenz² is what comes after Mind Games. Ideally, you should make a playlist which mixes these tracks in with those from there for they exist symbiotically as one. Existenz² is an idea, the idea that humanity, humans and humanism, through their excess and the superfluity of themselves, thereby devalue and degrade themselves to nothing. They cause their own destruction and annihilation. Existenz squared is the end of humanity. We as humans are defined by time, by our contingency in time and our finitude as beings in time. This is our lot. But we are also innocent beings, beings who strove to know and valued knowing but could never know enough or truly know anything at all. We were forever stuck with our own descriptions for things and our reasons for needing them. This realisation leads to terminal disappointment and, in some, a blind refusal to accept the truth. This truth leads to the fact that the project of humanism will come to an end and we humans will, eventually, become inhumans governed by our new project of inhumanism. Human beings are thus revealed as a phase of biological life on planet Earth, one that was always temporary and destined to be succeeded. If this makes no sense maybe my supporting blog on the subject will make some sense. Recently we decided to work together again. When the idea of a subject for the project was raised I thought that since I had thought of "Space" it should be Bob's turn to choose. Bob, with the wit and insight i have come to expect of him, suggested "Innerspace". Neither Bob nor I make conventional music. This is to say that we are not concerned with offering a sweetly sugared musical pill which is in easy to swallow chunks. Both of us exhibit a certain individuality and a certain stubbornness and refusal to bow to convention. We make the music that we want to make, music made in the moment, music that speaks to and from something within us. In terms of our collaboration, I think that this sometimes can be problematic but so far in our projects we have both had the good grace to allow the other to take our creations where they wanted. It is this aspect of our music as a voyage of discovery that is most to the fore in this new project "Innerspace". Space is vast, deep and inscrutable and so, in its own way, is innerspace. What we offer here are 13 musical explorations of that space. We have not made music that will immediately flatter your expectations. We don't do catchy. We have, I think, tried to follow up on John Cage's notion of being "differently interesting" through the medium of sounds, textures and soundscapes. So this project is about the world within, about sound, about thought, about our unknown selves. It will repay attention but will almost certainly pass you by if it must impress you within 30 seconds. released 23 August 2015 Track 1 by Dr Existenz. Crisis Moment (8:10) 20. fünf (15:33) Total length: 04:49:48 This album is the first part of a two part project the two parts of which are being published simultaneously as Berlin Geschichte (Berlin Story). My original idea for the project had been an album focused on "Berlin electronic music" from 1970 until the present day but during the process of making that album (which turned out to be part 2 of this project) things changed along the way. What changed was that it occurred to me that all my music this year had been a kind of "Berlin story" in itself based, as it was, on a new found appreciation for Kosmische music and the Berlin School style of electronics. And so a new, two part, project was born. This is the first album of that new two part project. The second album, also now available on this site, is an album of new music which intends to take me forward from the tracks collected here. So this album focuses on that new Berlin story which is the story of my musical year. It is a kind of "greatest hits" of my music this year. I have made between 35 and 40 albums since January - depending on if I include the ones I rejected and never published at all. This album counts down the results of my looking back and going over all those tracks critically to produce what, in effect, is my personal top 20 tracks of the year. They are arranged in reverse order from number 20 to number 1 which plays last. These tracks are not in anyway a homage to Berlin made music nor are they an attempt to copy or mimic any aspect of it. But they might be what I come up with when what I hear and attempt to understand comes out the other side of my own experience. In any case, I never got any better than these tracks in 2015 and this is a record of my Berlin-influenced journey, my Berlin story. As a change to my usual policy, please note that each track on this album can be individually downloaded if so desired. This second album in the project is an album of new music which attempts to progress the sound I have been creating this year which is given to you, in its best examples, in Teil I. With roots in the noise experiments of Kosmische Musik and Berlin School electronics, this album dabbles with forms of Dark Techno, Ambient and sub-industrial noise to advance and build on the work I've done over ten months this year. The result is something sonically more complicated and tonally rich that's deeply in love with an electronic sound, something that has been at the heart of Berlin music and Berlin musicians since the late 1960s and the days of the Zodiak Free Arts Lab. There was a deliberate emphasis with this album on using saturated sounds and communicating my own personal history with the city, music and culture of Berlin. This, then, is an album with roots in a shared yet very personal past which charts a possible course to a musical future. The Creeping Death of Capitalism (7:15) Total length: 04:20:45 The album to which you are hopefully now listening is the culmination of a lot of work, thought and improvisation. It is also the product of not a little suffering. My music is part of my life as my breathing is a part of my life. It is a part of my body as my arm is a part of my body. It is a part of my mind as my worries are a part of my mind. With this collection of tracks I have tried not only to be honest and straightforward but also deliberately artistic. I have tried, insofar as I am capable, not to settle for less. The ideas informing these pieces are many and various and I am sure that many have already been forgotten and returned back to the aether from which they occurred to me in the first place. But it must be pointed out that the thought and ideas of John Cage remain prominent and I have been haphazardly reading his books for a year now. So my experiments continue here just as he would suggest they should. Those with a wide musical vocabulary may recognise in some of the song titles other musical influences and I acknowledge them all. These are certainly not less then the whole German world of the 1970s that was "kosmische". These are electronic works and explicitly "sound objects". What does this latter terminology mean? It means they are self-contained pieces meant to be looked at, stared at, (heard!) in regard to their form as objects much as you might a painting. Observe how they are put together, how things fit, what textures, colours and forms are involved within the form. But it is also true they tell a narrative and a uniquely personal one at that. You cannot share in that for you are not me. But you can appreciate each objet as an object and let it speak to you. I hope you do. And you can let them tell a story of your own choosing too if you want. released January 1, 2016 Another musical product of a life. Recorded December 2015. "Zucker" contains a sample of "James" by Cluster from the album "Zuckerzeit". More information: ----------------------- foobar2000 1.3.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Tracklist:

A Solitary Candle (6:18) Total length: 02:23:53 In the beginning was the absurdity and the futility filled the void and the nihilism was forever. Everything that was in the beginning was emptiness. That which came to be was meaningless and the meaninglessness was everywhere. Nothing came to be that was not without meaning. In this meaninglessness was life and this life was the futile absurdity of Men. The meaninglessness fills the void and the void is nihilistic without end. There came billions of beings out of the void. They came as witnesses to the futility of life, to testify to the nihilism so that all might comprehend there was no meaning to be found. They came and were not always well received as Men tried to avoid their experience and pretend otherwise. But those who did receive this testimony got no benefit whatsoever from the knowledge. They learnt only of the absurd, futile nihilism of their existence and of their fate: to come from the void and return to it. Our futility became flesh and dwelt in the void and we saw its emptiness, emptiness that could only be an empty eternity in the void. Many testified to its purposelessness and empty promise. Nietzsche testified about it saying "God is dead and we have killed him!" Of its emptiness and futility we have all received, time after time. For hope was given through the naive beliefs of Men but the futile absurdity of life was given through the nihilism of the existence we all share. No one has ever seen eternal meaning and the void reveals the futility of it all. Extraterrestrial (4:41) Total length: 05:52:12 A reissue of my 2015 best seller which ushered in a new, chaotic, immediate, "sound of the universe" type of music for me. Its utterly meaningless clicks, beats, glitches, drones and timbres are randomly assembled. And that's why it matters. This is what The Void sounds like. This edition features two extra tracks not available on the original issue, tracks 1+2. released January 16, 2016 All creation and production by Dr Existenz. originally released October 18, 2015 This album started as playing with sounds and became the most enjoyable and worthwhile musical project I've yet completed. All the sounds you hear are from modular synths (most), hardware synthesizers (next most) or software synthesizers (least most). (There are also a few random speech samples.) These sounds have been juxtaposed, processed, tweaked, effected and garbled randomly to produce the music you hear in what became an almost 6 hour collection and an exercise in enjoying the random. Over the 8 days in which I produced it the growing pile of sounds seemed to me to come to represent an archive of science fiction sound. And so that is what I present it as here. It is music to fire the imagination and to help you imagine the impossible, the weird and the otherworldly. All tracks are individually downloadable as I appreciate the whole collection may be a large download depending on your preferred format. I hope, however, that some will want to download the whole thing and that is how I would envisage my ideal listener: hearing the project as a whole. The track order here is not set in stone. It has this order only because I must upload tracks in an order and Bandcamp then numbers them. My preference is that you listen to these tracks at random and soak in the sounds, noise, rhythms and dissonance whilst enjoying the random track selections and the inevitable arbitrary juxtapositions they impose. There is much here that you may find disharmonious, unappealing, dystopian, strange and unpleasant. This is deliberate and it is for you, the listener, to deal with and process what you hear as best you can. It has seemed to me, its creator, to become a sound track to many possible but as yet undiscovered worlds. Music created and arranged using chance procedures, random choices and arbitrary decisions by Dr Existenz. This prejudice tells you that PROPER music is melodic and takes the form verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus. This music, furthermore, is something that you deliberately compose and take inordinate amounts of time over. You must be serious, studied and careful in producing it. In short, you should follow all the conventions of professional, commercial music-making if you want to be thought of as a serious musician who makes music that is to be taken seriously. Well fuck that. This music was made neither carefully nor seriously. The outcomes that you hear were not worked for or aimed for. Stuff was, as it were, just thrown together. It didn't mater to me in making it what the end product was. There's no melody here. Melody is for weak-minded fools who want to be cuddled in auditory blankets. What you will hear here follows few if any conventions of commercial music-making. It does not view how popular it is or how liked it will be as criteria worth bothering about and so it does not pander to listeners nor crave their masturbatory attentions. It is ephemeral, temporary and disposable. Because of this it is immoral for it offends the moral impulses of those who make the predominant form of music in our society today and impugns their moral sensibilities, something constitutive of how they judge music in the first place. Every inside defines what is outside. This is immoral, outsider music. In making this immoral music I aim to show that music is something judged morally at all and if you get that point then my work here is done. If you don't think the point holds then listen to my album and then say what you think about it. And ask yourself HOW you have judged it. You will find your thinking shot through with moral evaluations. And this is strange when you consider that any music is just SOUNDS. It reveals the moral, conventional thinking most people are trapped in. released February 14, 2016 All the sounds you hear here were taken from the work of Dan P otherwise known as Disposable Sound EXCEPT for any drum sounds which I added myself. The idea for this album was inspired by listening to some of Dan's original pieces and thinking about his ethos of music that is disposable. Dan is on Twitter @DisposableSound and on Soundcloud at soundcloud.com/dan_p Improvisation, combination, juxtaposition and lack of production by Andrew Absurdist. All pieces here are original works created from pieces by Dan. More information: ----------------------- foobar2000 1.3.5 / Замер динамического диапазона (DR) 1.1.1 Tracklist:

The bed of each track is a pre-existing piece by Dan P (Disposable Sound) that has been indelicately fiddled with and altered by me but this time I have (on most tracks) also added improvised sound on top using a Korg Kaossilator, a dynamic phrase synthesizer that it is very hard to play accurately. (This is a good thing.) Most often I have added drums with this device but not only so. All this was done improvisationally with no prior ideas or setting up involved. What happened, happened, and what you hear is what you get. What you get is a gritty narrative of noise devoid of melody and full of disharmony. That is my Truth. released February 17, 2016 Synths by Dan P (Disposable Sound on Twitter and Soundcloud). Improvised Korg Kaossilator drums and synths by Andrew Absurdist. To give a brief description, in late 2014 I created a setup with the software program Reason which allowed me to make "random music" making use of noise generators and effects within that program connected together with various interconnected sequencers. I then utilized a random number generator to make decisions for me regarding everything from how many sounds to use to which ones to pick. Basically, as much as was humanly possible was taken out of the writer's hands. What was left was the contingencies of indeterminacy, chance operations, random choices. It was music that happened within certain boundaries, not the choices of a writer. Strictly speaking, this music has no writer. This was all influenced by my beginning to read the works of John Cage. released March 15, 2016 Album conceived by Herr Absurd thanks to the inspiration of John Cage. Earlier albums in this project are Berlin Geschichte and Der Versuchsraum. This chapter of the project is slightly more poppy but in an alternative way. My trademark dissonance and willingness to make "wrong" music are still well in evidence. The album is named after Kreuzberg, a famous and infamous area of Berlin with which I am somewhat familiar. All the song titles are associated with this area. released March 17, 2016 All tracks written and recorded by Elektronische Existenz. The album explores FM synthesis, use of white noise, use of tempo and timbre, sound effects and synthesis in general. I tried as much as I could to go ways I had not gone before to make sounds I had not made before. I then tried to combine them as I had not combined them before. As with a number of previous albums, this one has a large number of tracks and takes about two and a half hours to listen to completely. It is a journey and is best experienced as such. It is called this because Nietzsche refers to his own life as a means to get across his points, referring not only to his previous books but also other things in his past as well. All the track titles are directly from the book. The music is a set of seven glitchy, noisy, ambient meditations on the text trying to understand the sense of Nietzsche's subtitle - How One Becomes What One Is. Surely if one already is something one does not need to become it? One already is it. Therein lies your reason for reading the text for you can be sure it is not as simple as that. released May 5, 2016 All music by Elektronische Existenz. When you've written or improvised maybe 3000 tracks in around 8 years it has to be said that some of that creativity will be better and some of it will be worse. I had become disillusioned with my recent output and the direction in which things were going and so I sat back and listened to older things. I started to pick out the things that stuck out, that seemed "better" and, soon enough, I'd collected 70 tracks which I think are probably the best I've done in my recent spurt of creativity going back to about 2008. Of course the list is incomplete. Of course its in some sense arbitrary and contingent on my views in this moment. But its an attempt to be definitive. From those approximately 3000 tracks these are the 70 which show what I'm capable of at my best. They are rhythmic, melodic (very surprisingly to me!) and about sound design. They are the beauty in amongst the noise, anger, angst and dissonance. They aren't the whole story. You would have needed to download every album I ever did to get that. They are the high points. They are A Maze of Electronic Sounds. released June 16, 2016 All music by Dr Existenz (although some first appeared under other names). It is musical accompaniment for a U-Bahn journey on the U8 line from Leinestrasse in Neukölln to Alexanderplatz in central Berlin. I have taken this journey myself numerous times. The music will take much longer to listen to than the U-Bahn journey takes. Indeed, you could walk the journey faster. It is, then, an extended meditation on that journey. released August 27, 2016 All music by Elektronische Existenz. You may know Marc as Automatic Gainsay, his artist name that he also uses when demonstrating (mostly) analog synths on You Tube. Marc has a very clear interest in the synths and paradigms taken forward by Bob Moog (or those who used his synthesizers), this being a player's paradigm. Don Buchla, on the other hand, favoured new kinds of music and a "machine music" style in which one conducted the instrument before you and encouraged it to produce music. This is paradigmatically shown in the work of one of Buchla's first customers, Morton Subotnick. And this is the direction that I favour. This album is an attempt to make "machine music" which is a description of not just how it is made but, in some sense, also a sonic descriptor too. released October 30, 2016 All music by Elektronische Existenz. But Don't Worry (07:36) Total length: 01:46:21 This album is a mixture of apocalyptic nightmare, political despair and chance composition. The pieces of music were composed in non-intentional ways as intellectual exercises. So they were not designed to sound as they do because they were not designed according to sound at all. Sound sources were randomly chosen and where or where not sound should be heard was done according to no composerly desire. The title is "Escape Compositions" for at least two reasons. First, they were my escape from looking at the mess of the world scrolling down various timelines. Second, they are the sound of humanity's coming apocalypse which is now surely inevitable. Destruction is also an escape. These pieces were an attempt by me to create music as an exercise. Like and dislike did not play a part in this nor should it play a part in the listening either. This applies to me as well as to you. These pieces, then, are an attempt to hear differently, to put away egotistical notions such as that for something to be worthwhile it must earn my "like". In so doing maybe we create another necessary form of escape: from ourselves. released November 25, 2016 All music by Elektronische Existenz. Okerstraße 2 (09:14) Total length: 02:41:04 I used to live in Schillerkiez, an early 20th century estate constructed in Neukölln, Berlin, that's now nestled up against the eastern edge of what was once Tempelhof Airport and is now Berlin's beloved Tempelhofer Feld. In many respects I never left this place. From the moment I first went there I fitted in and felt at home. How strange this is is that I do not feel I belong in the place I have spent nearly the rest of all of my life, somewhere that has always felt alien to me. But it was not meant to be that I should stay in Schillerkiez and so now all I really have are my nostalgic musical memories and reminiscences of this place, great Sehnsucht for it and a mixture of Heimweh and Fernweh. Some of these tracks were actually made whilst I lived in Schillerkiez but I'm not saying which ones. And so this album binds me tightly with this sense of place I carry. Its deeply personal. The tracks are arranged in three sets of seven and are regarded by me as a thematic unity. released December 25, 2016 All music by Elektronische Existenz. Running Time: 2 hours 41 minutes. A Fiction of Berlin (10:16) Total length: 01:31:07 It is not lightly that I release this project here today. It is very much a risk. What you have here may seem to be just more music but its not. Should you download this album you will receive as a bonus item a 94627 word "novel" called "Diogenes". Of course, you may just want the music and that is fine. But the music is only a brief taster of what is in store in this project. The music is only the background noise, the soundtrack, to what is going on here for the main action is that text. It is not my task here to tell you what Diogenes (the project) is about. Its never my job to tell you what anything is about. That's your job to thoughtfully take it in and think it over. I don't even think I could tell you what it is about anyway for I'm not even sure myself. Diogenes the text is challenging and transgressive. It covers difficult subjects and the more sensitive souls may find it upsets or offends them. Its an adult text for adult minds. It certainly does no less than discuss identity, meaning, humanity and human purpose in early 21st century context. It will be found most useful if it is engaged with and thought about for nothing here is simply given. It only does its work if its actively engaged with otherwise it remains simply dormant. Diogenes the album is a shadow cast by the text. Its a bricolage of sounds and styles that the active listener has to make sense of if relating one track to another. People tend to want to see consistency working through things. But if you want it here you'll need to work at achieving it. The music, as much as the text, models a world in which little is given and the greater part is made by you. Far from all of this will be pleasant for pleasant things are but a small subset of the world of our experience. Both music and text, then, are for those who want to experience things more widely than as they might wish them to be. Neither are either provided merely for enjoyment or to entertain. They function, both separately and together as a whole, as the ignorant questions of life in a chaotic void. Should you enter, prepare to get your hands dirty. released January 28, 2017 All music and text by Elektronische Existenz. Handpan sample in Dan Dan The Handpan Man by Disposable Sound. I was coming off the back of yet another difficult period of my life and for the previous 6 months I had been hurting and healing. Then tracks like this came. I called what I was making "Elektronische Existenz" - Electronic Existence - the very formulation of what consisted of my own life in electronic sound compositions. I even originally had a "life story" for myself worked out and each track was a new chapter in that story. I came to take the title of the project as the title of what I was doing as a whole, so personal was it to me, so intimate. Three years later I realise this was a deeply authentic act and this music was bare, raw, authentically me speaking from what someone more religious might call their soul. It is the sound of my melancholic insides and in presenting it yet again what else could I call it but "Authenticity"? I am usually one who hides or obfuscates about myself but here nothing is hidden. its all there for those with ears to hear. Here is my musical corpse. That story I mentioned still holds true, even to this day. I am Der Wanderer and my Shadow follows me or is it that i hide in it? This, of course, echoes Nietzsche in the second part to his book, Human, All Too Human, from which the title comes. The "serious philosophical question" is that of Albert Camus in The Myth of Sisyphus, i.e., why does one go on living and not kill oneself? This leads us to Berlin's Tempelhofer Feld which I, and I'm probably not alone in this, regard as sacred ground, a holy place, a place to be quiet, to commune, to feel safe and respected. My "lament for my existence" and "the disruption" are personal references to things I must sometimes face as is the piece which details "the man behind the photograph", a deeply emotional track in which I try to represent myself crying in the closing section. A "pain symphony" and a defensive "tank dance" follow before the whole thing is summed up as an "existential crisis". This is music of struggle and survival, of melancholy and despair. Its authenticity. released March 21, 2017 All music by Elektronische Existenz. Running Time: 2 Hours, 17 Minutes. These were the now sadly deceased British guitarist, Fantastic Beard, and the American singer/songwriter, Valerie Polichar. Secondly, here I try to be influenced by a style of music overtly. This is kosmische or krautrock. The result is an album that doesn't sound like any other I've made and that makes it special. That's why I'm reissuing it now in a slightly reduced form. I have removed four tracks that were in the original release which I see as cutting away a little fat to leave the tender meat alone. Thank you to my collaborators again who helped me make something I couldn't have without their uniquely talented input. released June 27, 2017 All tracks by Elektronische Existenz. Guitars on tracks 1, 4, 9 and 10 by Fantastic Beard. Vocals on tracks 2, 8 and 10 by Valerie Polichar (Hugeshark). Vocal on track 4 by Dr Existenz.
