Dear All: Kia Ora! First time i participated in a real massive workshop in Sydney, and having some of the best pumpers including the PD himself, Glen for the masterclass for this release, is something that i will be etched in my memory forever. We launched it one full month after i got our music in Sydney. I still love it after almost 2 weeks of teaching it! Anyways, my review: Track 1 -
Shades of Bodypump 48/49's Evergreen. A 'feel good' song but this one has lyrics that's more motivating than lovey dovey.
All rounded warmup and a great way to start the class strong as well as allow us to connect to the participants right away. Track 2 -
Some participants/instructors have feedbacked that this track sounds 'out of place'. In my humble opinion, this track is the only track that sounds old skool but yet contemporary, somewhere between the early 90s and the indies (hope i got it right The workout is basic, does the work and challenges at the end with the sets of 4 bottom halfs, which allows participants to really dip in and work hard. Track 3 -
Loved this track which was actually introduced to me by a DJ friend (yes i'm a bedroom jock). Then heard it on combat, then now in pump!!!
What can i say? Party track with solid chest work. 2 bottom halfs are great to get emphasis on chest without too much feel in the shoulders. Love the combinations at the end, remembered them from BP 52. Track 4 -
This one is really sugar on the cake. Somehow the room goes quiet, and thats where an instructor can really feel quiet resolve from the participants with the added weight on their bar. Out with the ra-ra, in with the hard work. And that's what this track really is. Strong, resonating and hard hard work to the fantastic finale. Track 5 -
Such a cutesy start (The sound of music). However, when the pullovers come in at the end of 2 sets of extensions (starting from the bottom), the cuteness ended and in with the wobbly arms. Standing extensions with the combination was a great challenge on its own. Pushups at the end didn't feel nasty because everyone's numb by then. In summary, adorable start, wicked isolation work and the pushups were the icing on the cake. Track 6 -
Short, Intense and really does the trick only if you load one up. But 1kg per side means a lot to a small muscle group and especially the female participants who then had to maintain their usual bicep weights.
This track is definied by 'hit it hard and fast' (my favourite phrase in the military) Track 7 -
Whoa ho!!! Let's see, this track has liberating stretches to open the hips (as usual), intense work on the board, and the great finish. Need for speed? Look towards the finishing line...Wheeeee Did i mention the music is FANTASTIC? And with the board, you'll really feel like the silver surfer (ok lousy joke...)
Ride on! Track 8 -
Shoulder work with plates is cool. It allows participants with tightness in the neck to really feel the shoulders as compared to bar work. (at least they told me so)
It's a very well balanced shoulder workout with rear delts and mostly modified arnold presses that keep the shoulder well loaded. Then the shoulder presses to finish off... Track 9 -
Feels like core abdominals. But great to use the initial setup to coach core, then to use the superficial 6pack/obliques, then the functional twists.
The planks at the end also help set great posture work. Really excellent all round work. No stone left unturned. Track 10 -
Ooops, this one left a friend of mine who has just divorced in tears. But even she agreed its a nice song, a strong finish to a strong workout.
The ending is motivational and leaves everyone thirsting for more. Overall, this is probably the greatest release. And really bodypump at its best.
Old skool + New skool. Strength, power and functionality. Congratulations, Glen and team! If there was ever Bodypump in heaven, this is the release that they would be teaching.
