The final set includes Parisian noise-pop, Epic Coldwave from California and Bordeaux, Post-Chiptune Chaos from Tokyo, Riot Grrl No-Wave from Brighton, Kraut, Goth, EBM and Uber-Concrete Noise from Melbourne , a dozen disparate sounds and styles all united by a common disdain for the Guitar. Stating a thematic position of Anti-Hype/Baggy Movement and living as a part of the south London squat scene Moist always functioned as a band on the edge: on the periphery of any real or imagined Camden Scene they played a couple of dozen shows (with the likes of Headbutt, Loveblobs, Sun Carriage etc) ripping open the heads and hearts of all who experienced their brutal affections before wandering off into night to become the stuff of legend/obscurity. The Moist sound is as vital now as it was jarring then, an almost industrial mash of inner-city post-Jesus Lizard/Birthday Party hate-razor-blues that sits glowering malevelontly at the new breed of local sick-swamp kiddies like Cuntz, Hoarse, Gentlemen etc etc. Between 1990-1992 the band recorded a heap of tracks for a planned but unreleased follow-up to the "Face Pack" LP... , some in squatted bedrooms, some in bleak rehearsal rooms, even some overnight in an illegally entered recording studio. The Secreted release presents 10 of these tracks previously unreleased and up till now largely hidden from the world. The Moist Guitarist was Jon Free, who went on to successes in Penthouse and Gin Palace and is now a Victorian resident. Bassist Ned Langman and Drummer Percy Greenfield remain resident in the UK but Vocalist Nick Brown died in 2013 . Secreted is available from Detonic Recordings as DTX05 a limited edition cassette album, with digital download. The lead track "UP" has almost dubbie moments of dementia as it seesaws between bass surges, breakdowns and Lydonesque vocals .. 6 minutes 37 seconds of irrestible potential energies that leave the floor quaking long after its done. Arguably the most User/Radio friendly of the three, "FleshWar" is a deconstructed homage to Total Control, Yaws stripping back the salient features to take the cover version as close to SPK as the original was to Orchestral Manouvres. The Closer "Regression" is quite simply a mind fuck. (2:18) 24Bit So this is a concept album, where the original concept was a split album with Radiowave artistes covering Detonic songs and Vice Versa. It kinda lost the plot along the way but go with the idea there was a concept to start with… don’t get hung up on any of the finer/legal/factual details of what it actually ended up as. Collaboration is a bit strong a word for what happened too, despite swapping some lyrics and the odd Chord sequence each side was put together in isolation. We never heard the other songs, or even saw a track listing until the record was being put into production.. nothing wrong with stirring a good healthy serve of random into the mix. Ok, on our side we have real bands, we have people who claim to be bands, bands who don’t really exist, and people who have never even heard of Detonic Recordings.. but what matters this is a really strong set of tunes and it all makes up a great album. Vocals and brittle circuit bent Casio keyboard melodies are nestled between slabs of buzzing Commodore 64 synths, gritty beats and pulverising drums. Despite the predominantly 'retro' nature of the instruments - with their Commodore 64s and Casio Sk 5/8 keyboards harking back to the glorious ‘80s - there is nothing retrospective in their sound. Despite the lack of guitars, Spirit Bunny’s chaotic blend of broken sound bears as much in common with noisey-guitar-pop bands as dark-synth-wave groups. While thoroughly democratic in nature, with each component given equal weight, Spirit Bunny’s lyrics continue to mine the same themes explored by the groups instrumentation and diy work-ethic. Songs simultaneously celebrate and critique consume culture with odes to inner-city rubbish collection and mindless youth consumption habits - be they 90s disposable fashion labels or packed lunches. Elsewhere lyrics, at times themselves cut-ups and found texts, comment on the mundane, comfortable, lifestyle of inner-city living. Decidedly DIY, Spirit Bunny's debut LP comes in a hand-painted cardboard case, was recorded at drummer Cameron Smith’s studio Incremental Records (Velociraptor, Deafcult, Danyl Jesu) and features instruments circuit bent (Casio SK keyboards), modified (Commodore 64s) and built by the members. Originally meeting at a party under a Cathedral in Normandy Muriel Annic and Richard Payne defied the tyranny of distance and soon embarked on a trans global song writing project. It then seemed appropriate that the bands name would be taken from the classic Ultravox tune : "..somehow we drifted off too far, communicate like distant stars". The design brief was to create something bright that lives and breathes in the spaces between the cold, the dark, the deconstructed and the minimal. Distant Stars Debut release is "The Way Things Work": 9 tracks of blissfull yet challenging, deconstructed electro pop bliss. Recorded in Caen and Melbourne over 2017 the set was Mastered in London by Antony Chapman.
