Still, some nice hand-built sounds and interesting, engulfing arrangements place this near the top of the new ambient heap. Also released on the Fax label. Exact Audio Copy V0.99 prebeta 4 from 23. All in all, Emit Ecaps is a fascinating fusion of hard and soft. Exact Audio Copy V1.0 beta 3 from 29. August 2011 REM GENRE Ambient Tracklist:

Jamie Hodge) (3:35) 11 - String Of Pearls (Autechre Mix) (5:06) In which some of the biggest names in dance-based electronic music -- both experimental and straightahead -- are given the midi files to Spacetime's Emit Ecaps and entreated to go nuts. Remixers include Carl Craig, Autechre, Higher Intelligence Agency, Subtropic, Matthew Herbert, David Moufang (as Move D), and Spacetime's own Jonah Sharp. The stealers are up for grabs, but the spicier cuts include Subtropic's jungled-up take on "Kairo," and Herbert's deep house fry of "Movement #2," and HIA's dense electro mix of "Funkyar." Also released on Reflective as two separate 12-inches. Exact Audio Copy V0.99 prebeta 4 from 23. Though the "live" feel is mostly a non-event (Iddenden's smooth late-night sax solos are, to be kind, unnecessary), Sharp saves the day with some inventive programming, reminiscent of his last proper full-length, Emit Ecaps. The bubbly effects and lo-energy trance breaks on "Microjam," the static chords mirroring a set of cloudy synthesizer breaks on the highlight "Biscuit Face," and the unsequenced drums and Rhodes shards on "Beveled Edge" all prove that Sharp doesn't need the gimmick of a "jazz" album to make fine music that's more innovative than derivative. Hailed by Mixmaster Morris as among the best things he'd ever heard at the time of release, the album's tricky balance of dancefloor groove and chill room ambiance has been much copied. 01 - Neoteric (6:32) 02 - Neoteric (Strange Attractor Mix) (6:13) 03 - Microjam (6:57) 04 - Pressure (Live) (6:31) 05 - Freelon (9:23) Spacetime Continuum's first release in over two years is REALtime, a five-song EP. Even if you fail to recognize the funky attitude portrayed by the cover graphics, you'll certainly recognize it in the music. The new direction is inspired by Jonah Sharp's own "Swing Fantasy" track on the 1996 remix album rEmit rEcaps. The fearless, vibrant bassline in "Microjam" is the musical middle on the disc, which ranges from the subtle mood in "Freelon" to the intense beats in "Pressure Live" and "Neoteric Strange Attractor Mix." New to Spacetime's arsenal are the vocals performed by MC Girao, which appear in the two "Neoteric" mixes. "Pressure [Live]" is from the Summer 1997 Neoteric Festival in Japan. This track takes the opening song from Sea Biscuit and injects a drum'n'bass rhythm, resembling the best blend between intense rhythm and musical atmospheres that Spacetime has committed to disc. "Neoteric Strange Attractor Mix" is a high-energy dancefloor groove. The rhythm is a repetitive yet solid groove, using slices of voice samples extensively. "Freelon," only available on the U.K. import version, is the most abstract of the tracks on this EP, more closely resembling material from Sea Biscuit and rEmit rEcaps. This song offers a steady but subdued rhythm and a huge familiar ambient sound. The beats and synths pace their way to the end, where they diverge and drop out. May 2009 REM GENRE Electronic The manipulation of spirit through music is both a subject of historical fact and ongoing development. Traditional instruments have served spiritual purposes very well over the millennia, especially where rhythm is concerned. Where drums, rattles, and sistrae have served in the past, electronic instruments serve in the present and look to provide service in the future -- especially those that can easily produce a shift in sonic identity (samplers are good for this, but synthesizers, ever more complex, can take a bare mathematical notion and produce something formerly unknown from it.) Jonah Sharp and Bill Laswell, working in tandem, have produced a pair of ambient slabs built on a mixture of rhythmic anchor and rhythmic shift, in which bass underlies skittish, swirling synthesizer layers with a pulsing thread that almost helps to focus the electronics, before fading slowly away. What comes between the anchors is a sound of space and spirit -- while the synthesizers crisscross and swirl in their own pulsing rhythms, the sound is only truly rooted when the bass breathes in -- this, at least, is "Zurvan Akra." "Aion" is more subtle in its rhythmic interplay, though it is there, woven into the deep space fabric of things. Sharp and Laswell spend their time riding the cycles in the heart of the piece, producing something that, on the whole, might be seen as quite a piece for planetariums -- or Halloween spook shows. Even with the cycles and rhythms, it's very easy to let go and just drift, floating from one end to the other even through the deep bass passages. True space music.

A London native and an acid jazz drummer before embarking on his career in electronic music, Sharp was an in-demand session drummer until the rigours of the club scene and the mawkish obsolescence of the genre had him experimenting with other styles. Glomming onto ambient and techno as a DJ, Sharp was a founding member of the periodic Spacetime parties, held in a hologram factory in London and host to such early new ambient luminaries as Mixmaster Morris, David Moufang, and Dr. Atmo. Sharp left London for America in the early '90s, settling in San Francisco, where he established his Reflective label and recorded the bulk of his work to date. Although that work has been split over a number of different project headings (Emit Ecaps, Alien Community, Reagenz, Electro Harmonix, and others), his most consistently visible work has been as Spacetime Continuum. Sharp signed a non-exclusive multi-album deal with Astralwerks in 1992 and released his first full-length work -- a live recording of a collaboration with author Terrence McKenna and didgeridoo player Stephen Kent -- the following year. The largely ambient Sea Biscuit followed in 1994, and was released through the Fax label in Europe (Sharp has recorded a number of collaborative projects for Fax). Emit Ecaps, released in early 1996, returned to Sharp's dancefloor roots, incorporating elements of house, techno, and jungle. It also spawned a remix album, Remit Recaps, featuring work by Autechre, Plaid, and others. In addition to a smattering of Sharp-related releases (including the collectible Flurescence EP), the Reflective label issued albums by Subtropic, Velocette, Kid Spatula (aka Mike Paradinas), and Single Cell Orchestra, as well as a stream of 12-inches. The next Spacetime Continuum full-length, Double Fine Zone, appeared in 1999.
b. London, England. This San Francisco, California, USA-based ambient techno artist most frequently records under the Spacetime Continuum moniker. Originally an acid jazz session drummer in the UK, Sharp began DJing at the Spacetime parties held in a hologram factory in London. He relocated to the US in the early 90s, setting up a new studio in San Francisco and establishing his own Reflective Records imprint. In addition to his work as Spacetime Continuum, Sharp has recorded projects with Pete Namlook, Bill Laswell, David Moufang, Tetsu Inoue, Mixmaster Morris and author Terrence McKenna for such leading labels as FAX Records, Source and Astralwerks. Other Reflective releases have included a Namlook remix CD and albums by Kid Spatula, Velocette and Subtropic. Для того, чтобы скачать .torrent Вам необходимо зарегистрироваться |
