Through our lives we can feel very hopeful, to feeling like there is no point at all, but the point of these feelings is eventually they do end and we move on to the next, much like listening to a song. To keep moving forward we build upon the foundations we have already experienced, and live our lives to whatever means we so desire. Whether they are unheard or already released, this album is a collection of songs that artists have agreed to contribute toward raising awareness for suicide prevention. The whole record label itself was based around the idea of this release, getting musicians that shared similar views and passions, or generally just artists that we admire, and get them to come together and help a good cause that really is a problem that is much too buried and unheard of. Some of the artists featured will be having upcoming releases on this label, some feel the same passion for music or for suicide prevention as we do. Proceeds go to the Australian Suicide Prevention Foundation who are volunteers working so very hard to keep people alive day in and day out. As a young producer I am always learning and improving, but this is the first release of mine that I feel I have accomplished a sound that I am happy with. There is a whole new wave of emerging music producers like myself out there trying to be heard, and this EP is just one of the first steps in my musical career. I see a lot of copycatting and hear a lot of music that just sounds like it has been done before, so all I can do is try to be as true to myself as I can be as far as music producing; having said that, there are so many producers right now who have a really unique sound and just keep it real (shout out to my Left of Field peeps). Although I have been writing music for years, and more recently turning to more expressive pieces, I have never had the opportunity to put so many ideas and themes into one piece of work, until now. The main idea behind this EP was based around my own personal reflections on things that are currently most prominent in my mind. Aside from the piece ‘Purpose’, which I wrote for a different meaning, each track tittle has a specific meaning to myself to do with my past experiences or current thoughts/feelings. The track ‘Purpose’, however, was written and named specifically for the cause that this EP is going towards, which is suicide awareness and prevention. I believe that no matter what, no matter how useless someone is feeling, everyone always has a purpose for being here. Whether you discover it now, tomorrow, or in 5 years, you always have one. To me the song portrays this by starting out slow and then having a sudden rise during the later stages of it. LIFEPEN is focused more so on raising awareness for this unheard of and underestimated problem. The money that is raised will go to help further the outreach and capabilities of various support organizations. However this is all depending on the amount of support we receive for this project, which is why we want to make sure awareness and giving people a realization for the differences they can make is important to us. Getting artists connected and involved in collaboration with one another has brought us a tonne of extremely enjoyable and wondrous musical experiences. Left of Field and Urlfuture wanted to combine the ideas of connecting artists from all over the world and to raise awareness for such an important yet silenced issue. When we relate the pen and suicide we would tend to think a suicide note, but since it’s a matter of perspective we can easily have that flipped. 23 artists from all across the globe will be taking part in a collaborative project that will involve contributing one song from each of them to be put inside a special USB pen that will contain every single one of these songs along with much more exclusive content you won’t be able to get anywhere else. 45% of the money that we receive from everyone who purchases a pen or chooses to contribute to this cause will go straight to various suicide prevention charities and to organizations that helps in the cause of repairing mental health and improving quality in life. Each song uses the feeling of the original song as a starting point to go into strange new emotional territory. It is also shown through the mood and tone of each song in context to the previous and the next. As an artist myself I have also found comfort and solidarity in these certain songs that for whatever reason i chose to never delete or take down. A good portion of these songs have already been up for some time, each one from a different period of my life. What seems strange to me is that most of these songs in context of the album go from youngest to oldest, when this is meant to represent a linear story of progression as an artist.
