Distorted basslines and twisted melody embody the vibe of Cryptex’s new “Isolated Incidents” EP, due out October 11th on Gravitas Recording. Los Angeles resident Tyler Chase, better known through his midtempo bass driven project Cryptex, is hastily achieving notoriety within the scene through his popular re-glitches of artists such The Glitch Mob, Justice, Daft Punk and more. His debut EP seeks to solidify him among the names of notable glitch hoppers today.
Upon first listen, the seven track EP pulls you into a vortex of mangled, beefy beats. Lasers shoot from unknown sources, striking synapses as bent bleeps scatter across booming low end. Half dancefloor crush and half headphone recline, Isolated Incidents will not leave you wanting. Big reese stabs and hip hop rhythms show a range of divergent influences, culminating perfectly throughout the release.
The accompanying free download, aptly titled “The Glitch Anthem”, displays Crptex’s masterful mashup finesse, effortlessly cutting between Skrillex, Drake, The Glitch Mob and Kraddy, all the while sprinkled with original Cryptex harmonic work.

Fresh from the electronic hotbed of Colorado comes “The Center of Gravity” on Gravitas Recordings, the debut EP from bass heavy producer The Digital Connection. Right out of the gate, genre lines blur as this six track EP embraces considerable influence from dubstep and glitch hop without ceding exclusivity to either. Crisp and textured sound design contrasts the stirring melodic progressions throughout each track’s diverse arrangement, keeping the listener fascinated and eagerly anticipating every twist and turn.
Spawned from dreams of broken toy sounds, “Unusual Entities” starts the release off with a healthy dose of midtempo bounce. The funky title track shares a similarly upbeat rhythm, effortlessly blending relaxed chords into bubbling bass noises as the song progresses. Both “An Imbalance” and “On A Brighter Note” focus on rolling 808s and pitch-bent synth work, manifesting injections of psychedelia into the 140bpm environment.
“Unusual Entities” gets a heavy re-glitch from Gravitas’ own Cryptex, taking a slightly more aggressive approach without losing structural integrity. Headtron’s emissary Goldrush brings up the rear with a seductive take of “On a Brighter Note”, focusing more on the lush intricacies of the original while keeping the bassline more restrained and tasteful.
As a free gift, The Digital Connection has concocted an anthem-esque remix of Flight Facilities’ nostalgic track, “Crave You”. The rework expands on the original’s innate feel good qualities while adapting it for a dancefloor setting.

“The Honey Badger EP”, the debut release from Texas native Metranohm, is the perfect summer soundtrack for upbeat bass lovers. While honey badger might not care, Metranohm’s attention to detail shines through all four tracks, highlighting his influences from breaks, techno, and drum’n bass – all repackaged to fit a modern dubstep taste and appeal. Although most of the EP resides in the 140bpm range, “Break It Down” stands apart as a heavy helping of midtempo glitch hop. The Summertime EP is the first collaboration between Austin, TX-based electro lounge duo Scarbrough & Benner. Following a chance meeting at SXSW 2011, DJ/Producer Jake Scarbrough and Singer/Songwriter Anita Benner, set out to creatively blend her inspired and sophisticated pop vocal style with his electronica production skills. Their downtempo debut fuses elements of Electronica with Jazz, Hip Hop, a dash of Disco, and a dollop of Dub for a sound that’s at once reminiscent of Thievery Corporation, Little Dragon, and Yuna.
The release is highlighted by a collaboration with the Boom Sumting! Sound System for the opening track “Come Out and Play”, which is also featured on the Gravitas Recordings release Dubble Trubble. That is followed by the Little Dragon inspired “Lidocaine”. Rounding out the release are the sultry summer evening anthem “Summertime” along with the retro electro disco “Hold On”, and the jazzy, downtempo track the “Good Stuff” which has been featured on the CW show “The Ringer”.

Hailing from the "live music capital of the world", Austin TX, audio/visual composer Pharo delivers his debut "Native Range" EP on Gravitas Recordings. Aside from producing and DJing bass music, Pharo is also well known as an adept live painter and visionary artist, using diverse mediums ranging from canvas to custom hats and clothing.
Washing in with waves of texture, Native Range starts things off proper with the hard hitting title track. Pacman Grind drops in next with a robust combination of funky leads and tangible grit, persuading the listener to head-bounce in approval. The EP then changes direction with Dub Deals, making way for more shuffling drum patterns laid across thick sub bass, followed closely by Kerplunk's swampy beats and wildly modulating synth tracks. Psymbionic brings a hip hop flavored remix to Native Range, trading in some of the original's fervor for layered brass and big chords. The record closes out with a hot and heavy take on Pacman Grind from Omega, who manages to perfectly balance threatening basslines with tasteful interludes.

DEF CON - one of the worlds largest and longest running hacking conferences, celebrates its 20th year with an energetic and appropriately themed compilation. Founder and head of the conference, Jeff Moss (also known as Dark Tangent), tasked DEF-CON "goon" and Muti Music artist Great Scott with cherry picking the talent filled track selections; attentively acknowledging that music is our fuel. While Maine is quite famous for many things, fostering musicians is not often at the top of the list. However, Of The Trees seeks to change that notion with his debut "Threshold" EP which serves up a wonderfully crisp exploration of modern melodic bass music. Ranging in speeds from dubstep to glitch hop, this four track release integrates spacious chords with vast synth stabs and a heavy dose of 808 percussion.
The aptly named title track blasts thing off with a buoyant tone as bubbly progressions give way to uplifting yet funky keyboard riffs. "First Flight" draws heavy influence from prevalent trap rhythms, but detours in unconventional directions with it's resonant saw wave leads.
Seamlessly switching between lighthearded arpeggios and vivacious basslines, "Tion Cluster" uses vividly filtered thumps and wobbles to drive it's groove. "Radiogenic" hits a more upbeat tempo, focusing on stuttering vocal cuts and 8-bit bloops to get your feet moving.

Boston based audio/visual duo Zebbler Encanti Experience, consisting of Ben 'Encanti' Cantil and Peter 'Zebbler' Berdovsky, serve up their debut LP entitled "Psychic Projections" on Gravitas Recordings. Twelve tracks push the idea of multi-genre to the truest form of the word, as the pair tackle both sides of the spectrum from face melting dubstep and moombahton to thought-provoking downtempo and melodic hip hop. A grip of talented producers provide attentive remixes; Willy Whompa drives 'Quezalcoatl' in a tension-filled trap direction, while both Ishe and Woulg opt for more experimental versions.
While Encanti takes the lead in musical realms, Zebbler sits as master of all things visual. ZEE have seen a considerable amount of road time in 2011 and 2012, serving as integral members of multiple tour teams. The architect behind the projection mapped projects Shpongletron and EOTOtron, Zebbler acted as VJ for well over 100 international shows for both groups. In addition to ZEE performing as direct touring support for EOTO in venues throughout the country, Berklee College of Music graduate Encanti boasts as a member of the Shpongle live USA ensemble.

"Calm Before The Storm" gives the album a perfect introduction, effortlessly morphing between haunting keys and distorted, textured leads. Pulling an eerie vocal sample from Donnie Darko, "The Hourglass" picks up the pace with a slithering, stuttering sentiment. Tiny clicks and sharp piano depict "The Failsafe", a beauteous track where pitch bent wobbles take the limelight. Reminiscent of many early dubstep greats, "Together In The End" shows a techno influence with it's shuffled high hats and focus on the synth work instead of the midrange bass. "The Aftermath" sums up the album, transmuting it's hip hop beat suddenly into a driving drum'n bass affair, then finally culminating on a twisted, bit crushed lick.

It's been nearly two years since his last solo release, but Los Angeles native Chris Brown reveals that this time has been spent hard at work. These six individual gems, ranging from the main room to the bedroom, are sure to stand apart in any bass music lover's collection.
A barrage of psychotropic and integral melody distinguishes both "Fluid Dynamics" and "Space Dust", with large detuned leads bringing grit to what might otherwise be whimsical tunes. "Trendy" shows Chris' interpretation of the recent trap movement - but instead of reproducing the same exhausted sound palette, this intrepid producer merges his unique synthesis construction with heavy 808s to create an entirely fresh offering. Both emotionally stirring and provocative, "My Heart Is Love" is the second LP from East-Coast collaborative brainchild Aligning Minds. The nine track album, due for release January 29th via Gravitas Recordings, is a finely tuned venture evoking imagery of an ethereal future-city. While no two tracks sound the same, Aligning Minds does a beautiful job stitching together this sundry collection of songs seamlessly and in an engaging way. Perfectly blended sections of classic electro and intricate breaks merge with vaporous psychedelic synth-scapes, causing genre lines to blur as the countless influences wash through.
Although the album starts off moody with the ambient "Streaming Live", things quickly shift gears when "Ether Perfect" ushers in a heavy dose of modulating sub. Meticulous sound design marks the melancholy title track, but the tension repeatedly resolves with each new tier the piece traverses. "A Noble Truth" and "In The Wake of Forever" both opt for more of a hip hop pace, trading agile shuffles for an abiding percussive stroke. The textured saw-waves that make up the bassline in "Bright Flames" add to an overall nebulous vibe, later cemented with haunting, stuttering strings. "Weeping Willow" alters the progression near the close with a bold 2-step beat, accentuated by a multiplex of blips and clicks.

Frozen In Time is the debut release from 16 year old Colorado native Lidsky, and in spite of the title, the EP moves across all spectrums of music history effortlessly. Vintage samples find themselves to be perfectly at home alongside retro 80's synthesis and smooth vocal chops ripped straight out of 90's boom-bap rap. Every track on the EP has something a little different to offer, and reveals a small part of Lidsky's eclectic musical interests. The opener, "Feeling Tha Blues" flips a Muddy Waters sample into a huge, incredibly danceable booty-shaker of a track. Likewise, tribute gets paid to jazz legend Ornette Coleman in "To See The Light" in a way that not only reflects Lidsky's love for Coleman, but also his philosophies on music as a whole. “Voices Heard”, the second Gravitas-aimed offering by Hungarian wizard-class producer AMB, follows closely in the footsteps of the former “Going Down” EP delivered last year. Presented like the soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic romance film, the eerie, haunting motif that appears throughout nags at you like an itch you can’t quite reach. An itch that happens time and again, until you’re at long last sated upon reaching the final moments of the journey.
The captivating, pitched vocals on “By Myself” tend to become trapped in your head, steeped alongside sultry guitar and distant, abstract chords. “Barrel of Belief” pulls abundant influence from the quintessential era of breaks and combines it with dark, distorted melodics. The blippy, tech-heavy stylings of “Slow Down” secure it as the most energetic of the five track collection, closely followed by “Can Hear Your Voice” resolving every bit of built up tension with its smooth groove.

French producer Chloe Herry, better known by her stage name CloZee, has spent the better part of the last year on tour between North America and Europe. “Revolution”, her latest pay-what-you-want offering on the Gravitas Music imprint, could be seen as a reflection of those journeys. In some moments, the listener may find themselves deep in a lush forest surrounded by towering trees. Just the next minute, the surroundings morph into an underground venue among sweaty bodies all pulsating to the same beat. The true beauty of CloZee’s music can be found in this subdued yet intricate sophistication; the juxtaposition of elegance and detail create subtle contrast which can be seen swirling together upon observation of any of these five songs.
Her graceful entrance begins with “Anticlimax”, a well named tune that focuses more on the evolving groove and tender melodies than any pronounced drop. The title track cleverly utilizes glitchy percussion to offset the orchestral and middle eastern harmonies. “Sankar’s Lake” gets the body moving with a catchy rhythm and flow, intelligently using bass to keep the pace progressing. Resolving on a haunting tone, “The Path To Heaven” again places focus on the delicate yet impactful drum work, culminating in a perfect conclusion for the album.

Portland, Maine based group Gater comes correct with their jazzy, livetronica EP “Neoterik”. Steeped in contemporary sound design and clever melody, the latest release from Russia’s Mindex is quite a funky one. “The Flavor” lives up to it’s name, with tasty bass comprising the main course seasoned with groovy hip-hop influenced drum work. “Chasing The Midnight Sky” comes as the first full length album from The Digital Connection in over two years. The young producer leans toward downtempo inspirations for the 10 track collection, with distinct nods to greats such as Tipper, Bonobo, and Telefon Tel Aviv. That’s not to say he’s moved away from bass-centered compositions: many of his varied influences shine brightly throughout. Pulling from a vast collection of self-made field recordings, the Colorado native time and again constructs mystical ambiance filled with surreptitious audile treasures. As per the expected, the LP arrives as a free/pay-what-you-want release via Gravitas Music.
Each track is in itself a different journey. Upbeat yet melancholy, “When I Miss You” is a beautiful illustration of such a common desire. “Deeper” takes the listener through underwater temples from a lost civilization. Tasteful acoustic guitar takes primary focus in the highly atmospheric “Brave Moon”. Launching with a staggered, lurching beat, “If Only You Knew” intelligently uses an odd time signature to spice up the release. “Inevitable Transition” resolves the album with a highly psychedelic odyssey, successfully clearing the palette for whatever may come next.

The long awaited treasure is finally within sight. You’re deep within a damp cavern, the smell of stale air invading your lungs with each passing breath. Many secrets are held inside this ancient place, but you finally have hands on what you came for. You run your fingers across each facet of the newfound prize which now sits safely hidden within your coat. Now for an exit. Without warning, the innocuous rock planted firmly beneath your feet morphs to the worn concrete of a city street. Odd, you think. Teleportation wasn’t an expectation of the trip. Even in the pitch black night, you can make out a figure in the distance. Shadowy yet bright to your vision. He begins to speak as he approaches, but his language isn’t discernible. Blips, crackles, and mutant gyrations. So foreign, but somehow you recognize a pattern. A message. “Wake up,” it says.
This is only one telling of “Paper Tales”, an EP from master of audio Fine Cut Bodies. Swirling, meticulous sound design is the focus of many of his tracks. After a busy year split between touring and teaching at Berklee School of Music in Valenica, audio-visual duo Zebbler Encanti Experience return to Gravitas Music with the full length album “Inner G”. Laced with flavors of trap, psytrance, glitch-hop, and dubstep, the release is a shape-shifting tapestry of precision synthesis that penetrates the mind while it permeates the body. The pair’s self-coined mutant genres “PsyTrap” and “NeuroTwerk” are well represented across 7 tracks, with high-energy bass music meeting detailed psychedelic sound design.
An international lineup of musicians and producer collaborations throughout provides an uncommon perspective; sitting atop an organic emotional foundation at it's core, the album represents a convergence of many cultures and musical dialects. On tour in 2016, Inner G comes to life when ZEE lights up The ZEEggurat: a 20-foot wide projection-mapped stage setup. Each track is performed synchronized to a cascade of mind-bending immersive visuals, providing a unique encounter during each show.
