Past guests have included Anthony Rother, Detroit In Effect, Dave Clarke, The Egyptian Lover, Exzakt, Seldom Seen, ADJ, Juan Atkins and many many more. What is Electro? Authentic Electro is a long established form of electronic music which over the years has become a broad and diverse spectrum of styles and sounds. In the majority of cases the current generation of electro artists trace their musical roots back to the likes of Kraftwerk, Drexciya, Afrika Bambaataa, The Egyptian Lover and Dynamix II. Many are influenced by other musical types too - jazz, hip hop, techno, film scores and more. For Bass Agenda and its listeners, it is the most exciting genre of music there is - and vastly under appreciated in most countries. Through the radio show and label Bass Agenda Recordings seeks to raise the profile of Electro artists and connect people with the past, present and future of the genre. The T-Series (T is for Techno) kicks off hard with ‘Scaring Horses’ by UK artist and DJ The Subdermic. 5 tracks of no-nonsense straight up Techno that pays attention to all the elements that fill a floor and get a crowd moving as one unified, pumped, sweating mass. Just experience a few seconds of the acid hook, Goliath kick drum and swing of the Acid House version of ‘Scaring the Horses’ to learn that this is the real deal made by someone not locked away in their bedroom making Techno but rather an artist applying years of learning what works in the clubs the hard way – putting out records since 2001 and DJ’ing at the front, pulling no punches. The original version of ‘Scaring the Horses’ put a rocket under Dave Clarke’s White Noise episode 549 not so long ago and got early support from Claude Young. Setrus - Bi Xor (4:52) London based Setrus is the latest newcomer to the Bass Agenda Presents series of EPs - a series designed to reveal new talent, debuts of new projects by existing artists, and to remind you that the underground you read about has a deeper underground layer of its own too. Setrus makes his debut with 'Cellex Lobe', four tracks of well crafted Electro that mainly follow the dark, cold, machine music line in the genre's family tree. The EP brings twisted synth lines, tight mechanical rhythms, glitchy moments, and a healthy dose of atmospheric soup - in which all these components float. The fourth track 'Bi Xor' takes the same elements but adds incredible evocative tones - proving the soul of a machine can be found with the right tools. This last track in particular prompts an emotional response, and it is appropriate that it does so, as this music, and Setrus' passion for music, is in large part down to the work of the late Nacho Martin, an amazing individual who set up the Electric Sweat nights with Joe Hart (Body Hammer) in warehouses around South East London. His 'House of the Python' EP, released in January, saw him in his more contemplative mode, working with melody, lower BPMs for the most part, and exploring less visited parts of his sound palette. 11 months later we see Franck Collin bringing four tracks at higher BPM, more dance-floor friendly in flavour, and creating machine grooves with a tone and vibe that only he can. As always this is him - no one else sounds like this. Melody and musicality still have a place here - the title track itself features a brilliant dramatic synth theme, building to a crescendo whilst a trademark Fleck ESC driving groove sits underneath.
