Crop Circles is a name which carries the weight of six true forefathers of the genre. Dating back a decade, this project which has been whispered about to the day is composed of Etnica, Pleiadians, and Lotus Omega. Names which have shaken the globe and whose works helped forge a new way of music worked together since 1996. Their debut album, Tetrahedron, is like a newly recovered treasure chest of dance-floor movers from times past, is composed entirely of tracks once thought lost, yet are now found, collecting dust on DATs and busted hard drives, and brought once again to life through cutting-edge remastering techniques. DAT Records, an aptly named label for this release, have dug through the annals of analog and digital archives to bring the world the power and respect that tracks of the scope and talent such as these richly deserve. Eight massive, well-produced tracks from six of the truest masters and pioneers of the Goa sound all working together to produce music that still to this time is ahead of its day, yet now available to people worldwide to appreciate the energy that these sounds represent. Blue Planet Corporation - Crystal (8:47) In the mid 80's, Gabriel Masurel was a drummer in various bands of alternative/indie pop/rock music. A fan of electronic sounds, he got his first synthesizers as the techno acid-house movement was arriving into France and he started producing synthesized music. Gabriel Masurel and Christophe Lebras, under the name "Blue Planet Corporation", produced with help of Sébastien Masurel the first 12' Overbloody Flood EP in 1993. In 1995, after several releases for the French label 'POF Music', they were invited by the English label 'Flying Rhino' to produce an album. Gabriel Masurel wrote the album on his own, with some collaboration on various tracks. The Blue Planet album was released in 1999 and was a huge success, and is still praised as one of the fundamentals in every Goa Trance collection. Gabriel Masurel spent two years afterwards touring as a live act and DJing all over the world, especially in the USA, Japan and Europe. Another vinyl EP was released in 2002: Digital Forward EP. It was the last production of Blue Planet Corporation for 'Flying Rhino'. Blue Planet Corporation has from then on produced several tracks and remixes for French and international labels: some notable tracks were the two remixes for the French pop star MylA ne Farmer, which won him a big reputation in the world of progressive house and were two huge hits. Masurel's passion for music leads him to work today on many projects and towards various musical orientations with pop/rock and electronic musicians, making him a complete musician. There is great anticipation for this album as confirmed on forums and mailing lists all over the world. People are waiting impatiently for this compilation to be released. So prepare to fly again in 2009 with the marvelous music of Gabriel Masurel. This album contains a selection of the best tracks he composed in a decade and after a wise sound enhancement, courtesy of Tim Shuldt, DAT is proud to unleash the power of the music of Crossing Mind. Let him take you to a journey, progressing from a lovely opener to the apex of the album and then back. There are some outstanding pieces that can be easily defined as classics, such as Magnesia, Hypnotropic, Psy Crise to name a few. Each of the tracks is a hit, there are no fillers here. The closing track is a beautiful mid-tempo trance with a fantastic melody, just perfect to be played throughout the summer at these lovely sunset parties. Then we move to the amazing original mix of Space Tribe's The Great Spirit, an epic and spiritual track that is as powerful as it is beautiful. Things start to move deeper with the brooding and driving desk mix of the brilliant Doof track We Are Free. Now that our gears are oiled and running, we can unleash the powerful energy of Slinky Wizard with the original first mix of Funkus Munkus that will get you grooving. We finally reach the apex with an extended mix of Green Nuns of the Revolution's monster tune Ring Of Fire. Prepare to hurtle through the cosmos, Space Cadets, because you *cannot* imagine how energizing and mind-blowing this track is - we were speechless when we heard it and are still on Cloud 9. Then, even if you think it's not possible, we go even higher with this super-duper-hyperbolic live mix of Total Eclipse's Free Lemonade from a 1995 Paris performance. Please remember to be more careful from whom you accept free lemonade - there is no need for lemonade, as this track is enough for a magical trip ! And then we stabilize in hyperspace with the magnificent long, haunting original mix of Etnica's Full On, which appears for the first time ever fully unmixed on CD. Now as we prepare to come back to Earth, we present you the groovy, beautifully refreshing, and extremely rare mix of Voyager 2 by Prana. We then close this splendid compilation with the spiritual and mystical downtempo kaleidoscope mix of Nervasystem's Whirling Dervish, a track that we loved the minute we heard it first. To prepare this compilation was a long and complex process of detective work and discussion. I want to thank Mark Ainley for his help and dedication in this. This album was conceived and produced back in the 90s, with the help of many producers and friends. It was never properly released and 100 copies only were ever produced. However, the tracks released back then, were different as the Artist explains, as he worked on the tracks for a long time and had different mixes for each track. Thus the first copies burned and sold around had earlier versions of the tracks, and as time passed by he changed the mixes contained on that scarcely available release. So it is for the first time that Virtuart gathered all the best mixes ever done for these tracks and authorized their official release. The second part of the album contains rare and unreleased tracks judiciously collected for this release. A Virtuart & Friends Volume 2 did exist but it was just given away to a bunch of friends, and never released or sold anywhere. A few tracks were changed of the original tracklist, as they were licensed and released during the years but DAT Records tried to keep it as faithful as possible to the original vision of Virtuart. The music was splendidly mastered by Jaro @ Analog Dimensions, following direct rules on limiting compression, no loudness, and trying to keep the sound as organic and oldschool as possible, still giving it much more clarity, depth and polishing all the frequencies for your aural enjoyment. Marvelous artwork accompany the release, courtesy of genius Miro Moric, who re-interpreted the original idea of Olivier, giving us a shining colored modern version of it. A terrific release that will rock the dance floors around the world for many years to come. It is just thanks to in-depth research that they could be located and then brought back to life with fresh mastering. As usual, the release comes with a fabulous 8-page booklet with stories and trivia about all of these spectacular tracks. For this incredible occasion we have also recovered some long sold-out special coloured jewel cases, so this release will stand out as something unique in your collection. EDIT on postponed release date: At DAT Records we are very excited about our upcoming compilation Analog Visions! On Draeke’s trip to Poland in October 2018, he visited some CD pressing plants and we were all thrilled to hear that one plant said they could create CDs well over the traditional 80 minutes’ duration. Because this VA release features some very long tracks, this option would give us the opportunity to fill the CD beyond the usual capacity and offer more music to our fans. We therefore created a compilation that totalled 86 minutes and enthusiastically sent it off for pressing. We heard back a while later that the plant was in fact not able to produce what they had promised and could not successfully create a CD of this length despite numerous attempts. We inquired at two other pressing plants we had used before, plus another, but none of them were able to produce a disc of this timing despite their stated belief that they could. One German plant had produced a CD of 87 minutes but because a number of customers’ players had issues playing it, they advised us not to produce a CD of comparable duration. We have found what we believe is the best opportunity to make all of the promised music available to our fans: we have removed one track from the printed CD that will be made digitally available to all who buy the disc, and we will also include that track on the upcoming Mind Rewind Volume 4 compilation so that a hard copy of this rarity will be available on CD. We extend our deepest gratitude to Tetrahedron for their understanding of the track listing shift (they are in fact delighted to be featured on Mind Rewind) - we are glad that this rare project’s music will be able to reach more listeners in both digital and physical formats. How it ended up there, it's a fabulous tale. Read it here... The year is 1991 and the season in Goa is going to be a blast. All the DJs are exchanging tracks for the upcoming parties, but there is a track, THE track, that everyone wants to have and to play. A hypnotic piece that is “You Never Know”. Read the story from the Artist: “There was a time when we suddenly appeared at the Goa scene with You Never Know, which was one of the first tracks we made after forming the band. The track ended up in Goa, without any appearance from either me or my partner because at that time I knew a French guy in Denmark, Besugh, who was totally into the Goa scene at that time, constantly walking around with his DAT recorder, collecting tracks from all over as well as DJing around the Aarhus scene. Every year he went to Goa for the winter playing at venues; he had his second home down there. I played the track for him once and he asked for a copy. When I saw him the next time, after he had been in Goa for the winter, he was completely crazy, screaming that "You Never Know" that year was the biggest hit in Goa. I know that Frank from Koxbox mentioned it to me as well. Besugh was the "main man" that year at the beaches, since he was the one who had the only copy of the track. Since you have been so determined for such a long time, to look up about who was behind it, me and my partner will allow you and DAT records to license the track. We are both happy that our track had, and obviously still has, an impact. It personally reminds me about the time when I was young and eager to contribute to the electronic music scene. This all happened a few years before we became famous musicians. Thanks again for bringing this memory up.” The track is mystical and there are people who have been looking for this tune for so many years on every techno and trance record they could find from, yet it eluded everyone because it has never been released before. We are so proud to be able to offer this fantastic track that was lost on an almost unreadable CD-r, the sole surviving copy, together with three other bombs from the same demo, bringing back that original vibe, from the sunny beaches of Goa teleported directly to modern times, to preserve this music for eternity. What originally started as a one-off project turned into a series with the release of Mind Rewind 2 in 2013. The label name is a tribute to the "DAT Mafia" of the 1990s when DJs and collectors were copying, trading and sharing unreleased tracks on DAT tapes, often without the artist's or label's approval. Tracks released in this series are now officially licensed from the artists. After the release of Mind Rewind 2 most of the original contributing members were excluded from the project and replaced by a small team of "decision-makers" in order to speed up the production process. The revenue generated by the sales of each compilation is used for funding the next volume in the series, the rest is being donated to charity organizations to help kids in Goa, India. DAT Mafia Recordings was created to be able to have this compilation that features top tracks from these formative years of the psychedelic trance scene to be released properly and is a sub-label of DAT Records. On the compilation there are three vinyl-only releases here, two of them featuring Simon Posford, with the rest having never been released in any format. Among the gems are three tracks featuring Psychaos’ Joti Sidhu, two of them rare collaborations (one with Ofer, the other with Etnica); a different mix of Doof’s classic Mars Needs Women; a collaboration between Graham Wood of The Infinity Project and Serge Souque of Total Eclipse; and an unissued edit of Kwo-Ne-She by The Green Nuns of the Revolution that member Dick Trevor prefers to the released version. The other brilliant artists featured on the compilation include Etnica, Total Eclipse, Electric Universe, Dimension 5, Deflo, Zerotonine, Blue Planet Corporation, Slinky Nuns, The Muses Rapt, Uni-vers Concept, Infinite Zen, Mushroomman, and Aural Planet.

Much of the music played at parties in the early days circulated on digital audio tape and would not be released, only being heard at Goa-style events.
